Pleasant ambience and a nice 3-piece jazz trio welcomed us to the Dorrance. A short wait at the bar with bloody marys helped mellowed us further. After being seated and having a prosecco, we ordered the food. Then the wait began and continued and continued ... Unfortunately, the wait was not fruitful. The food was horrible, almost inedible. It was so overcooked. Why the long wait and overcooked food? Clearly a disconnect between kitchen and servers. Overpriced too.
Old-style elegant interior with an updated menu. Our food-snob/pescatarian/college-age daughter was captivated.
This was our second year attending the Easter Brunch. The food is phenomenal, the atmosphere is upbeat yet quiet enough for a conversation, and the service is great. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
Beautiful ambiance (the coffered ceiling; the colors, reminded me of elegant restaurants in Moscow). Impeccable service. (my waitress turned the shrimp risotto plate just so so the shrimp faced me on delivery; hand poured soup). There is a tavern menu for younger kids who live on mac and cheese and burgers, though the mac n cheese is hefty: its ziti with lobster. Youll take some home for sure. Great for pre-PPAC, impress any date, married couples getting out; after work bar was full for happy hour and the barman knows how to shake a shaker. Very classy. I loved it. A great find.
Beautiful restaurant, great food and service was fantastic! First time there but not our last.
Very nice meal in a very smart but relaxed atmosphere, the staff were attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely be back there again.
Food was excellent and loved the atmosphere...lively and fun. Reminded me of a New York City restaurant in SOHO. Live music after dinner was awesome. But PLEASE address your bathroom situation. You have a beautiful venue but the bathrooms are small and were not very well kept and due to confusion about the bathroom signage men and women were using the same bathroom. Not cool in an upscale restaurant.
Food was tasty, and the single bites between courses were great. Drinks were ok, interesting flavor combinations, but you have to have an open mind. Overall the place was loud. Table was in the middle and was hard to have a conversation . If the lounge was open maybe would have stayed and hung out, but our area wasn't super comfortable. There was no music playing, so just a din of the crowd in the restaurant.
Waitstaff was attentive and friendly.
Good food..great service..spacious..clean.Great for pre theater.
The food was so great I enjoyed it
Great service, good food and excellent wine list. Beautiful historic setting as well.
A little bit noisy, but is was a Saturday night. Acoustics are a bit of a problem.
Our service was tremendous and the food was great! The atmosphere is historic and breathtaking!
The food service and drinks were all amazing!! I will come back asap! Look forward to coming for live jazz soob
Excellent food and fun cocktails. Stephanie was our waitress and she was great--very humorous and ever-accomodating. Can't wait to go back
The food was outstanding and we could not have asked for a better waiter. Great dinner and some equally great jazz.
My birthday dinner with 11 friends was simply amazing here at The Dorrance. We were seated in a private room and felt special from the moment we walked in! We all raved about the food and our waiter was incredible! The extra bites and touches throughout the meal were much appreciated! Thank you for making my night so special!
I went to The Dorrance during restaurant week for my anniversary. My darling and I loved our experience. From the moment we walked into the gorgeous interior and were seated immediately, we were smiling. One aspect I especially liked was the fact that our table was set apart from others. It was out of earshot of other diners. So often, even at lovely restaurants, the tables are so close you can hear others conversations and vice versa.
Our waitress was gracious, informative and provided great service without being a bother. The food was delicious and of course it helped that it was restaurant week as far as the value.
I loved hearing about the history and went home and looked up The Union Trust Bank, hoping to see the original interior.
I would highly recommend The Dorrance to my friends and family.
We had a very nice evening at The Dorrance. It seemed a little less lively than I would have expected for a Friday night but it was still very nice. Our dinners were good but I have to say that the best part of the evening was the service. Brian was fantastic and made for a very wonderful experience.
We had an absolutely wonderful dinner on Thursday night. The drinks were awesome and the food was superb. The one thing that can make or break a dining experience besides food is service, and Stephanie was phenomenal! She knew what drinks would appeal to our tastes, and she was consistently there when we needed her. We would highly recommend this restaurant and if you want it to be perfect, ask for Stephanie.
Lovely dinner here during a quick trip up. Visited during restaurant week so we got to order from the special menu or main. Food was worth the trip! Atmosphere is beautiful with lots of history. Don't be fooled by the grand appearance when you get dressed! Clean attire works
This was our first time at the Dorrance and what a pleasant surprise it was! From the fabulous cocktail menu to dessert...everything was simply perfect! We dined in the back--where we ended up being alone, but it was perfect as it was later and the bar area was getting busy. The hostess also thought to ask our preference for quiet or being in the center of it all...which was so very important! Not too many think to do that and it really made the difference for us! Fabulous food and even better service!
Fantastic time!!! We would go back, the live music was awesome
Had a wonderful meal at The Dorrance when in town for a college tour. Beautiful decor, friendly staff, great service, and the food (and craft cocktail!) was delicious. I had the Lobster Pappardelle, which was pretty much perfect. The sticky toffee pudding was also outstanding. Highly recommend, great for special occasions!
Food and Service was excellent, as well as decor. A bit noisy, but there was a private event on other side of dining room that was likely to blame.
Prices were as expected, but portions could have been a bit bigger. Or maybe I was extra hungry that night.
The almost "dairy-less" lobster bisque was much appreciated and enjoyed.
More vegetarian option would be great too.
Food was good, not excellent. Nice dining room area but we were placed in side room not part the main dining room so it lessened the New Year's Eve experience. Overall very nice decor.
New Year's Eve Dinner. Our server was AWESOME, the food was great and they put us in the back in the private area so we were away from all the noise and craziness of the party guests! Great experience and perfect way to end 2016!
Love the restaurant, incredible beautiful location, historical, very high ceilings, a lot of ornaments in the walls, like dinning in a beautiful European palace, service was excellent,
Food was very good and were giving a corner table for 4 that was beautiful, we could enjoy the
Amazing evening. Food was spectacular. We had a large party and the restaurant was very accommodating. Our server was very attentive and helped my children find a good meal that was not on the menu. Dessert was tremendous. The building is a classic. Huge, stained glass windows are amazing. Can't wait to go back.
I took six people from my office to the Dorance for a holiday gathering. The atmosphere was very nice, although a little loud when the band started. The entertainment was outstanding but it would have been nice to know the restaurant was going to get loud part way through the evening.
The food was fair to good but did not meet our expectations, although our deserts were absolutely delicious. Our waiter was outstanding, when he was available. Unfortunately he must have been overbooked because we found ourselves without service for most of the meal. At one point he stated to one of my guests, "You are the most important person right now. I want to make you happy." When he walked away comments were made at the table because it appeared that none of us were high on his priority list that night. For example, at one point we waited approximately 20 minutes to order another glass of wine.
The hostess appeared agitated when we entered. She was on the phone and when she completed her call I provided her with our reservation name and that all of us had arrived. Her response was, "Your table is ready." She might have considered a greeting such as, "Welcome", or "Good evening and welcome to the Dorance." Instead she walked us to our table, placed the menus before us and then walked away.
One of the people in my party, who had arrived before the rest of us, sat at the bar for a drink and found the bar tender to be dismissive and somewhat rude, when he informed my guest that he did not have a certain type of Vodka.
As a frequent patron of Rhode Island restaurants, usually dining out two to three times per week, I found the Dorance to be mediocre, which certainly did not meet our expectations while dining in such a beautiful atmosphere.
the building is very historic early 1900's this is a must see also the food and service are both excellent cant wait to go back again when i visit providence
The waiter was excellent. Spent at half an hour going through their extensive wine list. Good was wonderfully done
As always a great meal at a great place. The waiters and bartenders were fantastic. The house cocktails are delicious. The staff doesn't rush you and really seem to know what they are serving you. We had no room for dessert! My wife and I plan on returning again soon with friends.
We just had a wonderful experience at The Dorrance this past weekend. I believe our waiters name was Jim. He seemed to be under a lot of stress but was so unbelievably attentive to us and knowledgable about every item on the menu. We were in later in the night and the crowed was vivid. Looking forward to dining here again :)
The food, service and atmosphere of the Dorrance was excellent.
The service was wonderful. Our waiter was very good. The menu didn't offer a lot of choices. What we had was good but not great. The restaurant has a nice classic ambiance. There was a happening bar scene that made the restaurant noisy. We were there for our anniversary and it was a good choice. We were delighted by the complementary prosecco our waiter brought us for a toast. Our waiter was the best.
Great food and great wine list. Our evening was made even more enjoyable due to the wonderful service and great wine recommendations that we received from our server, Stephanie.
We enjoyed a wonderful anniversary dinner at the Dorrance a few days before Thanksgiving. The historic bank is a perfect modern restaurant. The drinks are so unique and tasty as all the syrups are made in-house and not from a mix, this really makes a difference in the flavors. The portions are perfect which allowed us to enjoy a full meal and not feel overstuffed. The entrées were cooked to perfection, the shrimp with risotto was very refreshing with a slight citrus flavor and the sirloin was melt in your mouth tender. We of course indulged in dessert just to sample the homemade creations, we were not disappointed with our choices which included the fresh pumpkin ice cream.
Our server was Stephanie who was such a professional! She was able to help with our perfect choices and made our evening even more special. I have told everyone who would listen to come and try this restaurant - you will not be disappointed.
Outstanding! GreCat Atmosphere! Great Service! Great cocktails options. Could use a bigger/broader menu. We Loved it!
