Absolutely beautiful building. However, we were there to dine not just look.
The food prices were of course reflective of the style and beauty of the building. charging for bread for the table?? Why would there be a charge for bread when four full dinners and four appetizers, cocktails and wine are involved? Ridiculous bill padding.
No salt or pepper were offered and the food was severely unseasoned. ( no I’m not a salt lover)
The Caesar salad was bland and watery. The tornadoes of beef were flavorless. The lobster tortelloni was cold.
The service was fine, and so was the food. I had to laugh when they brought out an "amuse bouche" made of salmon, but I am a vegetarian. Perhaps they should consider that in the future.
The Dorrance is set in a former Federal Resrve bank with the actual bank vault preserved in the back corner. The floor are marble, the interior early 19th century and ornate with big beautiful picture windows over looking Dorrance Street. The food is excellent with award winning cocktails.
The venue is absolutely stunning!!!!! The food was delicious!
Disappointed with lack of lobster in pappardelle dish which was otherwise extremely good.
Lindsay the manager made our celebration dinner special as well as our server ! It's a beautiful restaurant that I recommend for special occasions! From the valet to the server to the runner & up to management everyone was AMAZING! Kudos to the Chef excellent food Thank you !
They charge for bread; suspect that lobster in the pasta dish was frozen. Fried capers in Caesar Salad left bitter aftertaste. Very mediocre overall.
The service was really great...my date and I arrived almost 30 minutes late for our reservation but the hostess was extremely friendly and immediately sat us at an amazing table. Our waiter was also very friendly and knowledgeable when asked to help pick out wine.
Great food, good drinks, excellent dessert. We got oysters, scallops and a filet mignon. All were delicious. We had a martini served very heavy on the vermouth, when we notified the waitress, she quickly had the drink remade. Great service.
Great cocktail bar, good wines by the glass and bottle, service was exceptional and bar scene was excellent. I would go back again so I could spend a little more time and check out other drinks and foods.
Excellent! Felt a little rushed to order dinner from the waiter....he indicated it would be a longer wait to eat if we didn’t order right away. That was really the only negative. Everything else was perfect !
Very slow service and kitchen. We sat at our table at 7pm, we ordered around 7:15pm, we did not get our meals until after 8:40pm. Very disappointed.
Food is good, but the kitchen needs improvement on their delivery of meals.
I don't think the food was worth the price. It was standard fair and not very creative. Our server was attentive. It was too loud to even have a conversation.
The Dorrance probably does the best drinks in Providence. The service is wonderful, the decor is beautiful, and the food is great. Portions might be a bit on the small side. Otherwise, outstanding all around.
Service and food was good. The back of my wife’s booth was broken with a 3” gap. They should repair this soon
Very nice find! The building used to be a bank so it is very spacious and the décor is wonderful. Try the artisan breads....fabulous. Meals are very creative and it was well worth the money. Nice wine list, too.
Excellent as usual. Great special occasion place. We went with a group of 8 and had a nice round table making it easy for conversation. The food and service were impeccable.. We started with oysters and I had the short rib and my husband the shrimp risotto. Both excellent!. Also, although not specifically marked on the menu, plenty of gluten free options and knowledgeable staff. Just ask.
At the end we were given complimentary pink peppercorn macarons with buttercream filling. GLUTEN FREE and to die for!
It is one of our favorite places in the area. Lovely atmosphere, delicious food and great service.
Ambiance was very nice, as the building shows a beautiful interior design. Wait staff was a little lacking as our server was more consumed by a larger party. After serving the entree, he did not check on us until we had finished. The shrimp were cold and overcooked. They had a rubbery feel and taste.
Perhaps the bar menu is better and the drinks are good, but I can't say I was impressed by the dinner service.
Excellent service in glorious Belle Époque surroundings. The food was great especially the calamari, which comes highly recommended. Free valet was a bonus.
The place is beautiful, that’s it. Server was super nice, but didn’t have any sort of training. She didn’t know how to open a bottle of wine, she lost her note cards with specials on it, we asked to have our food coursed out but got it all at once. The shrimp and risotto was just boiled shrimp over boiled rice. The lobster bisque tasted watered down. The only food we enjoyed was the salad. Would not return to eat.
They helped plan an engagement perfectly. Staff was wonderful and everything went off without a hitch.
My overall rating is a 4 for one reason.. I left still feeling hungry.. I restaurant is beautiful, I loved that it is an old bank converted into a beautiful restaurant. The food and drinks were delicious! The drinks were reasonably priced and the food was decent pricing. The menu is small but they certainly have something for everyone. I went with my husband for a date night and the ambience did not disappoint. The service was great, eveyone was very attentive. I was disappointed that I felt hungry when I left. I would definitely return to listen to music and for drinks at the bar, but not sure that I would return for dinner.
The food was out of this world amazing! The chef brought out various fun dishes on the house. This is a wonderful date night spot.
An Outstanding dining experience! The service, food, drinks, ambiance and value were all excellent! I can't say enough positive things about our wonderful experience! Thank you!
Our experience at The Dorrance was an A+. Our server, Michelle, was a treasure! The food was amazing, the atmosphere was gorgeous, and we ate at a leisurely pace while keeping in mind we were going to a show at PPAC.
Bartenders were pretty inexperienced but very nice overall. Waiter was very good and the meal wasn’t rushed so we enjoyed the experience.
Food was outstanding as was service. The venue is beautiful.
This was our second time to visit The Dorrance for dinner. Both times we first had a cocktail at the bar and then had dinner in the restaurant. The cocktails are first rate and the food is really good. The bartenders are very attentive and the overall service at the restaurant is quite good. But coupled with the opulent interior the whole atmosphere is very nice for either a special event or just a fun night out (which was us). My only criticism is that I wish the hostess was actually dressed to match the bartenders, waiters, and the overall interior environment instead of being in jeans.
Great venue and ambience. Good service. Food was very good but small portions. My wife and I finished our meal and both still hungry.
Incredibly beautiful decor, and the food lived up to the place's elegance. Highly recommended.
This was our second time visiting the Dorrance and it was fabulous! Food was tasty and innovative...cocktails were delightful and the service was awesome! A fabulous dining experience!
The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and professional. Thank you Jim. The food was amazing. Creative and fresh with great nuances. Lots of little niceties that are missing in so many other dining establishments. The bar area was hopping. The surroundings are stately and elegant. A great tribute to a long forgotten throw back era. Parking is not a problem since there is a valet curbside. It is apparent that the owner takes great pride in her restaurant and staff. We look forward to returning.
We loved the historic building. Beautiful and unique setting in an old bank!
Our server, Brian, was amazing and very helpful. Thank you!
We went here for Restaurant Week so were not ordering off their regular menu. The server was affable, the cocktails nicely made. My friend's soup and chicken dish were delicious, my salad was Ok. My main dish was not great- it was "Gnudi with Duck Carnitas": the gnudi were undercooked and tasted like flour, as were the veggies which were almost raw; you needed a magnfying glass to identify the specks of duck meat. The gingerbread cake barely had any ginger flavor (did they forget to add ginger?) though the scoop of chocolate sorbet was divine with a deep chocolate flavor. The restaurant itself is beautiful with the amazing ceilings and walls of the old 19th century bank that it used to be.
Had dinner Providence Restaurant Week
Hadprix Fixe menu which was excellent quality and value
The ambience and the restaurant itself is absolutely Gorgeous and breathtaking. Wonderful place to eat. Great locations. Only downside is portions are very small relative to price paid.
Always classy at the Dorrance. Great service, great food, amazing environment.
I had really hoped to be wowed by The Dorrance -- the location is so great and they have done such a great job with the interior. However, from the moment we walked in it was a little disappointing. Hostess literally walked away from us when we came in the front door without saying a word. When she finally came back we were seated by being led to the table and a pile of menus set down -- she then simply walked away again really without saying much -- it was quite strange. It was a really cold night and despite there being a coat rack by the hostess station no one made any attempt to take coats and we were left to inelegantly drape them on our chairs. Cocktails were the one bright spot -- lots of care and attention to the menu and bartender offered to create custom cocktails for us as well. We were there during Restaurant week so half of our party ate from the prie fix menu and the others from a la carte. Again -- about half the food was good. Unfortunately the more adventurous menu items seemed to be the least successful. One member of our party has many dietary restrictions and the chef did oblige and her food was clearly carefully prepared which was appreciated. Overall probably not one we would return to for a full dinner but might be a fun spot to grab drinks before eating else where.
