Server was amazing. Birthday celebration and they sat us at the best table in the house. Band was incredible. Really impressive for date night or going out with friends.
Went on Tuesday night to listen to salsa band and dance. We had a great time, great music, great drinks
Fantastic band, waitress was attentive. Amazing date night
Mediocre service, underwhelming food...but do go for the band(s). Hats off to Ken Fowser’s drummer.
Charging me a cover charge of $20 per person and a minimum of two drinks per person, is way too expensive.
Great date night! Drinks were a tad expensive i would range them as $14 drinks not $18 but overall the band was great so it was a nice experience.
I would recommend sitting closer to the band. If you are in the back, you hear a cacophony of people speaking at a high intensity and don’t appreciate the music as much. We paid $20 per person to reserve a table and mostly just heard people talking loudly around us. It kind of ruined the mood. We were able to sit closer to the band for the last 15 minutes which was nice.
Would not go again. It aims to recreate an authentic jazz or underground music experience but falls flat. The relationship between the hotel and the place is odd— they let in hotel guests without reservation, but place reserved in advance tables in the back despite paying to be there; it’s a weird atmosphere where it’s busy but still empty tables for potential hotel guests near the performers. It’s not a music club or experience at all—it’s just a generic loud bar underground tries to replicate the two-drink & cover charge classic model of a comedy cellar or performance venue but you’re not seeing anything valuable and the hotel guests mill in and out ruining the experience of seeing music. Bizarre place. Very bro-y. Would have 100% preferred to go to Rockwood music hall, vanguard, the Stand, Canary club, etc. Glad I went to check it off the list but absolutely would not go back unless they totally revamped the way it’s managed.
Food was mediocre at best. The burger was not cooked to order, and the fries were cold. Drinks were skimpy and quite expensive. Service was poor and the wait staff was not very attentive. Music was good but the crowd was so loud that you couldn't enjoy it. If you're interested in listening to great jazz I'd think about going to one of the other clubs in Manhattan.
We thought the space was charming for our reason for going--to hear Sasha Dobson, a terrific jazz singer. Unfortunately, the bar noise was so extreme, listening was difficult and quiet conversation impossible. The food was good as were the drinks. The loud noise was disrespectful to the singer and her audience.
Truly one of a kind experience!
Great date night spot. Decent food and service.
Excelent place to listen good jazz, to drink and share with friends. A litle bit expensive.
The ambience and vibe of this place is great. Unfortunately the cocktails and food aren’t great, especially for the $18 per cocktail price. It’s a shame as we would have stayed for longer.
The best place to be if you love Jazz!
Django is a great jazz bar hidden at the ground level of Roxy Hotel. Nice ambience, great vibe and stellar performances. Drinks were awesome!
Sisters we’re all in town for the weekend. We chose this spot for the music and bites, & were pleasantly surprised by the amazing 3 course dinner!
The mushroom spaghetti squash was unbelievable. Highly recommend.
Jazz was great, it is a full show for 2+ hours.
Cool room good service. We were seated near the front with a small open floor in front of us. Went there wanting to see a jazz group and it started off well but then the songs would go into dance versions. And before long the dance floor was full. So it took on more of a wedding band vibe.
Another outstanding evening with tremendous entertainment!
Saying goodbye to a friend who was moving away.
Don't come here for the food; it is third-rate. You can come for the music, but be prepared for the acoustics to be so loud that it will leave you with a headache. The only positive part is the service, which is fine, but can't make up for the other deficiencies.
Wonderful spot for a first, second, or any kind of date. We boogied so much and had a wonderful time together. Def recommend.
We always have the best time at this place. Wonderful drinks and bands, always feels like you stepped back in time - in a fabulous way. We love taking guests here to listen to jazz and for a little late night dancing. One of our favorite spots in the city!
We had a reservation for the night and arrived as the first guests. The staff leading us to the table didn’t give us a table of our choice right away, saying that the tables close to the jazz stage are reserved. Eventually we got a table the staff claimed as reserved. Staff also laughed at my wife who explained to her that we want a table close to the stage because she has a hearing problem. This was disrespectful and rude. The food was good, but nothing too special. Music was very relaxing.
An awful experience. The menu is limited and the food expensive, the service slow, the orders arrived all at different time, we got the wrong items and to finish it off we got charged twice. We split the bill but one of my friends was changed the whole bill AGAIN against her card. She has not managed to get a refund after 3 days.
Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to respond to your service experience. At this time would you be able to email us your friends name and the name on the reservation so we may see to it that she is refunded for the overcharge? We're happy to resolve. In regards to your experience we would love the opportunity to invite you back for a round of drinks to make up for your experience. Please let us know if we can schedule a reservation for a return visit.
Placed our order shortly after being seated. Our appetizer came out fairly quickly but our wine came out about 45 minutes after the initial order and our meal close to an hour late. Thankfully the waitress was smart enough to take the $20 cover charge off the bill. As for the food. Mediocre. The band was great but the volume of the horns was way over the top. Once was enough. No need to go back.
Very expensive for what it is. Plus, they should allow everyone know when they make the reservation that they should pay $20 per person and there is a minimum 2 items per person.
Outstanding music and good food. Spectacular atmosphere.
Good bar drinks and an interesting if odd shaped room. I got the impression that they save the best tables for hotel guests, which put me off a bit, and the band that was finishing its set as we sat down was awful, but we ended up enjoying the night. Way down on my list of Manhattan jazz venues but OK if you know there will be a group you like playing.
Stunning ambience! Perfect place in New York for Jazz Lovers
I have been going to jazz clubs since I was 16 . ( I'm now 78 ) I've been playing the trumpet
for 66 years . Food : A total ripoff for the prices charged// Service : Excellent // Music :
Top Level - World Class Music - Musicians / Noise Level : Ridiculously Loud // Attention paid to the
music : Almost Nil // Ambiance: Horrible for a jazz club //
Went here for NYE 2019 and had a fantastic time! The show, food, atmosphere and service were all incredible! Can't wait to go back on a regular night.
It was beautiful and great ambiance. Singer could have been a little bit louder.
Excellent big band
The noise level was so bad that we could hardly hear the music and in fact couldn't hear the guest singer at all even though we were sitting very near the band. The waiter service was very good but it took a long time for our drinks to arrive. I thought it was very expensive and would definitely not do it again.
Fabulous and unique retro vibes.
The headlining band was exceptional, the staff was attentive and the audience committed music aficionados. My friends left after the main act, while I stuck around for the later jazz set (and another scotch) - my mind was fully blown. Four world class musicians I'd never heard of came on stage and absolutely crushed a variety of Coltrane covers and jazz standards. The late late set was equally cool with local jazz insiders invited to sit in.
Keep up the great work, Django.
Depends. A bit expensive for the venue and the show. People at the back (standing up) were very loud and it was very difficult to appreciate and enjoy the show. These people wanted, all night long to get a sitted spot so they were always coming near, it was crowdy and not confortable. When people started to dance, we couldn’t see the stage and there where no difference between people who paid a 45USD cover charge and the others.
One of the most intimate and exceptional NYC experiences. A rare mix of small size, perfectly managed attendance, fantastic entertainment and amazing other worldly ambiance.
We had been really looking forward to this and were very disappointed.
The music was fab - don’t get me wrong and the staff were polite.
However for $160 for 3 drinks total, small plate of cheese / hams and a small bowl of mac n cheese we would have expected a very small request to have been made.
We were placed on the front row, directly under the air conditioning that was freezing and blowing at 40mph! The outside tables were outside the blast radius and guests seemed happy. Noticed 2 tables vacant for over 30 mins and asked 3 times to be re located as we had our scarf and coats on. To get the response “sorry, it’s too much work to switch tabs from one table to another” I. The end, we had to just walk out after an hour - totally ruined the night. Make sure you request a table away from air conditioning
This is a great place for music lovers but especially Jazz. It is expensive although we shared the meat and cheese platter which was great. Cocktails and wine are good but beware as lighting is very low level and some “bottles” are half bottles and we made that mistake. Music, service and ambience was excellent so as long as you drink less then us you will be fine. I would return if in New York again
