The beginning of the evening was great: we were seated on the second floor and felt that the hostess (older out of two) thought that it would be a more comfortable place for us. Overall service was good. We had two waitresses: one from the "special event" team, helping out to the regular waitress. Both were attentive however we felt that both were up-selling.
My husband asked for a house cabernet. The waitress (from the special event team) brought what turned out to be a $22/glass wine while less expensive cabs by the glass were available.
We did not want to order a whole crab/uni pasta dish since it would be too much food for us, with other dishes we ordered. The waitress (the regular waitress for the table) suggested that she would make it as a small side. She brought a plate with pasta (that was very good) and we had no idea whether it was a side or a full-size dish. The bill came with a charge of $35 for a full dish. After we brought it up, she took $10 off the bill.
On the way out we were passing the hostess, a tall young women. At that moment we were the only patrons in close proximity to her. She did not even raised her eyes to say goodbye.
We heard that our neighbors were not happy with the service too but nevertheless decided to try. Sadly, I do not think we are coming back.
They seemed to be low on servers. Our waitress was totally overwhelmed. We had to flag her down multiple times. Apparently their wine is stored upstairs and it took forever to get another bottle of wine for our table. We also got the wrong bottle.
Really like the oudoor area in this place but if you're seated upstairs it can be a little sterile. Eaten here a few times and weirdly the happy hour appetizers beat the main evening entrees hands-down. Its a good choice if you want to try something different.
Such a great restaurant, I have dined here several times and the food is always incredible.
One thing lacking this time was the service. The waiter was great: funny, friendly, but just too busy. We needed to get up a few times to ask for drinks and the cheek.
Delicious & authentic food. Great ambiance & service.
Amazing experience, the food is delicious, ambiance is just right for people having a get together, our server is exceptional, definitely will recommend this restaurant to my friends.
Great restaurant, staff, and food. We will definitely be back.
Was a wonderful brunch for my best friend. Wonderful food, and fantastic service!
Classy restaurant with good service and a great menu. The waitress was very helpful. We loved the special noodles. Will definitely come back.
So I want to be perfectly honest. I go to the District once every couple of weeks for lunch. I usually get one of several items on the menu which I rotate based on my mood. The chicken wings is one of the best in LA. The dumplings are good. The garlic noodles are always good. I often get the vermicelli noodle salad with beef which is good. The inconsistency I found is with the pho. I always get the beef pho and sometimes with ox tail. Yesterday, it was raining and I opted for the beef pho. The perfect comfort food on a cold day. And I have to say that the noodles were absolutely terrible. The broth was fine but the noodles themselves were way overdone. Very soggy. I was extremely disappointed.
In the past, I’ve noticed on occasion that the noodles sometimes comes out too soggy. But when I comeback and order it again, it’s back to normal, not overdone with the right texture. But yesterday’s dish was beyond the normal level of inconsistency.
I was with a coworker and I didn’t make a fuss. But I wanted you guys know that there is a problem with the inconsistency in the quality of the pho. Yesterday was your rock bottom.
I will probably keep ordering the pho in hopes that it’ll be a good one. But if this continues, I may have to go and seek pho elsewhere.....
As for the service. It’s always the same waiter. I think he gets overwhelmed at times as I have to wait a while for the check. I know he’s trying hard but he may need some more help especially during the busy lunch hour.
I hope this feedback is helpful. And I will keep my fingers crossed that the next bowl will knock my socks off.
I love your chicken wings. They are the best!!!!!
I’ve been here many times and the food is always good. The servers consistently seem to hard sell the specials and highest priced menu items which I find annoying.
LOVE The District! I have been here multiple times and it never disappoints. Always receive great service!
The food was good. Only complaint I have is that they reported that I had not shown up for my reservation when I checked in with the hostess under my reservation
I read a lot of pretty harsh reviews, but decided to try The District, regardless. I was sadly not impressed at all. The waitress missed my Yelp check-in (free desert) and Only came by Once! The most disappointing thing was the value you get for the Price. I usually take photos. But there is nothing worthy of any photos. My small table was also overwhelmed with the amount of food we ordered! Sorry, but this place is a Big Miss!
Very disappointed. Have enjoyed the food and ambience several times in prior years and decided to come back again. Food was mediocre, lights were too bright, mojo is not what it used to be.
We wanted to do lunch nearby. We ended up having the restaurant to ourselves before the dinner service began.
Went for lunch. It was surprisingly empty, which makes me a little worried about the business. They still provided bottomless mimosas, and the server was very attentive about refilling our glasses. We ordered the handmade noodles with chicken, breakfast flatbread, and kimchi fried rice. The noodles and flatbread were fantastic, really tasty. The only thing we didn't like was the kimchi fried rice. The rice grains were a little too hard, and it lacked flavor. Had a good time there overall, would return, especially for the bottomless guava mimosas.
I found everything to be fabulous ! We plan to return soon and bring family and friends.
Excellent service and impecable style. The rice are unique but their volcanic special desert is out of this world
I just don’t think we caught them on their best night. Valentine’s Day, set menu, maybe they were slammed. Wrong dishes, courses out of order, etc. Kitchen likely was overwhelmed.
Service was great. Food was just too cold. Needs to be hot. Tight seating so was sat outside in the cold with people walking right past us outside which was a distraction.
My wife and I had an early Valentines dinner reservation for 6pm. I'll be brief. This was a bad experience due mostly to poor service and mediocre food at exorbitant prices. After an hour of missteps by the waitstaff, we were left with one final insult. On top of the overpriced ($99 per person) meal, a 20% gratuity was automatically added to our bill.
They use butter in most dishes but it doesn’t say it on the menu. Heads-up for those with dairy intolerances and more.
When we found out the kim Chi rice had butter, one waiter took it back saying he would take it off the tab. Then our waiter brings butter-free kim chi rice that we no longer expected nor could enjoy. Communication between staff on a very quiet night was disappointingly lacking.
Great food and great ambiance 5 of.us were impressed
The District is an awesome dining experience! The ambience; food and service is exquisite. Particular commendation to James, who is the best! I’ve dined here several times and have had a wonderful experience each time. Highly recommend!
The food was excellent! We kept ordering until we couldn’t eat any more! It did get quite noisy but I won’t let that stop me from returning.
Fun dinner. Great dishes to share. The garlic noodles and dumplings are always incredible. The special crab was delicious.
The service was lousy. Our order was brought out separately of each other and quite a long time period between each of us getting our orders and then one items was just forgotten about. Would not recommend.
Service was bad. I order kimchi fried rice add chicken $4.00 more. Whey I got order, I don’t see chicken at all. I told my server, she said It was chicken cube in there, me and my husband dig in again still don’t see it. End up she went to kitchen and came back with 2 chicken sticks and said this is different chicken in that fried rice. We know what chicken look like.
Great food but slow service.
The service was the worst I have had in a long time. The waitress only came to take our order and never stopped by the table again. She even forgot to run our payment. We had to go find her in the restaurant. I will not go back.
Having read other reviews, we asked to be seated in James M section. Made a huge difference. Food was interesting, not great - but interesting and good enough. Our waiter made it very interesting and personal
Manager was great. Didn’t know who our server was. Food was cold. Everything was very sweet. Not sure why prices were what they were.
Worst service I have had in a long time. We never saw our server after he took our order until we were paying. I had to order refills and dessert with the bussers sjnce we were never checked on. Dessert took over 20 min to come out. Food was good but service unfortunately ruined the experience. Doubtful that we will return
We really wanted to like the place. Overpriced wine and food
This place just keeps impressing me. Great service, great food, great drinks.
Compliments to our waitress, Jennifer. She was excellent and hopefully next time in we will have her again. Friendly and fun. Food always good and do love the ambiance of the outside patio area when weather allows.
Went here as part of DineLA. The tuna poke app was promising(nice portion, tasty), then it all went downhill. My noodles were so sugary sweet and the lemongrass chicken skewers were tiny. The three of them put together was maybe 1/2 a chicken breast. My friend very much disliked her salmon kale salad. She said the dressing(in which her salad was swimming) was weirdly sweet and the piece of salmon was literally half the size of a post it. The dessert was chocolate mousse. It was super dry and dense. It was like it was old and exposed to air.
The ambiance is nice. Our server was great and friendly.
Maybe we just ordered the wrong things, but I feel like the whole point of DineLA is to entice you to come back as a regular. I've done that with a bunch of places I've sampled via DineLA. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I'd never want to chance it again.
We were very very disappointed ... & considered this as a 'lesson learned'!!! We knew that it was going to be pricey for 'Vietnamese Food' since it's part of the An Family chain ... however, the food quality did not have the WOW factor for them to command such high prices. Their other restaurant, Crustaceans, is pricey also for what they serve, but they do have a coy pond and have a beautiful ambiance, which could make up for the overpriced dishes they serve. But not only was The District a dull & dreary restaurant, their food was dull & dreary as well. If anyone thinks they can't get the same type of Garlic Noodles any where else but from the An chain restaurants ... they are soooo wrong! You can have the same Noodles, if not better, at the Kicking Crab in Rowland heights for just $10. We went to the District to atleast sample the other fusion dishes they had ... but we absolutely over paid for tiny, I mean tiny crab legs, that it was an insult to serve such portions. There are so many other (negative) things I want to comment on this place ... but I'm just going to have to chalk it up that for this type of food ... please ... there are far more better Vietnamese fusion restaurants in LA/OC ... we just hoped they had dishes that had the 'upmth' factor even tho' their restaurant is dark & wooded-cabin like .. but no ... nothing special ... and such a WASTE OF HARD EARNED MONEY !!!
