The Dining Room at Brentwood Bay Resort and Spa Ratings and Reviews
Took my wife for our 20th, expecting a nice dinner meal based on Yelp's reviews. Not sure where the previous reviewers ate but we both experienced a poorly prepared dinner. The "shared" mushroom pate was nothing but some bits of mushroom mixed in with cream cheese. Steaks were chewy, served with undercook potatoes and burnt greens - obviously the water in the steamer boiled off. We have eaten in many establishments around the world, experienced various venues but what this restaurant portends to be is not what you get. Pretty expensive for what we got.
The menu was sparse. I had the Sablefish, I had to send it back because it was not cooked through it was still awful, mushy and slimy when they returned it to me. The fingerling potatoes were cold and crunchy. No suitable dessert to celebrate my 65th Bday. Husband had the duck it was okay. Mussels appetizer so-so
This was in top 5 best dining experience for us ever. Everything from the appetizer, the main course through the dessert was fabulous. The wine we chose was perfect and reasonably priced. Ambience could not have been better. Just a perfect evening all way around. We will definitely be back!
We sat outdoors on an October evening - the retractable roof and heaters kept us totally comfy and our from away guests were very impressed. Food was delicious, wine was a huge hit. On a Monday night in October it was very quiet, which for us was great. The lack of background noise meant we could talk and really enjoy our evening.
The Dining Room serves wonderful local food, well-prepared and artfully presented. The setting is beautiful, overlooking Brentwood Bay. Service was friendly and attentive. We had the crispy sablefish and sushi. (There is a sushi chef who prepares creative takes on classic sushi). Both were excellent. Definitely a lovely place for a special evening out.
This is a beautiful room with views out over the diinng deck to Saanich Inlet. The service was spot on. Our waitress lowered the blinds just enough to shade our eyes from the setting sun but still allow us a stunning view.
The food was good and the presentation was lovely. My squid ink risotto was more like flavoured rice. We also had the sablefish which was perfectly cooked. A neighbouring table ordered the sushi which looked lovely in presentation.
Was looking forward to a gorgeous view & yummy drinks & food, however, after waiting 30 minutes our waiter completely ignored us. After asking him if he was our waiter replied, "I'm not sure, am I?" We asked, can we order a drink , as we've been waiting quite awhile. I also asked to speak to the manager. Several minutes later, the hostess came over & I let her know we'd been waiting now over half an hour to which she replied yes I remember you! Pointless conversation as this point. Now manager comes over & I reiterate my complaint, meanwhile still no drinks. 5 minutes later he comes back with our drinks & let's us know they will be comped. Great right,? Nope, worst drinks ever! Didn't even drink them! For 12$ drinks the bartenders need to step up their game! End rant! 😒
A sunny evening - perfect for sitting on the deck. We had an early reservation so it was very quiet. Service was attentive and friendly. Enjoyed the menu very much - creole shrimp appy, duck breast for hubby (ask for it to be on the rare side, was a little over done) and mushroom ravioli. Nice selection of desserts, with share-able options. Nice wine list, too. Great experience - we'll be back.
Very disappointing . Thought it would be very good but it was nothing special. Very limited menu. We have had much better food at a quarter of the price. We have never had a good dining experience at these corporation owed hotel/spa places however much you pay. The cost did not matter to us but some would object to paying $140 for two starters, two mains and two drinks, no desert and no wine! We should have known better.
Went for Brunch on Father's Day and unfortunately they were not staffed adequately. This is strange in that it was almost completely booked. Unfortunately service was extremely slow. Food was great as always as was the ambiance. Too bad about the lack of staff.
We were very disappointed with our most recent experience in The dining room. We have had great food there before so we thought it would be consistent. However, the linguini dish was okay (was not even linguini noodles), the steak was mediocre (could have gotten way better at the Keg), and one of us was even given the wrong food altogether. For the prices on the menu, we were expecting great food - but we were very disappointed.
We had a nice dinner at the Brentwood Lodge restaurant, but waited way too long for our appetizers. Our waitress seemed to be rather inexperienced, but we gave her the benefit of the doubt. The scenery there is lovely and it is especially nice this time of year because of the later sunsets and the potential to sit on the terrace. WE sat in the doorway because it was getting cool when we arrived at 7:15. The sushi was very interesting, but took way too long to receive. The specials for main courses were excellent, particularly the lamb. All in all a nice experience, but they really should have discounted our bill because we waited so long for our appetizer.
Food was dry and old on the Mother's Day buffet brunch.
The food was bland and not good. The buffet table was missing serving utensils or had the wrong utensil for the item. Items were not replenished in a timely manner.
The dessert table was full of mass produced desserts from Sysco and not made in house. The quality has certainly gone down in years. Very disappointing.
We were using a Groupon purchase, which we knew would be good value because of previous visits. We were treated very well, were made to feel valued and enjoyed a three course menu.
Service was excellent, but we dined early, before the rush. Previous experience was very good, as well.
The food and views were spectacular, as always (we are repeat offenders). The service was a little slower than we are used to from Brentwood, ie, the waiter would "go get something right away" (bread, drinks, etc) and it would be 15 minutes before we saw him again. All in all very good, and we will be back.
We were very happy with our experience at the Brentwood Bay Restaurant. Food was amazing, the ambiance was beautiful and the service was good.
One thing though, I felt like our server was polite and gave good service, but we could both tell that he was trying to rush everything. Not sure if he just had a lot of tables to take care of that night but he spoke very very fast and was very rushed.
We encountered extreme waiting times (2 1/2 hours for a 3 course menu). Took more than 1/2 hour until we had a drink after we arrived. The fish dish was partly bland, partly overcooked , did not showcase the flavours listed on the menu. The chicken dish was good and the lamb dish had a rather dry potato cut in 3 slices which was listed differently on the menu.
We went with a Groupon and as such you get mini portions (as per staff, Groupon guests get smaller portions than 'regular' guests). All in all, it was not worth a Cent more than what we paid. I'd say that's marketing gone wrong as happy guests come back as full payers.
Dirty table to start with. The waiter tried his best but was overwhelmed with too many tables to serve. He kept apologizing for the waiting time but not once were we offered a small amuse gueule or simply a refill of the bread basked as a gesture to compensate for all the waiting. We all paid our drinks by credit card and the waiter just left each time one of us punched in their PIN and then it took another 5 minutes until he returned and enabled the next person to pay. I have been to many restaurants and never have I seen a waiter not wait at the table the few seconds it takes to enter a PIN. A manager in training showed up minutes before we left rather than after we complained during the meal. All in all a very sad performance of a highly rated dining room of a first class hotel. Lots of room for improvement.
