The Dead Fish
The food was better before. The shrimp are much smaller now on the sizzling grill.
Also the shrimp and chips, was a ton of fries and just a few shrimp.
Food was amazing!!!! Service was very quick and friendly. Will absolutely return!
I love this place and everytime I’ve been here it’s been wonderful. I don’t know if they hired new waitstaff but our waiter was terrible.
The food was amazing. We sat across the partitioned off glass from an overwhelmingly loud group and could not hear ourselves talk without almost yelling. But, it was Father’s Day and maybe it’s to be expected.
Overall, the food and the company was wonderful.
Service was a little slow, but not nonexistent. Calamari was not very good but the pork dish my husband got and my crab was delicious. Nice wine.
Overall experience was great! It took a while for us to get our bill but other than that, great experience.
Waiting to be seated even with reservations was excessively long!!!!
Food was horrible and reservations were required to wait an hour past reservation time.
We have been to The Dead Fish many times and consider it a "go to" for celebrations. Not sure what happened today - we had a 4pm reservation for Father's Day dinner. We arrived and it was extremely crowded and waited in line to check in. The hostess was telling people who did not have a reservation ahead of us that it was a 1 hour wait. When we checked in, they said the same thing to us. My daughter said "but we have a 4pm reservation" and the hostess (in a very rude and snotty tone) said "yep!" No apology, no explanation. We left because of her rude attitude, and because we couldn't wait that long. Come on, Dead Fish, if you can't accommodate reservations, don't take so many. We came in from out of town for this meal and left very disappointed. We did, however, drive into Benicia and had a fabulous dinner with great service at Sailor Jack's. We'd highly recommend it to any disappointed Dead Fish customers!
The food was good and the service excellent. On Father's Day, even with a reservation, we had to wait around 45 minutes before being seated. We were encouraged to enjoy the bar area which was good as we were able to meet new friends. This made it worth the wait. After being seated, the server did not compromise on service. We will return again.
I was very disappointed! Upon arrival for our 2:45pm lunch reservations, I was told there was an hour wait. I understand it was Father's Day and I'm sure extra at that. However, what was the point of making reservations if they were still going to make you wait! Besides that, there was zero parking! We ended up leaving. I will try going again, but definitely not on a holiday!
Waited about 20 minutes past our reservation time. Tanle was fine, waitress very friendly. But restaurant was just too crowded. Wait to be served was long; good thing we were prepared to order our dishes along with our drinks. Wsited quite a while for bread to be served, waited quite a while for our food to be served. My favorite dish, seafood cioppino, was more salty than usual. For the high price, the restaurant can do a lot better.
We went on Father's Day so it was super busy. We got to sit outside the noise level was perfect. Both meals were brought out at vastly different times and my date wasnt told he couldnt have his selection until after he had waited 30 extra minutes. Overall it was a pleasant experience the food was good. I highly recommend the calamari!
We happened to go on Fathers Day. They seemed to overbook all reservations because the average wait time was still 30 minutes to an hour with reservations. The staff behind the front counter was horribly rude to pretty much everyone although there seemed to be a pattern of people who were allowed to bump the line when it suited the Staff. We were standing at the front watching and hearing the entire time. After a 30 minute wait it took another hour to get our food. When it came out it was luke warm at best. The fries with the fish and chips were soggy with oil. The kettle chicken was cooked to death and the short ribs were barely warm. I can't knock the wait staff, they were so busy it's not their fault. I think the food could be great. The views are amazing. I would recommend to the owners to stop being greedy and overbooking. A happy customer is a repeat customer. Many of those we spoke to in line were very unhappy. Please fix your pagers because they just randomly vibrate for no reason. The front staff should tell everyone that instead of snapping at them when they bring the pager back THINKING their table is ready.
My family and I were there on Fathers Day for lunch. Had I not been to the Dead Fish before, I would never go back. We had a reservation, but had to wait over an hour for our table. Was clearly double booked for reservations as there was no parking, including in the neighborhoods, many people were waiting out into the parking lot, for their table. Waitstaff was overwhelmed and the noise level was horrible. Very poor management decision to go with overbooking a day that was supposed to be special. Was extremely disappointing. You can, and have, done so much better. Will not be returning anytime soon, if ever.
I’ve eaten here before so 5 stars for the food. However, they shouldn’t allow reservations via Open Table if they can’t accommodate it. I booked a reservation for 1:45pm and checked in at 1:40pm. I was told there would be over AN HOUR wait. I went back into Open Table, they still had reservations open for 2:00, 2:15, etc.
We love this restaurant! The crab and mussels were delicious as usual. Will, our waiter, provided excellent service as usual! We seek him out so that we can sit in his section!
We will be back!
Showed up at 1:25 for 1:30 reservation. 40 people standing outside the restaurant. I was asked to wait 1 hour for our table of 4 reservation!
2 hour wait WITH, reservations. I didn't want to give all 1 stars, but had no alternative. Have been there before great food, BUT, if overbooked, STOP TAKING RESERVATIONS.
Reservation didn't work. We still waited an hour, then left.
We made a reservation and when we arrived at the restaurant at that time, we were advised we would need to wait another 30min for a table. The crowd waiting outside for a table was enormous. After 30min, we inquired when we would be seated and were told it would be another 30min. Clearly the restaurant overbooked tables and instead of sending out alerts of the long wait, or denying further reservations or denying walk-ins or even offering a free drink or dessert to make up for not honoring the reservation, they did nothing. When we were finally seated, the older busboy in the front room told us it was busy because the day we booked, a busy holiday, was a day for amateurs. The amateurs in this scenario are the management personnel at this restaurant.
Great food and service. Had a reservation, but still waited over 1 hour to be seated. Horrible! Only complaint was the wait.
With reservations there was still a 45 minute wait to be seated... could have been longer but ended up being seated in the bar area. It was Fathers Day, so busier than usually, but it seems like they could have planned better. Service team did what they could but was still way to long of an event just for brunch.
Great place to go for a special occasion. Wait staff are wonderful, professional, personal and made the experience what it was! Hostesses at the front were rude and unprofessional. AVOID going there during holidays because they are SUPER disorganized. Everyone had a reservation through OPEN TABLE and they turned down all walk-ins....HOWEVER, we all had to wait OVER an hour WITH A RESERVATION! The hostess kept saying 15-20 minutes over and over again. Awful business practice.
We enjoyed the time at the restaurant. We were sat outside therefore we had a perfect weather and great table. Chad was an outstanding server with the rest of the team. It was unfortunate that there was a gentleman with his wife a daughter that couldn't stop complaining and demeaning the service and food. My brother and husband were irritated with the man for they knew how the work was placed on the restaurant staff on Fathers' Day. The comment, he was looking for a free meal. Dead Fish may have staffed itself for the day but in no way they could have prepared for the excessive customers of the day. Our time was reserved for 12:30 PM, though we made it in good time, we couldn't find parking reporting to the front desk 10 minutes late. Yet the staff was polite and showed calmness while people kept showing up to eat. The crab and Oso Bucco were great.
Very disappointing check-in/reservation experience. 45 minutes waiting for our 12 noon reservation, and little empathy or care shown by the staff. That set the stage for Fathers Day... it was far overbooked, and that’s unprofessional and demonstrates they really don’t value the guest experience.
We ate bread for our Father’s Day lunch as it took an hour for our food to arrive. Our server was apologetic and kept letting us know the food wasn’t up yet but it was a bummer we had to fill up on bread waiting and didn’t enjoy our our seafood when it finally came as we were then full.
Note to Dead Fish - We normally enjoy coming but seems like you overextended yourselves on Father’s Day.
Father’s Day brunch at the dead Fish was amazing. The variety of food that we had at our table was incredible. We have never had a bad meal nor a bad experience at The Dead Fish. This is our number one go to the restaurant.
Thanks guys, you are the best.
Father’s Day brunch was delightful! Our meal selections, beverages, amazing attentive service (on an incredibly busy day), and view were perfect. thank you! :)
Ionly thing I might recommend is they start a policy that kids on devices use headphones. We were surrounded by families who’s kids were blaring their tablets.
Fathers Day Brunch was great!
A little pricey, but enjoyed it. Great for special occasions like Father’s Day.
Great food and service as always from our server.... The front desk staff could have been more friendly when we were checking in for our reservation.
Delicious food! Fresh and perfectly prepared. I try something different every visit and each time it’s outstanding!
We love this place! The food is great and the view scenic. The Crab Crostini and Crab Chowder (clam chowder with crab piled on) are fabulous! I had the Crab Angel Hair Lasagna which was also excellent. The service is always friendly and prompt. Once of our go-to places when we are out with friends.
I have been coming here for a very long time. I hadn't been in awhile and i made a reservation for 2 for a birthday. When we came in, they put us in the very back at a table in a room away from everything. My view was the extra server station filled with water pitchers and trays. The surroundings looked like we were in a circus tent. No one greeted us the entire time we were there. We asked to move and the hostess told us it would be a wait. Luckily a table opened up in the main dining room and we were seated. I just wished they would take a little more care for a reservation for a birthday. (we didn't get the dessert or candles either). Food and service was fine, but The experience was pretty "meh."
First, we had made the Saturday reservation a couple months in advance and in that reservation specifically asked for a window seat with a view and no back room seating. On arriving we were told that there were no window seats but we could sit outside on the enclosed deck or what I call the back room, the noisy smaller part of the restaurant separated from the main room. We declined the deck since we knew it would be cold as the marine layer and wind were coming on for the evening and declined the back room because of prior bad noise experiences there. So, really, a big negative before we even got started. We waited 10 minutes and were finally given a small "cubicle" table in the middle of the main room where we could at least see hills across the bay. But not what we had envisioned with careful advance planning. The food was okay to good, especially the crab enchiladas. My son said his pasta dish was "okay" but nothing to write home about. Wife had a glass of wine, me a coke, son water, with two salads (house/beet), two appetizers (fries and calimari), all okay to good the tab was $220 with 18% tip. Too much for the quality of food and the mindless dis of our seating request. We have been here a half dozen times, but there are now clearly better options for the price. For a weekend will probably not come here again. Parking always a challenge. On a weekday it might be a better experience than we had. But in our estimate it has gone downhill.
Amazing Crab, fantastic service
Great crab and shrimp on a hot skillet!
We had a great table in front of the window. The Carmel dessert was amazing. Costco also sells gift cards for the dead fish and they can be used at their sister property at pier 39.
