The Dead Fish Ratings and Reviews
Sat on the patio in one of the cabana's had my 96 year old mother with us and it was a little cool so she still had the outside table she wanted but was comfortable, the view as always was fantastic, food excellent, service excellent. One of our favorite restaurants!
This restaurant came recommended to my visiting parents by the staff at the Marriott as they wanted seafood while visiting the Bay Area. The food did not disappoint! However, the parking situation is *terrible* and my poor elderly parents had to walk all the way down from the top of the hill nearby as street parking all the way at the top of the next street was all we could find.
Avoid the boneless short rib, it's disgustingly salty (smothered with dark sauce that tastes like awful soy sauce). Salmon in lemon butter caper sauce is mediocre. Dead fish stew and shrimp cioppino were both too salty as well.
Over all: not worth the money.
My husband and I celebrated our son-in-law after a promotion to Captain in the Sacramento City Fire District. We also celebrated his wife, our daughter, and our grandchildren who were the loyal supporters as our son-in-law studied and worked hard to attain this position. Chris, our waiter, was wonderful and after dinner brought out a special dessert and a candelabra with three, tall, brightly lit candles, saying to the Captain, "I thought you would be able to handle this fire"!! Very Sweet. A great time all around. Thank you.
We just found your wonderful restaurant about two years ago. I love eating outside in the cabanas! And so does my family.....the view and fresh air is great. The privacy is something we all enjoy and the customer service is excellent as well as the service. We don't get to come a lot, because we live in Davis, so we save our visits for special occasions.
I took my wife here once before for her birthday, this time I took her along with my mother-law, brother in-law and step-daughter. Needless to say that I was the star of the day even though it was Mother's Day. The Dead Fish has an excellent menu choice from appetizer's to the main course. I ordered a large platter of Mussles` and Shrimp and Crab cakes for everyone at the table. Since my in-laws are from the South, they know good seafood when they taste it, and they said that this was some of the best they had ever tasted. None of them had eaten Mussles` eaten before but they really enjoyed everything including the timely service and the great view!
So I really like the dead fish. The food is great have a good selection. It overlooks the bay and at night you really cant beat the view. On this trip however I made a reservation called ahead to check on it, but when I got there and gave them may name someone had taken my reservation. It would be bad on a normal day but the day before mothers day isn't the day to show up without a reservation. So ok my table is gone I have to wait I'll talk to the manager and they will make it right. Well no the manager says reservations are first come first serve. So ya was I a little upset, yes I was. Will I go back to Dead Fish, yes I will. Hopefully this doesn't become a normal thing and I can continue to enjoy this place.
The crab chowder was wonderful and the fresh crab was greater than expected. Our primary reason for choosing The Dead Fish was to celebrate Mother's Day and eat fresh crab. Our wishes were fulfilled; however, the next time we decide to go to The Dead Fish it will NOT be on a holiday. It was entirely too crowded and we had to wait over 45 minutes to be seated even though we had an early reservation. Also, parking was a huge challenge. Overall, the service was well timed and friendly. Once we were seated, we did not feel rushed. Thank you for a nice dining experience.
Had a fantastic evening at the dead fish great food and service as usual waiters are attentive without being bothersome food was beautifully prepared. A great place to sit on the patio great views. I would highly recommend eating here my only complaint is the parking.
Enjoyed a family celebaration on Saturday. Parking a challenge, rest of experience was nice. Showed up very early with large party for a reserved time, accomodated us without complaint or fuss anyway. Noticeably busy, but wait times for food were short and kids stayed calm. Highly recommend reservation, looked like everyone shows up there on the weekend, as I said earlier parking covered the neighborhood. In-laws happy with experience, can't put price on that.
Had the calamari appetizer, and the caesar salad with crab. Both were outstanding! We especially enjoyed the dressing on the caesar salad - as foodies we tried to determine what was so remarkable about it.... perhaps a hint of horseradish(?) The service was wonderful, and so was the view. It was truly a remarkable dinner that I will remember for a long, long time.
Yeah, the name is weird. The menu plays along with the "dead" theme, in a really fun way ... and that will help you get past the name really quickly. Similarly, get past the fact this place is in Crockett. Who would go to Crockett for a great meal with so many incredibly well-known "foodie communities" all around? But again, the simple menu will surprise you. Portions are big; everyone in our group of six found something that they loved. This was a wonderful all around surprise. Oh... and don't forget the view! Nestled on the cliff above the water, at the southern end of the Carquinez Bridge, the views are spectacular! Enjoy!
What a beautiful restaurant, but what poor management at the reservation desk! They should not be on Open Table because they do not honor their reservations!! My boyfriend and I were very excited about coming here and got there 5 minutes before our reservation and they said we would have to wait to be seated because they hadn't sat 5 tables before us that had reservations as well. Huh? They were just taking people in without reservations and not saving tables. There were about 20-30 people waiting for a table so we just decided to eat in the loud and uncomfortable bar area. What a disappointment!! They should not be on Open Table if they are going to manage like that!! Just an FYI to future diners.
This was my first visit and I must say that when I saw the size of the restaurant I was a little overwhelmed and dubious that it would be anything more than a touristy, so- so eating place, but... The view from our outside table was spectacular. The (lotta) crab and wine excellent - that's all we had. And the very pleasant, knowledgeable and efficient server made the whole experience special.
We enjoyed our dinner very much and our waitress was a gem. The downside was that it was so busy that we had to park and walk a long way to get to the restaurant. Our waitress was very busy and it took a long time to get our order taken. The good side? Even though it was very busy, our table was ready and waiting for us. The food was wonderful: great ingredients, cooked perfectly. It was worth putting up with the inconveniences.
It was mine and my husbands anniversary and we wanted to go some place not too far from home with great foods and great ambiance. We always heard great things about the Dead Fish so we decided to give it a try. We went on a Friday night and although we had a 7:30 reservation they were able to seat us early. Our server was very friendly. I wish I could remember his name but he gave us excellent service. We started with drinks and appetizers. We took our time and our server was very patient he didnt rush us, let us enjoy our view of the bridge. My hubby doesnt usually eat fish but we ordered the Halibut based on our servers recommendation and the Prime Rib and Crab plate to share we ate it all up! It was amazing! We will definitely be back!
This is a delightful place. The food is tops. don't let the name fool you, I had the lamb and it was great. We have always have excellent food here. Chris, our waiter, anticipated our needs most of the evening, drinks, water, coffee, etc. Then there is the view, sunset is most plesant, and outside seating is available. This is a good place for a special occasion or simply a splendid meal.
Though off the 'beaten path,' Dead Fish exceeded my expectations. Service was good - drinks came quickly and meals arrived timely. Prior to this visit, I had only eaten on their outdoor patio. Weather permitting, the patio is awesome with its panoramic view of the bay. I was surprised at how large the restaurant actually is -- looks like the owners have done all they can to accommodate the inevitable crowds. Note that parking can be a challenge -- even though there's nothing else around, 3 parking lots and some street parking, parking was still a challenge. Keep this in mind when visiting on weekends and/or peak times.
