The Dead Fish Ratings and Reviews
Best dining experience in the East Bay.
We were celebrating my wife's birthday with my in-laws (late
80's with mobility problems). They really took care of us, we felt very special.
My father-in-law said it was the best filet mignon he had ever tried!!
There were six in our party and they had something to satisfy everyone's appetite.
Celebrating my wife’s birthday. Should have taken her to someplace else. Reservations made, seated at the time reserved. That’s good. View.... due to the fires nearby in Napa and Solano counties, we decided to stay indoors due to poor air quality. Got a view, after they removed the high chair stacks so we could see the view.
Food.... terrible. Garlic crab was so dry. Where’s the garlic and butter and herbs? Halibut was terrible. Dry. Burned onto the cast iron platter. And it was to be encrusted. No crust. Just a dried red schmear on top. Don’t even know what that was. Couldn’t get the fish removed from the plate. So she left the bottom stuck to the plate. Great couscous tho. Wife loved it!
Service was great. Wife’s drink was Moscow mule. The 1st one was good. The second one lacked alcohol and where’s the lime like the first drink? Must have been left sitting next to the vodka! Well I tipped more than I should have since the service was great! Everything else.... well i owe my wife another birthday dinner since she was, and I was too, not happy overall.
And be ready to smell the cigarette smoke from the parting guests, there smoking section appears to be at the entrance while guests wait for their car.
It was a very busy night so our server was understandably delayed at time, but still attentive and took very good care of us. The drinks delicious and refreshing. Our crab crostini so amazing! The cioppino layered with flavor, the filet mignon perfectly tender and well seasoned! Absolutely everything on the table delicious and we had such a great time bringing our friends for their first time! We HIGHLY RECOMMEND you visiting. We definitely will be back.
This was our first visit to the Dead Fish. We were celebrating my aunt's 88th birthday. Everything was perfect. Our waiter was so very attentive, polite, and accommodating. The food was yummy, with multiple selections to pick from. My only complaint would be the noise level. We had to lean in close to one another to hear. And by close, I mean about a foot from mouth to ear. Perhaps when people are all enjoying themselves, it just gets noisy.
I was very disappointed on this last visit! I brought 2 friends it was their first time. We didnt even get offered fresh pepper and Parmesan cheese for our pasta like other tables around us did. We had to ask twice for a drink refill and we waited 10 minutes just to get a side of tartar sauce. For the price, the service should b better! It wasnt even that busy. :( we spent good money there too. I know my friends were not impressed and will not be coming back. I assured them that dinner service was better.
The view and service were great. Within 30 minutes of leaving the restaurant I developed stomach cramps followed later that day by other unpleasant intestinal issues. I’m assuming it was the Shrimp fettucine because I was the only one in our group who had that entrée and the only one who got sick.
I sent the restaurant a note about this but have not gotten a reply. ☹
Great food as always! We come here at least twice a month if not more. The only thing notable to improve on this visit is the portion size of the crab lasagna. It's one of my favorites, but was much smaller this visit than in previous visits; however, price was same.
We go often to the Dead Fish. On this occasion it was to meet fellow alumni from Cal Maritime and their wives for a late lunch before attending a function at Cal Maritime. We sat outdoors and had great views of our alma mater. The food was excellent as usual and so was the service.
