The Dead Fish Ratings and Reviews
The Dead Fish has a celebratory vibe in feel. Nicely decorated and situated on the picturesque Carquinez Straits in charming Crockett, the place is totally eye candy, inside and out.
We recently visited for a birthday celebration, mine. Meals start with delivery of scrumptious Acme linked rolls and butter which got replaced as needed without asking. Wait staff is very attentive and friendly.
I had a delicious bacon, lettuce, tomato salad topped with shrimp. Delish and some came home with me. A friend ordered the fish and chips and says it was the best she ever had. A very large single piece of fish on top of perfectly done fries. French dip sandwich got rave reviews but my husband had the best....a filet mignon. He gave me a few bites and it was so perfectly done (rare) and tender, oohs and ahhs all during the meal. It's a bit pricey but really worth every cent. Enjoy!
The food is amazing! The crab was excellent and it’s a great place for special occasions. We went for our birthday celebration and they bring you a free slice of delicious cake and a beautiful candelabra for a candelight dessert. It’s right on the edge of the water and has an amazing view. The outdoor seating isn’t that great; it’s heated but still somewhat cold and there’s a cat that runs around outside which was unpleasant.
This is my go-to restaurant for special occasions and to enjoy amazing crab! I've been coming here for about 10 years now and I haven't been disappointed once. Incredible views (sit outside during warmer months - especially nice for brunch hours). The ambiance is great, food is always outstanding and I can't say enough about the service. Also - no corkage fee! Enjoy!
We had dinner here for our wedding anniversary. I let the restaurant know about our occasion ahead of time via the special request text box on OpenTable. The waiter was very gracious and made sure we enjoyed ourselves. He brought over a candelabra and a dessert after our meal and wished us happy anniversary. The hostess took our photo for their website. The service was very good and we were more than pleased with the food. The bread is excellent. We left our bag of left over food and the waiter followed us outside to give it to us. I would definitely recommend other to try The Dead Fish.
We went for our dae night wih out our kids. We get the usual which is the calamari and the cioppino. We spilt the meal. The calamari was tender and cooked beyond perfect. The soup was good. The octupus and fish cooked perfectly. Only weird thing was there was a stray cat hanging out on the outside patio looking for a meal.
Great scenery. Even if it's cold and there's availability, request outside seating. You can view the Carquinez and the water, and there's ample heating. Even though there was a lot of folks eating dinner, you didn't feel cramped and service was on their game for a Saturday evening. Food was good and came out hot, water replenished promptly as well as their bread.
Overall a really nice place for seafood lovers!
We went for a last minute Thanksgiving seafood experience and were not disappointed - whereas in previous trips, we felt they skimped on the crab in appetizers, this time, we ordered a simple dinner of whole roasted crab, clam linguini (loved this), some sourdough cheese bread and a bottle of Reisling. Perfect. Thanks Dead Fish!
Went for Thanksgiving Dinner, half of the group did not want the traditional and ordered off the menu, the vegetarian was very happy with the options and the seafood lover was delighted with the crab enchiladas. The service was great although the kitchen was rather pokey, this may have been because of the holiday meal, but you kind of expect that to be a plate and serve deal. The view at night was spectacular. All in all a very enjoyable experience.
Here is the review I just made for Open Table: Since it was Thanksgiving day and very busy, I will cut them some slack for the overdone and dry calamari steak entre (without an apology), and an insensitive action by a server (who was quite good in other respects). Usually, things are better at the Dead Fish (the two other entrees that were served were fine), and I would still recommend them. However, at their fairly high price range, they should do better, even on Thanksgiving!
