The Dead Fish Ratings and Reviews
Came with my boyfriend who flew in from LA for a late Valentine’s Day dinner. We had the best experience great service, excellent food. We sat outside on the patio, and watched as the sun went down. We brought our own bottle of wine, and had the prime rib and a whole crab. Delicious. Would recommend to anyone. Great place.
It’s usually very good here, our favorite restaurant in the area, but this time everything was a miss! The pricey Halibut at $30 was dry. The Calamari steak that I’ve had before has shrunk in portion. And although it was early and not busy yet, the service was poor and had to ask twice for everything.
Had reservations , took 15 minutes just to get up to the check in stand. Then another 30 minutes to be seated , & another 40 for the meal to come out. The waitress left us sitting at the table for 20 minutes before getting us water or greeting us.
Went around the same time last year & loved our experience.
Yes Way too pricey to be treated bad.
This has become our annual spot for Valentine's day. Even though we had a reservation, there was a long reservation line because we were told that the manager decided to overbook. It was definitely not a long wait, so it's worth It! Parking can get a little crazy, so you should show up maybe 20-30 mns early....dont freak out if you can't find parking right away. We really enjoyed being inside the restaurant the first time we went next to the window. We tried outside which was really nice because they have heaters above the tables. We ordered the whole crab with the shrimp. For an appetizer we ordered the crab cakes, and they are amazing!! The waiter was amazing too. He said he's been there for 9 yrs....he knows his stuff for sure ...he even served us last year. We recommend this place 100%
This was our first time at The Dead Fish and celebrating our anniversary. The price was slightly higher than other crab shacks but the quality was much higher and well worth the price. I highly recommend the Dead Fish.
The only drawback was the limited parking
They do have security guarding the parking lots.
One of our favorite places to eat! Great food, great service, wonderful view. We have never had a bad experience here. We were surprised how busy they were being the day before Valentine's Day, but luckily we had reservations. We recommend this restaurant to everyone!
The Dead Fish is our go-to restaurant when we want to celebrate special days , you know, like Tuesdays. In addition to the fabulous views, the wait staff is always spot on. Our favorite meal is cioppino for two. Words can't describe how good it is. There is always a little bit of sauce left over which we take home and mix with fettuccine - a tasty reminder of the good food and time we had.
I have been to the Dead Fish many times and I enjoy it each and every time. You cannot beat the view of the Carquinez Straits. There is nothing more relaxing than sitting out on the patio watching the boats go by. I have never had a bad meal at this restaurant.
Overall it was a great visit; the only two comments for improvement: the room was very hot and we asked for the A/C but it only work for a little while. The appetaizer (sp) of crab and shrimp (half order) appeared smaller than normal. But other than these two everything else went very well. Thank you! P.S. Can you let us know where can we see our picture of the event? Thanks!
Crystal (server) was great. However, I do feel like the kitchen rushed our service. My biggest pet peeve: I ordered the filet medium rare, it came out butterflied and over cooked. The next came back perfectly medium rare but still butterflied. Unless I make a special request, please dont butterfly my filet.
This was our first visit, booked for my husbands Birthday after reading yelp reviews was a little nervous and was thinking of changing venues, however we went and glad we did we found the service great and enjoyed our meal, also had a great table with view!!
Great spot for lunch, beautiful water view, really unique place, feels like old California. You can sit at a water view table or an intimate leather booth. Good food, wide variety of options and everything is delicious (portions on some items are large if you want to share different things). Wine list is perfect for the food and setting, adequate selection, unpretentious and affordably priced. Friendly, competent service. An enjoyable, relaxed experience. Conveniently located off I-80, about halfway between San Francisco and Napa with easy parking.
Overall, very good value, except for the calamari steak. Would not order again, possibly the smallest portion my wife and I have ever seen. It was almost laughable. Everything else was very good and a good time was had by all. Just the calamari was at least half the size of what it shouldve been. We all know why , and it's unfortunate. No one would come back for that.
They specialize in crab and prime rib, and unfortunately I can't review either of those. We had the fish and chips, which were very good. Featured a very generous portion of fish, fried to perfection with a nice crisp (not greasy) crust, and perfect inside. Also had the seafood squid ink linguine with crab, fish, shrimp, calamari, mussels, and clams. It was served with a red sauce (ala cioppino), and just didn't click as well as we'd hoped. The crab and fish seemed fresher than the mussels and clams, but they may have just been a bit overcooked. We'll have to try some other dishes there in the future.
We had a great night out! Meet with a few good friends and had the best food Dead Fish could Plate. We had a few small plates... Crab cakes, shrimp, beat salad and apple salad. This with the fresh baked bread OMG.... I had the whole crab and this was a treat. I will have it again, we also had the halibut in the chipino sauce that was to die for. The prime rib was out of this world.
Chris was our waiter and he did a fantastic job. We will be back!
