The Dead Fish
Cioppino was amazing, our server was outstanding! She was attentive, friendly and made great food/dessert recommendations! We come here several times a year with friends and each time the experience is amazing! Only feedback is that you had limited kid options. A hamburger should be an option. My kid can’t eat dairy and gluten and we typically order a burger patty and fries, but that wasn’t on the kids menu. We had no choice but to buy him a $20 adult burger which was not worth it considering he only ate a few bites.
Garlic noodles and shrimp absolutely delicious! Highly recommended place for dining out!
My lady’s travel group have our December luncheon at The Dead Fish every year. The food is great and the ambiance is perfect for us.
Nice table, good view, good service, the food was properly prepared. All round nice place to be on a stormy evening. The price should be rated $$$ rather than $$.
Such a fun spot to enjoy a formal or casual dinner. Service was excellent and added to the experience
The sand dabs were cooked perfectly and the House salad was refreshing and tasty. Arnold Palmers come with an extra jar of refill. Thoughtful. Great view. Good parking.
I've been a regular customer at the Dead Fish for several years, love the view, the food, the service is always excellent. Unfortunately, we had several dirty dishes on our table, a cracked water glass, and the general ambiance did not have the super clean look that I'm used to and expect when I bring my guests. Hope this review draws the attention of the management, I know they want to know about this type of disappointment.
A great time! Loved the crab and warm French roll. The wedge salad however did not have enough dressing and what dressing it had was thin and pretty tasteless. Otherwise, we had a great meal with outstanding service!
Lunchtime service was very slow and inattentive. Food was missing salt.
Disappointed by server who did not clarify brunch menu.
We had a wonderful time..the food was delishious especially the crispy crab cakes! But our dinner was made so much better because of our waiter Robert! He was personable, happy and very helpful. Next time we go we will try to make sure he’s there!
Wonderful experience and a great romantic vibe! First time going and now a new repeat customer!
Crab Feast for 4 is always filling and so very tasty! We love this and the garlic noodles. Service was a little slow but they were busy! We sat on the patio outside with the heaters on and rain coming down, truly great atmosphere, even the house cat was a nice touch!
This was a first time visit for our group to The Dead Fish. We came to celebrate a birthday, at the recommendation of other friends who are regulars. Although we had to park up the hill, that was no real problem, and it was worth it for the great dining experience. The dining room was filled with happy people, our service was superb, and the chandelier for birthday candles was an unexpected DELIGHT. We will all be back, and have already told others how great it was.
Outstanding as always. I enjoyed the prime rib and the rest of my party each had the branzino.
I’ve always enjoyed the food. Family and friends from the Bay Area seem to be amazed at this hidden gem in the East Bay.
The bar was nice with good service, As for the restaurant we ordered the double shrimp and dungeons crab. For the price I didn't expect to have peel the shrimp and the crab tasted like it was frozen.
The mussels and crab were excellent and the service was excellent as well.
David, at the bar makes great Martinis. Try the Angel hair crab lasagna...appears small, but so rich it fills you up just right. The seafood pasta with squid ink fettuccini was like capping without the soupiness...Wow!
Food was excellent, fish was fresh - 9 people and not a single complaint - service was also excellent. Great view of the bridge and the strait. A good meet up location between San Francisco and Sacramento - lots of parking available
This place never disappoints. Every time we’ve come here we’ve had superlative food and great company. A must visit!
Overall, it was fair. My husband had the fish and chips. Heavily breaded. I had mussels that were on a skillet with no broth. Mussels need broth.
Two of us had lunch there and it wasn't crowded on a weekday. We spent 3 hours there and our waitperson did not rush us and checked our table periodically. Of course the water-oriented location is an attractive daytime setting, though it was too cold/rainy to eat outside. This place has the old school feeling of nostalgic comfort. We had the crab crostini with smoked salmon & avocado appetizer- very good. I was a little disappointed in the crab & shrimp louie presentation but the serving was ample. My friend ordered a house salad accompanied by a plate of sand dabs and was happy with the result. Wines by the glass are limited but adequate. Customers were still coming in at 3 PM when we left. A popular relaxed place. I've been here for dinner when it's packed and I've had to park up the hill. The vibe is a little different then but if it's a fun atmosphere you want, that's what you'll get!
Always fun with good food.
The entire staff seemed depressed or burned out. The prime rib was cold sides were lukewarm and the atmosphere was different from our previous experiences here. It was a birthday dinner for my wife and that was noted on the app, but no mention from the servers, not the usual as we do our anniversary dinners here and are always acknowledged. New management? Something is different than before. The excellence is missing!☹️. Sad.
Absolutely a great place and the food never disappoints
My Crab feast was dry and lacking flavor. I always ordered the lotsa crab feast, and this time I ordered the 2 crab menu. It didn't have the flavor like it did in the past. I always come to The Dead Fish for seafood, but I'm going to past for awhile. We sat at the bar, and the bar, and we felt like we were inconveniencing the bartender. The customer next to the napkins and forks handed us the napkins and forks, and when the food came, the bartender didn't have the bowl for me to put my shells. Had to ask for more bread which took awhile and more water. Pretty much had to ask for everything. The customer next to us felt the same way. This is the 2nd bad service we've received, so I'm done for awhile.
Service is going downhill. Seems like there are not enough wait staff. Had to wait for simple, yet essential things like water, condiments, bread. I had to send my eggs Benedict back because the eggs were hard boiled. My son had to wait for his entree while the rest of our party was served. I am disappointed and hope that they get their act together because this is really a great restaurant with stunning views, however, I won’t go back if the food and service doesn’t improve.
Dinner was great!
Fantastic place to meet old friends over the holiday, great drinks, crab and the no corkage fee on the wine is such nice touch.
Always great food. Best thing about this place is the $0 corkage fee.
The crab feast was outstanding and the bread was delicious!
One of our favorite places to go. Love the ciopinno with tue basil garlic brotha. We will be visiting more often going forward for lunch on Sundays.
We enjoyed our dinner a lot. Food was great. We preferred not to drink anything because the glasses were dirty.
Thanksgiving dinner was great. It was busy. Little disappointed that my husband’s Lemon drop came out salted instead for sugared, twice.
The thanksgiving turkey dinner offering is not as good as it was compared to the last 2 years. The website says that it’s roasted turkey breast dinner, but only one of four people in our table got white breast meat. The other 3, got dark meat mostly. My mother-in-law says her plate did not get any gravy, and that the mashed potato was cold. Two people in our party did not get their plates and silverware, we had to ask twice. It seems that only one person took care of all the tables on the entire floor on thanksgiving dinner. She is nice, but I think there should have been at least 2 people on the floor.
We visited for the first time for Thanksgiving and we’re seated in the back room where there’s not only no view but the glasses oh Paik so you can’t even see outside. The food was all over cooked we had crab oysters and halibut the saving grace I guess was the service our server was fantastic I don’t remember her name but she was really good. Overall we probably won’t return it’s pricey for what you get especially if you don’t even have a view
We were initially seated outside with a cold draft in spite of the heat lamps and quite far from the bathroom. One of our party is wheelchair bound and that was very inconvenient. However, we were reseated in a spacious booth near a window with beautiful views and the rest of our time there was lovely. The service was excellent. Our server was so kind, accommodating and efficient. He did a great job. The food was wonderful, as well.
