The Darling Oyster Bar
Anchoring The Darling Oyster Bar is a stunning raw bar showcasing fresh, made-to-order seafood. Guests can enjoy the lively raw bar scene while overlooking historic King Street from The Darling’s iconic storefront. The Darling raw bar also offers full service dining.
Located in the heart of Upper King Street, The Darling Oyster Bar is housed in a 115-year old historic building that enjoys a storied past. A mix of the original 1900’s reclaimed wood, whole exposed brick walls, classic tile, antique molding, and nautical theme combine to create a setting that is all at once convivial, charming, and comfortable.
Great place for oysters. The oysters were excellent. The crab legs were tiny. My girlfriend got the catch of the day and had to use steak knife to cut it up. We got there early but they had a waiting line to the bar so it’s hard to grab a cocktail prior to your meal here too.
Excellent as always
Great food. Pretty restaurant and happy hour also good
Cole was the best waiter! Really good food too!!
Our waitress Danessa was amazing!! The food was so fresh, delicious and just what you would expect. 5-star experience!
Service was great as well as the tower of assorted seafood!
Very fresh and delicious food , well represented. Great service
Seated right away and our server was very helpful with the menu. The food was delicious and they had some great drinks too.
The Darling is always a highlight of a stay in Charleston.
Excellent food reasonably priced and our server felt like he was part of the family! One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had!
Eli was a great waiter. Seared scallop dish was amazing.
Food/Service very good. BUT, I had a reservation, it was my daughters graduation AND I arrived 30 minutes early - was still sat at a terrible table. When I take my daughter out to eat at her favorite restaurant for a such a special occasion, I want her to feel like she's actually in that restaurant. Instead we were sat in dark area, cut off from the actual dining room. Our views consisted of watching the waitstaff walking to/from the actual dining room, the hostess stand and two walls (no windows). The main dining area is bright and open with large windows for people watching on famous King Street.
Won't go back unless there is some guarantee we'll get a decent table.
I am glad to hear that your food and service were very good! We use our main dining room and our lounge to seat our reservations and do our best to accommodate any seating preferences noted on reservations or brought up when seated. While we can usually move around reservations, we have a finite number of tables in our main dining room and often they are all seated. I would be happy to add a note to your OpenTable reservation that you would prefer the Main Dining Room in our establishment.
Somewhat pricey but to be expected. The ceviche was outstanding. Shrimp and grits were slightly disappointing, but great happy hours specials.
I was in Charleston celebrating my birthday. I booked a reservation at The Darling Oyster Bar for dinner because I heard so many great comments from people about the food and vibe there. I just had to try the fresh oysters and King crab legs. Both were so good! They were meaty and full of flavor. The people who sat next to me raved about their mussels and lobster/crab roll too! I can’t wait to visit Charleston again and dine at this beautiful restaurant.
Wonderful service as usual, seafood platter and hushpuppies are our every time order and the seafood was fresh, perfectly cooked and love the hot sauce...Disappointed to hear they may stop their social distancing as allowed but the night we were there was slow and I felt safe
Crab cakes fab but served on very cold plate. Sent back twice to get hot crab cakes on hot plate with the bits on the side. Plates, we learned, are prepared before and sit in fridge then they throw hot grilled crab cakes on top. Not optimal!! Crab cakes were excellent on round three!!!
This place is fantastic. We love coming here. The food is always great, especially the oysters. We cannot come to Charleston without a stop at the Darling.
We had shellfish - oysters, crab legs and shrimp - delicious. Fresh and well prepared. Waiter was friendly and helpful.
I would have given this restaurant more stars but for our waitress. First, her mask kept slipping below her nose and was not fit to her face. Management should have noticed & addressed that with her. She told us the Jamestown oysters were large, which we knew was untrue, but we went with her recommendation for another oyster, only to realize that she wanted to pad her tip...the oysters she recommended were double the price. Blue crab eggs Benedict was very tasty. Cocktails very nice as well. When we received our bill, she had charged us double for the oysters. We asked her to remove the duplicate charge...she didn't apologize, just said, "OH, ok...I'll take that off". We paid and lingered for about 15 minutes while we finished our drinks. She did what no wait staff should ever do. She came over and took the bill from our table. Guess she then noticed we did not give her 20%. We are normally generous tippers. Not this time. She needs some training. Food was very good though.
What a great place! Had amazing food. Everything so fresh. Great service.
Excellent seafood and service in a nice historic building in Charleston.
Our server was amazing.
Wonderful meal and great service by Lauren! Raw NC oysters were on point! Make it for Happy Hour for the Basil Daisy on draft. First time and it won’t be the last.
Beautiful restaurant, easy to get in and out, service was top notch and the shrimp cocktail was fresh and spicy. We opted to split fried oysters and shrimp, they were excellent with the exception of a few over salty oysters.
They have a burger on their menu but no yellow mustard available as a condiment.
Celebrated my husband’s birthday and received exceptional service from Chris, plus a free dessert with candle! All the servers for very polite and took every precaution due to Covid, which included tables separated six feet or more. The happy hour is awesome!
We sat in the lounge so it was a bit quieter and allowed more conversation. All the food was great. Recommend taking their guidance on the best oysters of the day.
Excellent food and service. Always a great dining experience.
We love the darling! Keeps us coming back for more!
It was a really great place. Very Nice Server. And very good food.
Best bloody mary’s!
The best oysters in Charleston!!!! Service is impeccable!
Went here for girls nigh
oysters were fresh and good , nice ambiance , i would recommend .
Great place to stop in. Didn't have dinner, but shared some snacks and everything was great. The building is really cool and has a great vibe!
Light airy room, friendly Attentive staff and excellent food
Honestly my new favorite place to eat in Charleston! The staff was very nice and knowledgeable, and the food was incredible! Also vegetarian friendly- my boyfriend loves seafood, I love veggies, and we both found wonderful things to eat!
My fiance and I had a wonderful birthday dinner with great food and exceptional service. The entire staff worked well together as a team, making this one of our best dining experiences. Thank you!
Very disappointed in my last visit after being there a few times before. Set in the lounge part of the restaurant which was very loud.
I'm so sorry to hear that your experience was less than stellar. We use our our main dining room, lounge, and high top tables for reservations. Especially now with restricted capacities, we are using every area of our restaurant to its fullest extent. We do our best to accommodate any seating requests and work with reservations regarding preferences we are aware of. I encourage you to note a main dining room seating request on future reservations.
My husband and I have made it a tradition to visit the The Darling every time we're in town. Normally we go for brunch and the Captain Bloody Mary (HIGHLY RECOMMEND), however this year we opted to dine in for dinner. It was just as delicious as brunch! If you're a seafood/raw bar lover, this is the spot for you!
