The Darling Oyster Bar
Anchoring The Darling Oyster Bar is a stunning raw bar showcasing fresh, made-to-order seafood. Guests can enjoy the lively raw bar scene while overlooking historic King Street from The Darling’s iconic storefront. The Darling raw bar also offers full service dining.
Located in the heart of Upper King Street, The Darling Oyster Bar is housed in a 115-year old historic building that enjoys a storied past. A mix of the original 1900’s reclaimed wood, whole exposed brick walls, classic tile, antique molding, and nautical theme combine to create a setting that is all at once convivial, charming, and comfortable.
Absolutely divine. First trip to Charleston and I highly recommend you dine here on your trip.
Everything we had was absolutely delicious! Will be back!
We had an amazing experience. Being from out of town, we were really excited for the bloody Mary’s but they only have them on Sundays. We were bummed but everything from the raw bar was delicious!
This place was great, especially for a date night or girls night out. I was only disappointed that our reservation was at 9:45. We didn’t mind the late hour, but upon arrival found out the restaurant closed at 10 PM. We felt awful for being there past close and the kitchen closed before we were able to put in a food order. The raw bar luckily stayed open a few minutes past ten and we were able to order oysters which were delicious but still wish we were able to enjoy the full menu!
Food was good. However, Oysters were not shucked well, still attached to shell, wait staff doesn’t seem well-trained on menu items. Music was sort of a punk rock- meets folk train wreck. For these reasons, it is unlikely we’ll eat here again.
The restaurant is stunningly beautiful and the key lime pie is the best I’ve ever had! Our server was fantastic. I highly recommend.
Excellent local spot with lots of character! If you like raw bars this is one to see for sure. The service is great and the oyster selection is great. Happy Hour house punch is a must try! The bar is beautiful too. Definitely add this to your list when you visit Charleston!
One of our favorite places to eat when in Charleston. The baked oysters are our favorite and I have yet to find another place that can make a Paloma as delicious as The Darling Oyster Bar. Can’t wait to go back!
Service was amazing. Friendly and conversational staff.
The kitchen really needs to get their act together; 3 of the 4 meals came out cold. We only sent back 2, as the 3rd person did not want to wait to have their food re-prepared. Coordinating meals is "Food 101", so to send out cold food on a Friday night in Charleston spells disaster. The waitress also should have noticed that this was not right. In fairness, the Oysters were good.
There are way better choices in this wonderful food city!
Amazing and outstanding! This is my 4th time and I have had nothing but out of this world food! My favorite is their French Fry with Clam Chowder app! Don’t forget to try their Fish Punch! Oysters were delicious and their Lobster roll is the BEST I have ever had!!
Great seafood bar!
So delicious! Must get the lobster/crab roll! The oysters were delicious.
Great place with really great Seafood. And also the fried half chicken is delicious! The scallops are a must, the tuna and the sevice just wonderful!
Whenever back in Charleston, this place is on my ‘must do‘ list.
Lively waiter and delicious food
Our first time at the restaurant and I enjoyed every moment the wait staff started out with champagne for our anniversary and they wished us Happy anniversary on entry great experience I'm going back for brunch on Sunday!!!
Would prefer more options of West coast and New England oysters. Hush puppies dry and powdery. Good service and Scallops were excellent.
Thank you for taking the time to write in with a review. We take feedback such as this seriously and will share it with our kitchen team in order to improve guest satisfaction and cuisine options.
Went for my sons 10th birthday and had family visiting from out of town. The service was great and the food was wonderful. This was my second time eating at The Darling and definitely won’t be the last!
Noisy and busy. Very good oysters and overall quality of food.
Terrific food- Shrimp and Grits to die for. Excellent service. We had an extra person join us and they were able to accommodate us.
The food and the staff were wonderful. It’s got a modern vibe with a traditional flare
Loved the service and the ambiance - and the variety of oysters was incredible!! The waitress was very knowledgeable about the varied oysters and helped us choose. We were not disappointed!
Local oysters were great. Service & atmosphere were upscale, but prices were reasonable.
Excellent oysters, as expected. Ample menu. Attentive service. Good experience.
Attentive, friendly service and great food. This is my second visit and will come back. The shrimp creole is so yummy!
As for the food it was probably the worse meal I have ever had in a restaurant. My father ordered a beer and they just handed him the bottle. Did not offer him a glass. For bloody marys we had to ask for limes.
Bad meal on our last day in Charleston. It was very disapointing.
Thank you for the honest feedback and review. We take reviews such as this one seriously because it allows us to improve upon the areas of service where we have failed. I will discuss service standards with my team.
Booked this last minute for a 9 o’clock reservation. The food here is awesome. They had multiple oyster options. Mussels, scallops, and king crab legs were very good. Good old fashion drink. I was expecting it to be loud but was surprised and happy it wasn’t very loud. It made it more relaxing to sit there. Highly recommend.
Great oysters! Seating was practically in doorway of restaurant and service was extremely slow and difficult to get basic silverware, drinks & food items.
Thank you for the honest feedback and review. We take reviews such as this one seriously because it allows us to improve upon the areas of service where we have failed. I will work on prompt and efficient serving standards with my team.
Excellent food with lackluster service. Service would have been fine at a low end restaurant, but definitely not the caliber expected for a high end place. Waiter was inattentive and generally disinterested in us. Ran through the menu at breakneck speed without pausing even though we clearly had elderly people in our group who were having trouble keeping up. No member of the waitstaff smiled or seemed happy. Maybe something bad happened that night.
Super food. Our server Sara was great. She also gave us a list of things to do why we visited Charleston.
Incredible service and great food. A reservation on weekend is a must.
Amazing place. My wife and I loved it!!
The best seafood in Charleston. Happy hour before 7pm had dollar oysters that were phenomenal. Noise level was a bit loud but the seafood pasta and the fry basket made up for it by far. Awesome dining experience.
Great food and great service! Thank you darling for a great meal
This was my first time in, my experience was excellent, the food was great and the service was excellent and we will definitely come back again, the next time I will bring others to enjoy your food and service.
Laura was my waitress and she was very friendly and she did an awesome job.
We loved The Darling and the excellent service! We will return as soon as we can!
This was our third visit to Darling and once again did not disappoint. Our server Sarah was amazing, very attentive and professional. Lobster roll is incredible and craft cocktails are just as good. Love the atmosphere and buzz in this place. Definitely will return!
Sat at the bar for the happy hour $1 oyster special. Oysters and cocktails were really great. Bartender was miserable. Female bar back was very pleasant and sweet!
Amazing food, service, and ambiance.
Waitress wasn’t very service oriented
