The Daily Planet Ratings and Reviews
The food was cold, the service was extremely slow, the food was mushy and flavorless (I don't know who's oven the Brussels sprouts were roasted in), and sadly my attempt to surprise my wife for her birthday failed because of the dinner with the experience and food.
I was impressed. I didn't know what to expect going to The Daily Planet. I loved the ambiance and the decor was gorgeous. Lots of copper and eclectic fixtures. The menu items ranged from beef, chicken, seafood, to vegetarian as I expected. The alcohol varied greatly which pleased me as well. I ended up getting a Korean BBQ Duck leg. It was quite delectable. I will definitely be going back again as I enjoyed the atmosphere. It was a little loud near the end of my meal but nothing I couldn't deal with.
Love the Daily Planet and I continue to go there every time I am in Burlington, because the food and ambiance is perfect -------even though they are notoriously slow when it come to table service. I cant tell if its by design or if they are short handed, but I wish they would turn it up slightly ----probably a NY lack of patience on my part. Still love it there.
We were seated and promptly received our drink order. Once our drinks were on the table we placed our order for starters and entree's. We reminded the server after 50 minutes that we still had not received our starters, and she said they would be there shortly. After an hour we received our starters and our main course arrived 35 minutes later. I could understand if the kitchen was slammed, but those seated around us, many of whom were seated after we placed our order, were being served their meals while we waited. The server did deduct 50% off the cost of 2 appetizers and 1 bowl of soup but that wasn't enough to get us to return.
The Daily Planet was a delightful, fairly casual dinner spot. As two vegetarians, we found there to be adequate variety on the menu, and it was tasty as well. The Campfire Brownie Sundae dessert was creative and very delicious! Our server was very friendly and helpful, although the service on this Saturday evening was slow. The restaurant itself was very cozy and comfortable. I would definitely eat here again and recommend it to others.
I have eaten here before and always enjoy it.
I came up with friends from Boston for an Art show . We were running late and they moved my reservation no problem. The scallops I had were perfect. The wine was great. I recommended the place to my well traveled friends and they said "good choice"
Went to the daily planet We got seated right away The service was OK but we had about 3 to 4 different people coming to our table This servers seemed a little confused However the food was delicious Perfectly cook swordfish We also had tapas The Ahi tuna taco was excellent And the Oyster's green eggs and ham with pork belly was out of this world Prices were reasonable and will come back again when in town
The food was amazing! Everything was interesting and delicious. It was our anniversary and The Daily Planet was the perfect choice. The room was cozy and inviting. The only down side was the service. The host was friendly and helpful but both of our waiter/waitress were rushed and uninterested.
Enjoyed the option of having a small or a large plate. I don't like enormous meals but enjoy eating out. Lobster chowder was very good as was the salad. Ahi tuna tacos good but I didn't like the hard shells. Possible to have a conversation without yelling. Not super upscale, good for a meal after a movie.
We visited Daily Planet on a busy Columbus Day Saturday. The table we had reserved still had not turned, so they offered to seat us in the bar and offered a complementary drink for the trouble. We had eaten here a couple of years ago, and I had forgotten how good the food and drink are. We had a selection of dishes from the snacks, salads, and mains and all were creative and delicious. I love the option of a small or large version of the main dishes. Don't miss the polenta fries and Brussels sprouts!
This is our 2nd time at the Daily Planet. We both really want to like dining there- the space is so great, we enjoy sharing small plates & it's been around BTV for eons. Unfortunately, both times dining there for dinner left us feeling underwhelmed and like the plates were only 75% of what they had the potential to be. The sea scallops were cooked perfectly but were unfortunately over seasoned, chicken curry egg rolls were in real need of some veggies (and color on the plate!) tuna sushi tacos needed some pickled ginger & some wasabi to kick it up a notch and tie it all together. Our server also left us feeling really rushed, even when we asked for time making choices btwn courses. It seemed she was more invested in turning her table & getting us out the door versus allowing to relax & enjoy our dining experience.
On the last night of our vacation in Burlington we visited the Daily Planet. Full disclosure - it was a Saturday night and we wanted the security of a reservation and the Daily Planet was one place of a few with available reservations. But we had walked by it before and thought it looked fun so we were happy to make a 7:15 reservation. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. We asked for and were seated in their outdoor space which has about 10 tables. Our waitress seemed to be covering that whole space and she did an admirable job keeping up. I had the caramelized scallops with blackberry bacon jam (please increase the amount of jam Daily Planet) and the duck frisee salad. Both were tasty. My husband had the duck poutine and sliders. They do have the small plate trend going on which is my least favorite trend but the waitress was helpful and honest about sizes. Overall a tasty option in Burlington.
