The Daily Catch Seaport Ratings and Reviews
Had a nice birthday dinner with my family here. The seafood selection and quality was good but did not blow me away like some other Boston seafood spots (e.g., Island Creek), but I was glad to see local fish offered. I appreciated the variety of Sicilian wines to pair with food. Our server was nice but seemed fairly inexperienced.
We have been here several times over the summer but this was a rare treat in mid October to be able to eat outside. We met friends visiting from Colorado and wanted to share the waterfront.
We felt the food wasn’t as fresh this time as in the past and a bit more greasy.
Hope it was an exception.
It was my first time dining with the Daily Catch the other day for lunch. Prior to that, most of my experience with the restaurant has been enjoying the outdoor bar during the summertime. Suffice to say that the dining experience isn't this restaurants forte. The indoor seating arrangement is limited, however, that wasn't an issue because the restaurant was empty for lunch. That said, due to the lack of patrons, the service was atrocious. Our waiter didn't hand us menus or silverware upon being seated. Rather, he disappeared for about 10 minutes into the kitchen area. We ended up getting our own menus and silverware, and I flagged him down afterwards to place our order.
As for the food, it was mediocre at best. I had a salad and added grilled shrimp (approximately two shrimp). Overall, I wasn't impressed with my meal or the service. From now on, I'm just going to stick to drinking at their outdoor bar.
Amazing food and great service. Went their with my husband and high school kids and picked up our oldest recent college graduate living in Southie. Great last minute dinner idea and everyone had something they loved (and some of my kids dont eat seafood). Loved it
Good came out over a period of 40 minutes. Side dishes had to be requested multiple times....last one came out about the same time as the bill.
Food was delicious and the waterfront dining is beautiful.
Just a shame we couldn't actually have our dinner together and won't be coming back.
We went there for a water view
We were seated shoved into a table next to a wall
We had no view
It was so hard to see the menu so we had to use our phone lights to see the menu
Server was slow , forgot our water , forgot my drink
Our table had no salt pepper etc
Waiter brought us a double salad thT we did not order
Meals were good
My drink was terrible
You can't get just a plain martini they have "special" ones
No spoon for the pasta had to ask for cheese
Waiter needs more training in people skills
And serving training
We had a great outdoor seat facing the harbor and city. The food was delicious. I had the broiled swordfish and my husband had the monk marsala with black pasta. He loved it and I had a taste and it was very good. My only complaint was that our waitress put our dinner order in too fast and our food and bottle of wine were delivered while we were still sipping our cocktails.
Restaurant got great write up but was nothing special. The reservation was honored and we walked right in. Food was nothing special, $8 garlic bread was tasteless and took 20 minutes to be delivered.
Lobster fra Diablo was not spicy at all
In all it was disappointing
Sadly the restaurant was in need of a good cleaning.... we did have an outside table with a lovely view which was what I requested however, the hostess made no mention of that or that we were there to celebrate our anniversary of 34 years.
Though our waitress was nice we waited a good 10 minutes before even getting a glass of water and then another 5 for placing a drink order....It was not busy at all.... at 5 pm on a Sunday afternoon. The shrimp scampi app was enjoyable..... bread was standard.... nothing special.... nor was the pasta.... and not even a cookie offered in celebration .....
Early in our marriage we often ate at the Brookline location this was no where in that league!
Terrible dining experience. We weren't offered outdoor seating and were seated inside. Dining area looked dirty with grease smudges on wall mirrors. The air inside was cloudy with grease particles due to poor ventilation system. It took ten minutes for server to come to table and take a drink order. No brand name liquor on bar menu.
Found a seven inch long hair in my salad. Walked out immediately.
Poor service. Dirty dining room. Dirty kitchen.
Heaven is sitting outside at the Daily Catch during summer, watching the boats and the sky, and staying until after sunset, eating delicious seafood and enjoying the glorious view.
You definitely do not want to miss the squid ink pasta. The swordfish and mixed vegetables is a terrific dish. I would have enjoyed more vegetables, but the portions were not oversized and that is also good. The citrus salad was absolutely great!
We arrived early planning to have drinks at the outdoor waterfront bar before dining inside. This was the only disappointment, as the bar does not serve any brown spirits (bourbon, scotch, etc.) so the drink choices are somewhat limited. The meal, however, was excellent. They did miss one of our party's order in the kitchen but brought out a plate of fried calamari on the house while he was waiting for his order to arrive. We agreed we would return for the food, if not the bar service.
We enjoyed dining at The Daily Catch with our adult children, celebrating my husband's Birthday. Seating was perfect with a view of waterfront. We were able to watch boats going by.
Service was very good and fast. Food was delicious including the gluten free options.
It was nice to take a walk by the ocean afterwords.
This was our third dining experience here. It had been over a year since our last time. It was alway ok - nothing over the top but just ok. I chose it for its location at the seaport on a beautiful summer evening. Italian/seafood seemed like a great idea.
The mussels appetizer was very good - however, they ran out of regular Italian bread!!! Their Seafood red sauce is lacking, again, just ok. They have very limited options - NO regular marinara. I ordered the Balsamic reduction with swordfish. It's sounded good. The dish came- it was swimming in black balsamic- so much so that I couldn't see the swordfish let alone taste it! Very disappointing!! I couldn't eat it. And I LOVE anything vinegar and fish. Calamari meatballs were again just ok. Will never return.
We wanted waterfront seafood and the menu here looked good, particularly the squid ink pasta.
Had a great outside table beside the harbor walk with a terrific view. The lobster fa diavalo for two was made with the black pasta and it was delicious. We enjoyed ours with an Italian wine that was new to us and were still dipping bread in the "gravy" afterwards.
Sure, it's loud but we've found every Boston restaurant to be loud. People here have no concept of the inside voice but that's no fault of the restaurant.
Overall a great experience, thanks Daily Catch!
We went for lunch Saturday. We were seated at a table outdoors that had a great view of Boston Harbor. We thought at first, that it was too dark, but it turned out very pleasant. I had the seafood fra diavlio special. Fantastic! My wife had the broiled scallops in a garlic butter sauce. Excellent too. We had clams casino for an appetizer. They were a little runny, and could have been cooked more, but had whole clams.
The service was outstanding. Our waitress was named Kara, and if you go there, I recommend requesting her. Attentive, cheerful, and quick.
The only thing that made this experience okay was our great waiter and water view otherwise the food was not edible. Our swordfish was completely raw as if it was ahi tuna. The scallops I ordered came with mix vegetables which consisted of sautéed peppers, onions and squash but the side veggies were a small portion and over cooked /used from the night earlier and our mussels app was terrible and the mussels were all closed and under cooked. Save yourself the money and don't eat here
This was our first time at this restaurant. We had a lovely water view that made the whole evening special. The grilled fish was terrific - perfectly well done. If you'd like a quieter experience, ask to be seated near the outside edges of the outdoor dining area.
The food and service were absolutely terrible. I'm so disappointed that the evening was a such a disaster. I had been here once before, and it was a fine experience, but this was absolutely outrageous. The kitchen overcooked/ruined calimari, steak, and even managed to screw up the pasta dish we ordered. How do you even do that? Pasta is absurdly simple, but thus was mushy and still swimming in water (not sauce or oil, thus was water) at the bottom of the pan. The service was so slow/absentee that our plates were cold and congealed by the time our waitress brought them out, but we were so hungry, we picked through and ate what we could out of fear for having to sit there another hour. We had arrived while the place was pretty empty, and while we waited, every table around us was seated, given an appetizer, and we're working on their main dishes before our food ever arrived. They forgot to put silverware and bread at our table, so we went and got some ourselves. Even the coffees we ordered for dessert had cooled off by the time they were finally brought to our table. There were plenty of waitstaff around the place, but they were mostly loitering by the hostess's stand or inside, by the kitchen and hidden from the outdoor customets. What an embarrassing farce this whole situation was. The Daily Catch should be ashamed of the complete incompetence of its kitchen and waitstaff.
