The Cup Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Had planned to meet friends for dinner for a birthday celebration, didn't realize there was a benefit going on and it was brutally noisy and really disrupted our meal. I wish we had known when we made reservations that there was an event going on, our heads were ringing by the time we got home. but our waitress was incredible and made up for it with her great service. The food was incredible the bacon crusted steak special they had was one of the better steaks I've ever had.
Tasty food in a fun and historic setting inside the Hotel Congress. Ordered a Mai Tai...not sure what I got - definitely not like any Mai Tai I'd had before - but still a tasty concoction and reasonably priced. Friendly and attentive staff. Small bathroom. A delightful experience overall and I'd definitely return!
This was our first time but it won’t be our last. Service was great, server was very attentive and the food was amazing, servings were generous. We sat outdoors and enjoyed the live music. I ordered a margarita (had originally ordered a Mojito but the bartender was unable to make it) which I almost sent back but decided against it. There was no salted rim, it was served in a tall glass vs a margarita glass, not blended and tasted blah. My suggestion: Go for the food and live music, avoid the bar.
Great happy hour and awesome fish/chips! Just a couple of things could have made the night a little better however. Our dinner arrived, our wine was gone and so was our server. The disappearance coincided with the last 15 min of happy hour, perhaps a coincidence, the restaurant was not busy so it was a tad annoying. The music was very loud and made any conversation difficult. We love the Cup and outdoor dining this time of year is outstanding.
We have eaten here before for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and the food was good-nothing special but fine. I think there may be a new chef there now as both my husband's meal and mine were poor. He had the salmon. I don't eat fish so can't comment on that, but he was not overjoyed. I had the beef bourguignon which tasted like a bad, tasteless beef stew with no vegetables. The portions were very small for the cost, but in the case of the beef dish, just as well! Won't be going back.
I am a local patron who visits the Hotel Congress often for their Happy Hour but not a frequent diner at the Cup Cafe. Their service is excellent and the ambience is as good as any in Tucson. The menu has evolved a lot since their sister location Maynards opened across the street but it has finally settled upon offerings which are both tasty and well prepared. I consider the Hotel Congress the epicenter of Tucson's downtown scene for music & the Hotel rooms are really cool and affordable if a bit noisy on weekends due to bands playing after midnight.
It was a good evening with 6 friends before a concert at The Rialto. Our waiter was very responsive and honored happy hour since we were seated before 7 pm. The only complaint was the fish & chips were a bit too bready and the French fries not quite hot. We love the cup for its authenticity and casual feel.
Service was excellent. Hate feeling rushed and that didn't happen here. Server was attentive, pleasant and professional. Calamari appetizer was great, fries with fish and chips were not crisp. A little too much batter on fish, but at least not overlooked. Cocktails were original and during happy hour, half price. Will go back.
My husband and I had dinner at The Cup recently to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our first date—which was at The Cup. We told the story to our delightful server and were touched when the bill came and management had comped our dessert. This is one of the reasons we come back—The Cup exemplifies the best of local businesses that care about their customers. Great food, terrific service, a cool vibe. We love it!
We had a wonderful early evening at The Cup Cafe at the Congress Hotel in Tucson. The menu is creative, yet approachable with dishes that people will recognize. The preparation and ingredients, though give every dish their uniqueness. I ordered a Caesar Salad and the calamari appetizer which was prepared with a kick of local peppers. The setting is historic yet chic. The wall of "wisdom sayings" in the restaurant was intriguing. Foodies and history buffs will love this place!
Made reservations for dinner before HOCO music festival. First time eating at The Cup. We were seated promptly when we arrived. Our server, Sophia, was very pleasant and gave us excellent recommendations from the menu. Prices were reasonable and the food was excellent, well-prepared and flavorful. I recommend eating at The Cup. I will eat there again soon!
The Cup always seems to top itself! Great Tucson vibe with the lovely patio and music. I had the special which was a blackened halibut with a light pineapple rum sauce with asparagus. Amazing doesn't even describe it! The steak stroganoff my husband had was equally incredible. Great wine choices with local AZ wines featured. My go-to place when I want great food & great atmosphere. A downtown Tucson gem!
