The Crossing has been one of the very best restaurants in St. Louis for years. Food and service were top-rate, as always. One nice thing is that the atmosphere created by the staff is not at all "stuffy, attire is everything from dressy to nice casual. Our two teenage kids felt very comfortable. Complimentary valet parking, always a plus for downtown Clayton.
The lamb chops were exceptional (first bite an OMG food moment!). Others at our table had the standard fix price menu, 5 courses, a great deal at $35 with options all from the regular menu. The portions of the sides were a bit smaller than ala carte, but not by much. The entree and dessert portions were the same size as the regular menu portions. The trout was fantastic, best I've ever had. Everything was excellent. There are two other levels of the tasting menu ($50 & $80) --I'm sure the $80 Chef's Choice would be amazing.
Service--as an example, after I ordered a glass of wine, the wait person came back and said they were out of that wine, and gave me a different glass--a white burgundy, fantastic and definitely a more expensive wine. Also, it was our son's 16th birthday--they had a handwritten happy birthday card at the table when we arrived--nice touch!
Every course was phenomenal, fresh pasta, fresh bread, flavorful salad, amazing dessert.. We went back a second night because we couldn’t believe it was that good. It was.
Fabulous flavors, great wine selection and friendly excellent servers. Next time I’m in St. Louis going back to this restaurant is at the top of my list.
We could not discern whether the server was trying to be funny, or was just awfully rude. We were left at the end of the meal for a half an hour before we had to ask a bus boy to tell our server we needed our check. Some of the food was very good, some was was you'd expect to eat at a TGI Fridays. The chef came by and was incredibly friendly, down to earth and helpful in meal selection.
Everything was elegant and delicious and was not pretentious. It was perfect for a birthday dinner. The service was excellent.
Took my wife for her birthday. When booking the reservation online, I was asked if it was for a special occasion. I selected "birthday" and filled in my wife's name. Upon being seated, there was a birthday card at the table. The services was absolutely top-notch. The wait staff was really on top of everything, without once being a burden. Dishes were cleared quickly after being finished, and our drinks were always full.
Prior to having our starters and entrees, my wife and I devoured the complimentary Bleu Chees Souffle (and a second one). My wife had lamb, and I had the beef tenderloin. Both were outstanding. I would recommend The Crossing, without even a hint of hesitation, to anyone that is looking for a restaurant in the area.
If you like food try this restaurant, you won't be disappointed. The staff is friendly, Gus is spot on with his service.
First the service was impeccably great. Very friendly and attentive waiter who really gave honest and excellent recommendations. The food was extraordinarily excellent. Very subtle tastes on every dish that was just right versus being overbearing. This was the first that my wife and had been there. We will comeback for certain. It was not cheap food but great food well worth the price.
Excellent food, excellent service and a generous 8 oz pour on the wine. The 2009 house Beaujolais was rich thick and plummy and worth the trip all by itself. Food cooked to perfection!
Outstanding food and wine pairings. Douglas always takes care of us.
Although the service and atmosphere was very good, I was disappointed in the food. I had not been to the restaurant for a number of years but remember it as outstanding but I did not have the same experience this time around. The presentation was very good but the dish was bland and everything tasted the same. I'm not sure why, but was disappointed. Thank you.
Did the tasting menu and it was incredible. Terrific wine selection
Food was bland and I felt rushed by the wait staff to turn the table over.
One of our favorites in St. Louis, you can always count in a great meal with excellent service.
This was simply an amazing meal FROM THE MOMENT WE SAT DOWN. We were brought a free bleu cheese soufflé that was delicious and not overly pungent. We did the tasting menu, which was fantastic. We got the beet salad, egg raviolo (essentially carbonara with a perfectly cooked/runny egg yolk inside), and scallops. Each dish was superb. I also got an old fashioned that was made with some sort of spice. It was fantastic. The boulevardier I also had was adequate, but if I had it to do over again, I'd have stuck with the old fashioned. The bread with salted butter was consistently filled. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.
This was our first time dining at The Crossing, and it did not disappoint! The wine list is literally a book. A book of wines. We opted to not drink, and indulged in their tasting menu. The tasting menu is the way to go -- we got to try 4 courses of items from the menu (just smaller portions), and were totally full by the end of it. Try the scallops! 10/10 will go again.
Second time here and it didn’t disappoint. Food across the board was phenomenal. Can’t go wrong with this place!
Excellent food and service
Wonderful Valentines menu. Jimmy and the entire team did a fabulous job. We had an incredible evening.
Excellent service and food
Always a favorite. Consistently solid across the board.
The Chef's tasting with wine pairing was the perfect way to celebrate Valentine's Day. Delicious.
The dish preparations were impeccable and our service was refreshingly friendly without any pretense. DO NOT let the Clayton location intimidate you. This is one of the best and most approachable dining experiences that you will encounter in St. Louis.
I went to The Crossing with work and it was to die for. The service, the food, the drinks...you name it - it was all outstanding. So my husband and I then had a double-date night there and again it was amazing. The specialty drinks, the food, the service. Healthy and fresh. Farm to table. Simply the best.
It was amazing
Another great dinner with friends at The Crossing. Service and food both excellent.
The food was amazing and so was the service! Zach was the best and will request him when we go back!
Consistently serves great food and superb service - that's why we keep coming back!
Tasting menu was outstanding. But, oddly, the coffee was bitter and the dessert was just average.
Always a great experience the owner Jim is one of the best chef/owner combos in the STL
Awesome food, excellent service. Some times in life you get what you pay for, at the Crossing you get it EVERY time.
3 of us celebrated 2 birthdays & they made an event of it. There was a note on the table & Kaylee, our server, mentioned straight away.
One had fixed menu which was varied and Delcious. Another had a nightly special they swooned over. All were thrilled with their selections. So much so that dessert was a must. It did not disappoint.
Will NOT be waiting for a birthday to return.
If you want to dine in an upscale restaurant that has great food and outstanding service, you can't beat the Crossing! The tasting menu provides excellent value. The flounder special was delicious and Gus, our server was attentive and made sure we were able to make a 7:30 show at the Fox.
Excellent service, food, ambiance, etc ... haven’t been since 2004 but will definitely be back!
Superb food and service and ambience
Lovely as usual
One of our favorite restaurants!! The food is always good so is the service!
Wonderful way to celebrate a special anniversary! We had a relaxing, highly pleasurable, European-syle dining experience. The woman who called to confirm our reservation was delightful. When we arrived, a card on the table signed by Mr. Fiala welcomed us and congratulated us on our anniversary, which was a nice touch. The server brought the (amazing-tasting) blue cheese souffle for a small starter when we arrived and didn't bring the menu until after we'd ordered drinks, which set the tone for a slow meal (exactly what we wanted). Food was amazing. I chose the premium tasting menu and enjoyed every bite. The presentation was gorgeous and heightened the enjoyment. My husband ordered a la cart; it was great for each of us to be able to choose whether or not to do the tasting menu. He was thrilled with his monkfish special. My salmon was cooked to perfection with the lightest crust. Service was attentive without being obtrusive. When dessert was done I felt pleasantly full, without being stuffed. The ambiance was nice. It's a small-ish space, cozy and pretty. It was a bit cold though (temperature-wise--I don't know if it's usually this way because we went on a very cold night in January). I ended up wearing my coat for some of dinner. No loud music, thank God. We could actually talk. The only annoying noise happened when some sort of machine (blender?) buzzed for a couple of minutes at the bar. Not perfection, but pretty close. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and were saying "why in the world did we wait so long to return" to The Crossing? We will definitely be back.
New Years Eve special 4-course menu. Wonderful choices and another exceptional Crossing meal. Service attentive without being intrusive. The efficient valet parking was much appreciated given cold weather.
Consistently good. The food is beautifully prepared and delicious and portions are just right
