We've been to The Cottage 4-5 times before, mainly to have burgers. This time we ordered entrees. Very disappointing. Chicken Picatta and Crab Cake. Not tasty, not interesting, and not hot. Also the server seemed a bit distracted and disorganized. Unlikely to go back soon.
Had a fun and leisurely 3 hour dinner. Closed the place down at 10:30pm because Wellesley and suburban Boston in general retires early in the evening (they turned off the tv and the music then). Food was delicious, but they ran out of the special I planned to order before 8pm.
would like the manager to call me as I was disappointed with a few things
Had lunch with five friends in a terrific round booth in a corner. The salads were excellent: Cobb with chicken salad, arugula with grilled chicken and the Caesar. The special—a tuna slider -was delicious. The floral unsweetened tea was not popular with our group. Our server was attentive but not intrusive. I was pleased that the noise level was moderate. I never go here for dinner because there can be too many boisterous and loud kids.
Have enjoyed other lunches and dinners here, but, other than noting my request for a quieter space and giving us a table in the back, dinner disappointed from start to finish. Wine choices lackluster, service slow and at times non-existent, food completely average...just not fun, and I am pretty darn easy to please, having worked in the past as a waiter/bartender/caterer/dining room manager. Not sure I'll be back anytime soon.
Family dinner with grown kids. Tortilla soup always good
I always enjoy my lunch get together with my friends while having lunch at the cottage. The lunch menu is quite good.
Tables were wiggly. Food came out undercooked and cold. Server was very slow getting us coffee for Sunday brunch. Omelet was very boring. Breakfast sandwich was lackluster. Won’t be going back.
The Cottage recently shut down for renovations and this was our first time visiting since they reopened. Unfortunately I was not impressed. All the beautiful art that used to grace their walls is gone and they put in these horrible black lights that don't look right. We sat at a low table and the chairs were really uncomfortable. We had a very nice waitress, who was very helpful with the menu. However, not one person in our party liked their food. We ordered the chicken caprese salad (very boring), fish tacos (also boring) and the impossible burger (tasted burnt and dry). We complained about the burger and the waitress took it off our bill, which was nice. However, the food was so mediocre overall that I don't think we will be going there again... too bad.
The cottage is always raucous and fun. Food is great and the ambience is pleasing. Don’t go here if you want peace and quiet as it’s always busy with fun crowds
High volume high bass disco drum music wrecked the experience for us and others. A full house of people screaming to be heard above the noise made it painfully deafening.
Good food and service, as always, with our 2- and 4-year-old kids and grandparents.
The food was delicious! It seemed that the lunch rush was either busier than they were staffed for, or our server had a section that wasn't near our corner booth. While we very much enjoyed the food it felt like we had to look around for our server on numerous occasions. She was very pleasant and knowledgeable. I would still be willing to come back again as I certainly understand that the lunch rush can be especially busy!
Lunch (Nicoise salad) okay - not outstanding. Waiter very nice but slow.
The food and atmosphere was very good, although the server dropped the ball! Our server kept us waiting over 30 minutes to place our order and never offered coffee and desert, just delivered our bill. The food was served promptly and was delicious! I have only gone twice, once before the renovation and once after, I would be willing to give it a try again... hopefully I have a better server.
It was my first visit and I was getting together with 3 of my family members. After a long drive from Cape Cod I came into the restaurant and was told that they were closed due to a drainage problem. I asked if the 3 other people had arrived. I was told yes so they seated me with my party. We spoke with the wait staff and didn't know whether to stay or leave. We were told that the kit hen was fine but there was no ladies room open but we could use Starbucks next store. We had all traveled a distance so we decided to stay. I put my coat on and went next door to use the ladies bathroom which was out of order. After a long wait I was able to use the men's room which was the only one available. The wait staff said that there were working on the problem but the bathroom still wasn't available over an hour later. I thought that this situation should have been handled differently. It certainly affected our family get together negatively.
It was a great experience for my friends and I to celebrate a birthday. Thank you!!
Modern yet homey. Light yet comforting. Friendly service.
Fish tacos were not very well executed. The restaurant was noisy and having high volume music did not help. At peak times the music volune could be turn down.
Was not impressed with hostess. Did not feel welcomed My frittata was sub par
Came with a 5 year old and this kids menu was awesome! I will come back.
This is a complete downhill since opening a few years ago. Uninventive, expensive and mediocre. I have been going here for 4 or more years and the food is deteriorating and becoming more expensive. Chopped salad had nothing interesting and the added price chicken was fair. The avocados with chicken salad looked like they were prepared days ago. The chicken caprese continues to be mediocre at best. Overcooked chicken, some few greens and barely any mozzarella. Frittata is usually ok. They no longer offer bread at the table (and when we asked at lunch they say only at dinner). But the service is very good and I hope the servers can find other positions when this closes.
Done with this.
I made a 1:30 reservation for 3 of us for Easter. I called you confirm on Thursday afternoon prior to our Sunday reservation. I specifically asked if there was a pre fix menu for Easter or the regular menu. The young woman on the phone said it would be a regular menu. I asked again about Easter. She obviously didn't know because we were only offered brunch or burgers. Extremely disappointing as I invited my elderly Mother who had to order a salad for Easter lunch. I love the cottage but would never go again on a holiday.
Incredibly uncomfortable seats. Poor service. V disappointing for an Easter Sunday breakfast.
Too noisy with a baby screaming at next table and parents not doing anything. Good food and service!
Best salads around - the southwest chopped was the choice this time. The goat cheese polenta appetizer was also outstanding.
I love this place and eat here often. I miss the turkey burger and hope it returns
Have eaten there twice now, and both times the service was exceptionally slow. Food is OK, but pricy. If you live in Wellesley, you may as well go. But it's not worth the trip from any other town.
Went for brunch (brunch options in the area are surprisingly hard to come by!). Nothing special but the menu was a bit limited. The waiter explained that this is done to keep the kitchen from getting too crazy because they do a lot of brunch business which is understandable. Still took about 45 minutes to get our food and an omelette came out cold. Would maybe try again for non brunch but again, nothing really nothing special.
We came at 1:00 on a Sunday and it was packed. There was only the brunch menu presented. Two of us got the “crispy” crab cake with poached egg. The crab cake was not crispy and the egg was hard boiled not poached. The noise level was very high.
Everyone’s brunch selection was delicious..
Most people had an omelette or French toast..
I had a delicious fried egg sandwich!
The Cottage got very loud and busy around noon!
Food was pleasant but not delicious, and it was on the cool side. It did not include bread or similar; on a Sunday brunch bread is necessary. The personnel were very pleasant, but missed a few details; and as they say, the devil is in the details. Maybe this was just a difficult day; so we will still keep going to brunch and hope for an improved experience.
I love The Cottage-the food is always delicious . This experience would have been reviewed higher but it wasn't great service. Our server was not the friendliest nor was the male server who brought over the items that were omitted after our meal was served. This included: salt and pepper, ketchup, scones that were supposed to come with our omelets and a side order of hash browns.
It was disappointing and our food did get a bit cold but I guess these things happen from time to time...
It was extremely loud and everyone at the table complained we couldn't hear one another speak
The food is always good but the noise level is terrible. Cannot have conversation. The new smaller booths and much fewer of them is a huge mistake. Very very noisy even at lunch. Terrible
I was really surprised by the downfall of this restaurant. I have been going here for years and always enjoy the meals here. The food portions were significantly smaller than usual ( all of ours) and still proved the same, if not more. Very disappointing.
My brother and I took my sister out to lunch for her birthday. The food was good but not outstanding.
I've been coming to The Cottage for years in both CA and in Wellesley. The renovation is lovely although no longer looks CA beachy, but still very, very pretty. Everyone was happy with their dishes except for me. I ordered the short rib and somehow it was inexplicably both very fatty and very dry. Usually short rib has a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness and this was more akin to overcooked day old pot roast. Sorry but I had to send it back. I will defintielt give The Cottage another chance but just order the cod. The table enjoyed the cod and I really missed out.
What a great server Zoe was. So attentive and made good suggestions. I will definitely lunch here more often
We really had great service from Max. That really contributed to the overall great experience
