My family was in town for a college event. This was our visit to the restaurant and we loved the food so much we went back for another meal during our 4 day weekend. The service is a little confusing. Lots of servers walking around unclear where food should be delivered but that didn't effect us too much. Try the lobster sandwich, chicken sandwich, salads, and Crab Cake Benedict. We were advised to order hamburger med well or it would arrive raw. Hamburger arrived totally burnt. We were in a hurry so we didn't complain but the other 2 sandwiches were much better.
Nice local casual restaurant. I recommend it.
The only thing that could have made it better is if the server had a smile.
My impression was that nobody really cared Service was not good, crab cakes were warm and soggy, order was screwed up. Coffee was good but you had to ask for a refill.
We hadn't been there for a while, since the renovations, but we very happy with the new decor and menu. We'll definitely be back.
Sat at table next to bussing station and was sprayed by water without much of an apology. It was a Saturday night, so I understand it is busy, but service was very slow. Food was okay.
Very disappointing Valentin’s day dinner. Had to wait 45 mins (7pm reservation) for a table. Service was slow and our server had no clue about drinks or specials for the night. We used to enjoy this place in the past. No longer. The only bright spot was the food, loved it. Would not come back until service improves.
Went for Valentines. Service was abysmal. Took over an hour to get a burger. The burger tasted like it had been under a heat lamp for the hour. I told the manager on the way out and she could have cared less. Note- drinks are watered down and oysters are smallest I’ve ever seen.
Waitress was a bit pushy - probably thought she was attentive but instead was overbearing.
Have dined here for lunch and dinner numerous occasions.
Food is very well plated. For a business conversation, too
noisy. Requested a booth via Open Table a couple of days
prior to meeting and it's first come, first serve. Not a place
for a quiet/private conversation.
Good lunch menu. Great server! Acoustics improved recently. Still a fan but wish it was even more acoustically friendly.
Service was excellent. Waitress worked with chef to get us a roasted veggie appetizer even thou not on the menu. Food was well prepared and tasty.
Service was very slow, which happens. But an inattentive server is unacceptable. The drinks we ordered before placing our food order arrived half way through our meal. A couple of extra items and condiments we asked for, never arrived. Have been here several times over the years, but the food and service are not worth the price anymore. Sad to say this, as we always liked The Cottage in the past.
The food was drenched in oil- appetizers and entrees. The fish was so overpowered with garlic you couldn’t taste the fish or any other seasoning. The dessert was mediocre. Service was VERY slow- we were there for almost 3 hours (most of our time was spent waiting for the bill at the end). Overall, it was not a fun experience. We will not be sad to never go back.
Love the new decor!! Food is wonderful, as always!!
Waitress was uninterested in helping us with choices since it was our first time. She said the menu was what was available for drinks when I asked if there were other choices. Asked if they had any other soups as a starter and she said all they had was one choice.
Very noisy and hard to have a good conversation.
I would go somewhere else if you are trying to have a “date night”.
There's really not that much to choose from in Wellesley, so this is definitely one of the strongest choices. Menu could use a bit of a re-do and daily specials.
This is the second year in a row I have made an reservation on open table for my daughters birthday. She lives in Brookline and we live in Framingham so it is the half-way mark for us both to drive during the week. Both times I made the reservation in the beginning of the week and both times asking for nice quiet booth and a slice of cake with a candle. This year I called about the quiet booth since I remembered last year. BOTH times we were put in a back room (last year it was next to a table of 20 guys celebrating). This year I flatly refused to be put int he back and all the booths were gone by 6:00. We took a hi-top table which turned out to be fine. We waited till the end to see about the slice of cake (we were hedging bets) and of course the waitress asked us if were were done and wanted to see the dessert menu. Why ask what special thing you want on open table if they do not read nor honor your request? Called the manager the next day to express my disappointment and she was lovely and extremely apologetic. I like the Cottage and will be back, but not for a special occasion.
They spent a lot of money to redecorate the place which is nice but same old menu which is pretty tired and awful all around.
Gave it another chance after the reno but think I am done with the cottage
I was looking forward to a special occasion dinner with my family but was disappointed. The service was extremely slow which would've been ok if the food had been spectacular but it wasn't. The last time I was here was 2 years ago (and I loved it), but my most recent meal was no where near as good as it used to be. The entrees looked like they had been left under the heat lamps too long. In fact, the server said they were waiting for the French fries and held up the rest of the entrees for that. As a result the food was dry, luke warm, and didn't look or taste fresh. My fish tacos were very dry. The one bright spot was the goat cheese stack appetizer. It would almost be worth going back to have that again. For the price, the food and service just wasn't worth it. I don't think I'll be going back which is too bad. This used to be such a great restaurant.
Service was terribly slow; Noise level was very high, but food quality was good.
The food is generally exceptional! I love the scones at breakfast and brunch. I also have enjoyed the meatloaf for dinner. On Sunday the service was welcoming and the food quite good. The only low point was that the Brioche French Toast was soggy and uncooked in some places. I was surprised. The portion is so large, however, that I ate around these bits and was still quite full.
Generally positive on the renovation. It seems noisier now (not good) but improved the restrooms, dining room and bar area. Same good food (and safe gluten-free options) and helpful staff.
The restaurant was so noisy that our ears were ringing. It was impossible to have a conversation with out everyone yelling.
Wanted to try the renovated restaurant. It looks good, but the quality of the food was very bad.
I was disappointed that this newly renovated restaurant still hasn't figured out how to address its acoustics (very very loud) problem. However, the food and service were excellent.
Food and service excellent as always. Like the new decor and highly recommend making reservations, i.e. Open Table
Beautiful restaurant and varied menu options! Delicious!
The Cottage is one of our regular places for multiple occasions - from a week night dinner to lunch to birthdays. Service is friendly and efficient and the food is reliably good. They recently redid the decor and I’m not a fan of the new look and chairs. But they kind of expanded the bar area which may lead to new options. Overall we recommend the Cottage.
Disappointing , we have been before and it was great. Not good this time. I guess everyone has a bad night
