I have been to the cottage many times. I find the one in Wellesley better than the one in chestnut hill. Our drinks were mediocre and inconsistent between the first and second ones. The nachos with lobster were excellent and a lot of food. The service was slow. It didn’t seem like they had enough people working.
Brunch lovely food very nice decor
Excellent food. Great service. What more could you ask
The cottage is a go to when we don’t feel like cooking a meal. Great food at responsible price.
The service wasn’t great. Very slow. The food was disappointing. Not bad, but not very good either.
Decent food. Bathrooms were a mess and service slow
Sadly a failure to properly wash lettuce or refrigerate burger meat resulted in 6-12 hours of upset stomach and related intestinal symptoms after dining there (and having the burger). Will not be returning anytime soon.
Our food was great - tasty and fresh. The prices were typical suburban lunch prices. The service, unfortunately, was poor. They got three of our items wrong, and they were not at all attentive during the meal.
It was disappointing. Server was not engaged with our table. We specifically asked for a sausage side not to be included on our plate, yet it was. Had to ask for water refills. When we quietly told her about a mouse in the dining room she said Oh really! No apology, No let me get my manager, absolutely nothing! Will not return to this restaurant.
I have eaten here before, but the facility is looking worn and dirty. Quality of food was fine, as expected. Restrooms were in disrepair and that was also the case several months ago. Service average. Waiter seemed preoccupied. Place needs a makeover.
I’m not sure what happened to this once lovely place in both appearance and food but our party was completely taken back. Both were poor. Are they selling? Having a hardship with now other establishments filling up the neighborhood? Whichever the case, it’s completely noticeable. Best of luck.
Ambience and service were great. Menu somewhat limited. I had the lobster sandwich with a side of grilled asparagus. A little too much mayo in the lobster sandwich for my taste but asparagus were great!
Very disappointing experience. Service and food was sub standard. We were seated at our table on time, but sat for 15 minutes before the hostess came back to our table to ask if a server had seen us yet, which had not occurred. The one time we saw our server, he was polite, but did not inform us of any specials, we heard them later when we overheard another table being told of them. The remainder of the service was very sub par. Our drinks (water and beverages were never refilled or were we asked if we would like another). Our main course was delivered with our appetizer. I ordered the fired chicken, my wife the brick chicken. Both were over cooked and served barely warm. The mash potatoes were runny and tasted very similar to instant/microwave potatoes. Lastly after our check was dropped off, we had to wait another 15 minutes for the server to return to pick it up. Lots of great dining options in this area, please avoid this place if you are looking for a good dining experience.
Accommodating to our group, which included elders in wheelchairs. So convenient to be able to make a reservation on a weekend. And the food is excellent--something for everyone!
Drinks and meal were excellent. We fish fry and lobster pasta, group of 3.
Would visit again.
Servers and front of the restaurant were so so .. cool disinterested, even tried to cheer them up ... no luck
There was hair in a bread roll. Ruined my appetite.
Lovely seared scallops to start. You can never go wrong with the mahi mahi fish tacos. The generous portion of 3 tacos is well-seasoned and delicious and the accompanying salsa perfectly compliments the dish. The autumn fruit and vegetable salad featured a divine poached pear, pepitas, squash and greens. I could have done without candied walnuts; I like them plain instead. It was delicious!
Be sure to keep a supply of the various chardonnays that you list on the menu. You were out of all of them on the night we were there. Otherwise, all was very good.
Food and service are OK - basically found the menu boring - none of it was bad just nothing special
All was very good. Had a wonderful time. We weren’t rushed at all
The avocado stuffed with tuna salad and chicken salad on a bed of quinoa and salad greens was one of the best salads I have ever eaten. I savored every bite..
I had Sunday Brunch at the Cottage. The menu was a little sparse but the options they did have were very good. I was pleased with the quality of the food and the taste of the coffee and the freshly squeezed OJ. The service was not ideal. The waiter was personable but was slow in bringing out the food and did not offer any re-fills of coffee.
I've been to the Cottage before and have always enjoyed it. I've enjoyed it because I have a gluten allergy and they're very accommodating to guests with gluten allergies.
Now, I also have a cilantro allergy but won't mention that unless its listed as an ingredient. I ordered the Cesar Salad (which I've never ordered from The Cottage before) and notice something particular to the taste. I find out that there is cilantro in the dressing. I tell one of the people in charge that night (I'm assuming the manager) that I'm allergic to cilantro and it makes my throat swell up. She did nothing-just said "oh sorry yes there's cilantro in the dressing." When she asked me why I didn't mention it to the waiter, I told her it was never listed as an ingredient on the menu. My husband had to run and get me benadryl because my throat was closing. Never was asked how I was doing or even compensated for my meal.
The food was quite good. Unfortunately, the server was not very attentive and did not seem very knowledgeable and was not on the ball. We also were in the side room, which was quieter, but it was also a little chilly by the windows. The Halibut, while expensive, was delicious. The chicken piccata was good - good have been more lemony. The desserts were great and the tuna poke was very good. Salads varied.
Greatly disappointed with our visit on Saturday night. Food was very mediocre, slightly better than standard diner quality. The restaurant also appeared to be greatly understaffed. I never write any reviews (this is my first) but wanted to warn everybody not to set expectations high with this particular location.
Met two old friends for lunch at The Cottage. Friendly service and great food!
I go there regularly when I want a good place to meet friends for lunch or dinner.
The food was outstanding. I go with. friend every few months, and we are impressed with the consistency of the food. My Bricj Chicken could not have been more delicious, as was her Chicken Picotta. The roles are perfect- and the service was very attentive. A real gem of a place. ps. Have the Brownie Fudge Sundae for dessert!
An off night? I am a huge fan of Cottage in Wellesley, and have previously had better experience at Chestnut Hill, but this evening was not their best. Service was very slow, there were errors, food was not up to their normal standard. But I will give them another chance at some point.
I had minimum expectations for the Cottage but was excited by our meal, and good service.
Will definitely go back, and I'm a local
We waited for over an hour for our eggs. Once it came we did enjoy it.
We went to The Cottage for Brunch on Sunday to celebrate a birthday. Everything was great. The food was excellent, the service was great and the atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. I would definitely recommend The Cottage at Chestnut Hill for Sunday Brunch.
We enjoyed this restaurant very much. The food was great - salmon, fish tacos, chicken and burger for our group. The service was excellent.
Very nice ambiance, great bar. A nice dinner without being stuffy or too formal.
Food quality is poor.
TheCottage is always consistent
Our server was absolutely out to lunch the entire time. In two hours our water was never refilled, we had to ask for bread that was served to every table and were told "it's in the oven." He had no idea that bread wasn't on the table. Every order had to be repeated three times. And when asking about ingredients for allergies, he never returned with any answers. Hard to recommend or even tip service like that.
The food was very good; some unique flavors and well prepared.
The service was slow; waiter had difficulty with English, also was a very "low talker" - did not engage in conversation. The food was slow coming form the kitchen - both for the appetizer course and the entrée. Our meals were not complex (appetizers, followed by entrée salad and sandwiches).
The restaurant was not busy, so not clear in why the turn time in the kitchen was so long. Plates were not cleared, refills on drinks needed to be requested.
Wellesley location has better food and service. This past Sunday here was just all around unpleasant.
Great casual upscale diner. Lighting and design were very comfortable. Like home. Staff very attentive. Menu was excellent with great choices.
Left very satisfied
only issue we had was that the appetizer came out at the same time as our meals. We sent back a meal because of this, and i just ate the appetizer as my meal. in the future, it's pretty obvious that appetizer should come out before the meal....
