I was very unimpressed with our waiter and my meal earlier this week. I ordered the Mahi Tacos for my main dish, which I usually love. But when I received the plate, I realized the salsa had a strange taste to it. I awaited for the waiter to come over to check on us, I even tried to get his attention quite a few times to tell him I wanted a different dish. But, he was too busy and never came over to us. He did not stop over until he realized we had been waiting a long time and wanted to check. At that point, he was in such a rush, I never got to tell him I didn't like my meal.

Honestly, it was a bit of a disappointment. My friend and I decided to go to The Cottage to celebrate our birthdays. I had been to The Cottage in Wellesley ages ago and she had been to the CH location once also some time ago. The atmosphere was nice but our waiter was terrible. And, it wasn't very busy at all. We were asked practically as soon as we sat down if we were ready to order; we weren't. Asked for water and were offered bread, which we accepted. Water came, no bread. I ordered the swordfish and was told they were out of it. I asked if they were out of anything else. Oh yes, we are out of this and this and this and this. So I chose my meal and ordered a class of wine. They didn't have the wine I ordered either. So I ordered something else. Asked for bread and received it. Our meals came. The food was good, not great. Waiter never came back until we were finished to ask how anything was or if we wanted another glass of wine. We ordered coffee with cream plus splenda for my friend. Coffee came with plastic stir sticks. No splenda. My friend asked again for her splenda. Nothing. He dropped off the check and I asked for more coffee and to bring my friend's splenda. Eventually back with a cup of coffee for me, splenda for my friend but at that point she had finished her coffee and didn't want more. Having been a waitress and been in the restaurant business, none of this was acceptable to me. We reluctantly left a 15% tip, usually I tip 20%, because it certainly wasn't his fault that they were out of items but he should have told us up front and he should have been more attentive.

We really enjoy the Wellesley location so decided to try this one. Really like the indoor ambience here much better, more open. The food in both locations is fresh and delicious! We were a party of 5 adults and were celebrating my birthday so were in a good mood and easy going. That made it easier to tolerate the substandard service - one waiter inattentive and very slow - long wait to get even the smallest of items (i.e. lemon for our water, water refills, order taking, etc.), the other co-waiter on target more or less, though he would bring double of things we didn't ask for. I don't believe that is a common experience at the Cottage, however.... Regardless, we will return and will recommend wholeheartedly! On next review hope to give a 5 star with expected excellent service....

Cute place but that’s the best I can say. They seem to be in need of a really good manager. My husband’s food was terrible. It was pork bolognase with literally no pork. He asked for spaghetti instead of the wide pasta, he was told no he could’t do that. Then someone in our party had spaghetti. Any decent restaurant would oblige that request. No one at the table was totally satisfied. We will never return.

Went for brunch for Easter, super busy as expected. The order was wrong, eggs scrambled and not fried as asked, when I mentioned to the lady when she brought over she said she maybe didn’t understand you “I’m Scottish and speak English jeez not a completely different language”. Husbands didn’t get the biscuit with his American breakfast, they didn’t bother giving kids strawberries with their French toast. The food was delicious when we eventually got to eat it (took a LONG time)
although warm not hot. Clearly not enough staff which was a shame as great place and nice place for brunch.

I was recommended to go to The Cottage by a friend. When I first walked in the hostess didn't greet me and was not very friendly. My friend and I thought it was a cute place and really liked the set up. The server was kind of slower and not very attentive. We ordered a couple of drinks and those were definitely yummy. We both got salads and they were really nothing to write home about. I got the Caesar with avocado dressing and chicken. They didn't put on the menu that some of the salads were priced as just starters, but also came in a dinner plate version for $5 more (the caesar being one of those salads). The dressing was bland and the chicken was dry. I am definitely not going back here and would not recommend it to a friend.

The food was not good. Both my entree and another’s at our table were over cooked and dry( fish tacos and swordfish). The service was very very very slow and the restaurant was not even close to full. This is the 2 Nd time we have had this type of experience. We will not try it again......

Sub-par cuisine and horrible service. 5 person table and brunch entrees came in rounds with 5 min between rounds of 2, 2, then 1. Eggs dishes got cold while we waited on a salad. Server was not apologetic and did not offer even a complementary drink for the wait.

I have lunch with a co-worker at The Cottage several times a year as it's convenient to our workplace, there's a nice variety of lunch items on the menu, and the food is always good. But service is always an issue, which can be a real problem at lunchtime when diners need to get back to work within a reasonable amount of time. Getting water glasses refilled in a timely manner is nearly always a problem. During our most recent lunch, when the restaurant was most uncharacteristically uncrowded due to mistaken predictions of a snowstorm for that day, the fire alarm sounded and all diners were asked to vacate the restaurant. Fortunately, my dining companion and I had both finished the hot part of our soup and salad lunches. We waited outside while the local fire officials and equipment arrived, determined the cause of the false alarm in the restaurant next door, and were finally allowed to re-enter The Cottage about 20 minutes later, whereupon my dining companion and I ate the second half of our lunches, and requested our check, as by now we were really needing to get back to work. Our check was brought immediately, but then our server disappeared for a very extended period of time until I finally had to bring payment up to the hostess counter to ask for our credit cards to be processed. This despite the fact that there were only a handful of diners remaining in the restaurant at that point.
Although I'm willing to put up with the poor service here given that I like the food, and my co-worker likes the restaurant, I will not be recommending The Cottage to anyone else until I see some indication that the service has improved.

I have been to the cottage many times. I find the one in Wellesley better than the one in chestnut hill. Our drinks were mediocre and inconsistent between the first and second ones. The nachos with lobster were excellent and a lot of food. The service was slow. It didn’t seem like they had enough people working.

Our food was great - tasty and fresh. The prices were typical suburban lunch prices. The service, unfortunately, was poor. They got three of our items wrong, and they were not at all attentive during the meal.

It was disappointing. Server was not engaged with our table. We specifically asked for a sausage side not to be included on our plate, yet it was. Had to ask for water refills. When we quietly told her about a mouse in the dining room she said Oh really! No apology, No let me get my manager, absolutely nothing! Will not return to this restaurant.

I have eaten here before, but the facility is looking worn and dirty. Quality of food was fine, as expected. Restrooms were in disrepair and that was also the case several months ago. Service average. Waiter seemed preoccupied. Place needs a makeover.

I’m not sure what happened to this once lovely place in both appearance and food but our party was completely taken back. Both were poor. Are they selling? Having a hardship with now other establishments filling up the neighborhood? Whichever the case, it’s completely noticeable. Best of luck.

Very disappointing experience. Service and food was sub standard. We were seated at our table on time, but sat for 15 minutes before the hostess came back to our table to ask if a server had seen us yet, which had not occurred. The one time we saw our server, he was polite, but did not inform us of any specials, we heard them later when we overheard another table being told of them. The remainder of the service was very sub par. Our drinks (water and beverages were never refilled or were we asked if we would like another). Our main course was delivered with our appetizer. I ordered the fired chicken, my wife the brick chicken. Both were over cooked and served barely warm. The mash potatoes were runny and tasted very similar to instant/microwave potatoes. Lastly after our check was dropped off, we had to wait another 15 minutes for the server to return to pick it up. Lots of great dining options in this area, please avoid this place if you are looking for a good dining experience.

Lovely seared scallops to start. You can never go wrong with the mahi mahi fish tacos. The generous portion of 3 tacos is well-seasoned and delicious and the accompanying salsa perfectly compliments the dish. The autumn fruit and vegetable salad featured a divine poached pear, pepitas, squash and greens. I could have done without candied walnuts; I like them plain instead. It was delicious!

I had Sunday Brunch at the Cottage. The menu was a little sparse but the options they did have were very good. I was pleased with the quality of the food and the taste of the coffee and the freshly squeezed OJ. The service was not ideal. The waiter was personable but was slow in bringing out the food and did not offer any re-fills of coffee.

I've been to the Cottage before and have always enjoyed it. I've enjoyed it because I have a gluten allergy and they're very accommodating to guests with gluten allergies.

Now, I also have a cilantro allergy but won't mention that unless its listed as an ingredient. I ordered the Cesar Salad (which I've never ordered from The Cottage before) and notice something particular to the taste. I find out that there is cilantro in the dressing. I tell one of the people in charge that night (I'm assuming the manager) that I'm allergic to cilantro and it makes my throat swell up. She did nothing-just said "oh sorry yes there's cilantro in the dressing." When she asked me why I didn't mention it to the waiter, I told her it was never listed as an ingredient on the menu. My husband had to run and get me benadryl because my throat was closing. Never was asked how I was doing or even compensated for my meal.

The food was quite good. Unfortunately, the server was not very attentive and did not seem very knowledgeable and was not on the ball. We also were in the side room, which was quieter, but it was also a little chilly by the windows. The Halibut, while expensive, was delicious. The chicken piccata was good - good have been more lemony. The desserts were great and the tuna poke was very good. Salads varied.
