This was our second time here, our first was awesome. This visit not so much. The service was excellent but the food was far below our expectations. At 5:30 pm they were out of Shrimp Tortellini, the mashed potatoes were very heavily salted and when it came time fir dessert we were told they were out of vanilla ice cream! They are located near a grocery store, go get some!!!! Bathroom out of TP and hand soap. Such a shame. It’s s pretty spot we won’t be back.
Really disappointing. Used to be such a great place. I won’t be going back
We made a reservations and we were seating quickly and met our server almost immediately. The food was great and we were not rushed in any way. We will certainly go back.
This was our first visit and we went for Saturday brunch. The server was friendly and very attentive. I had the lobster sandwich which was very good. My sister had the fish tacos, my wife had a salad , and my nice had a hamburger. Overall the food was good, but my niece and I were going to share an order of French Toast and it came out burnt. I told the server it was too burned and sent it back. The server said there was an issue with the grill, and he took it off the bill. However, the chef should know better than to send burnt food out to customers. We also got a brownie sundae and the chocolate soufflé cake. According to the menu description both were supposed to be served with hot fudge. Instead of hot fudge it had what seemed to be Hershey’s chocolate syrup. The chocolate soufflé cake was very good but putting a cheap chocolate sauce on it was like drizzling ketchup on a nice steak. I will give them another try, but I’ll will be sure to ask if they have hot fudge and if not, I’ll tell them no chocolate sauce on the desserts.
We typically go to the Cottage in Wellesley but were meeting friends for brunch recently and Chestnut Hill was a better meeting spot for all of us. The space is in desperate need of an overhaul. The cloth on the booths is stained and the leather is ripped in most spots. The bathroom was equally disgusting. The food was good, the service was slower than it should have been for an early Saturday brunch. Overall, it seems like either management is considering closing this location or they do not feel the need to invest the money into it that they have invested into the Wellesley location.
Deviated from my customary stuffed avocado (chicken and tuna) and had fish tacos. They were decent but next time I’m going back to the fabulous avocado.
Leisurely dining, relaxing experience. Charming staff!
No hostess available for more than 5 minutes on a weekday (which should not be busy). Three groups in line waiting, including multiple older people. Asked to see manager and there was none. Finally a hostess arrived, took more than 12 minutes to be seated (from time she arrived). No apology. Table did not fit. Tried to sit outside, were told to wait, finally we moved tables together ourselves. No menus. Food was fine. Really a poor showing and staff that clearly did not care. Left no tip.
This was my second time here and everyone is always pleased with the food. This time was no different, however I did experience a minor hiccup with my meal. I ordered the southwest salad with no cheese and it came to me literally with no more than five black beans, 2 halved grape tomatoes 3, tortilla strips and maybe 10 corn kernels buried in a sea of greens. I literally kept digging through to find any semblance of what the menu indicated. Nevertheless, the server was very courteous and responsive and promptly returned with a small cup of black beans and corn along with some onions that I requested. That said, my meal was very satisfying, so thank you and I look forward to returning.
Have been here a few times after some friends took me here for my birthday earlier this year. This is my third visit since then - brought another friend for her birthday, and came today and another time with other friends. Friendly staff, fresh and tasty food and when I decide to have the chocolate cake - yummy. Will be back again soon.
We had a lovely reunion with friends
It was during a very hot evening and the AC was broke in over hall the restaurant. They kept seating people in the area that had no AC while the are with AC had less patrons. The leather was wrapped and worn on the seating at our bench table. My veggies were a soggy mess in my salad. The server while he asked if we needed anything quite a bit, did not return with what we asked for. Quality is way down. I'm not interested in going back.
Decor, Patio and Service were very nice. We were kind of disappointed with our food. The lamb burger came on a burned bun and we had to send it back for a better bun. The modern nachos tasted good but were hard to eat mechanically. The chips were too thin and broke too early to use them to pick up any topping. The cheese was fine to eat, but it was too tough to tear apart, and it didn't stick to the chips at all. I ended up having to eat chips, guac and cheese separately.
The Cottage was an inspired choice for my birthday dinner for my husband, myself and our visiting godchild. We all loved our meals. I want to come back and have what my husband had, chicken piccata. It was so delicious! Our dining experience was definitely a highlight of my birthday! Thank you!!
I was so busy enjoying everything that I realized the next day I never took a single picture :-0
Food was great. Service was poor. The host was extremely unfriendly. Didn’t even acknowledge the fact that the reservation asked for us to sit outside - I had to ask after she sat us at a table in the dining room. Not that I was looking for an apology but just some acknowledgment. I listed that it was my sisters birthday and not one person inquired about it. Our waiter didn’t even tell us his name - and was surprised that the cottage would let this be okay. I have ten years of waitressing experience myself so I know the basics and what it takes. Disappointed to say the least.
Service was very poor. Appetizer cake after entree. Kids food came after adults’. Drinks were forgotten, including water. Food was nothing special. We were celebrating my son’s birthday with out of town relatives and it was a huge disappointment.
Poor service. Had a long wait to order, server never returned to refill water although requested, extended wait for the bill. Server stated he was very busy because they were understaffed. Restaurant was not busy at the time.
My fiancée and I are here on a recent Saturday evening with her sister and our 18 month old niece. The space is nice and open, well-lit and not too crowded for an early dinner.
Pros: fast service, modern nachos were a big hit, salads were well done
Cons: all of the food was a little over salted/buttered. I ordered the brick chicken on our waiter’s suggestion, and it was a bit greasy for my liking. The mashed potatoes were fine but nothing was done to give them a little more flavor to complement the chicken.
Overall I thought this was decent value relative to similarly priced restaurants
Despite having a reservation, we waited 20 minutes to be seated. The salad was also not quite a meal size, and was pretty lackluster - it was also served on a medium-sized plate. It would have been nice to be told the salad wasn’t sizeable.
Food was very good but service extremely slow. We had a reservation and it took about 20 minutes to seat us. It took a long time to get drinks as well as to place our food order. Food took a long time to come. Service was pleasant but unacceptably slow.
They may have been understaffed.
Super busy, we tried 3 times to get the check from our waiter and ended up asking our water refiller to get our waiter, which she did very quickly.
Drinks were slow to arrive and tasted like crap
food nothing special
Not enough help - long wait but very apologetic and trying their best. Two wait staff for dining room!
Food not great - drink had to be sent back - bar did not make a good Cosmo. Burger over cooked.
Service was very slow. I don't know if they were short handed, but we had to get up and get the waitress. Food was good.
It was very nice and the food was delicious but we were rushed out because they were closing early for Memorial Day. We have no issue with that but it would have been nice to know at the beginning of the meal instead of rushing through dessert and paying.
Very good services, great food. Well priced. Enjoyable atmosphere. Good selection of drinks
Everything was great! Waiter was attentive and didn’t rush us at all.
Met with some girlfriends for brunch here recently, and had a great meal. Our server, Joe, was very attentive and the food was delicious. We shared a plate of nachos that had a really great guac on top. I split the plate of french toast with a friend and they very kindly put it on two dishes ahead of time for us. My friend got an egg dish and said it was delicious. Would recommend!
Three adults and two kids met at The Cottage for Sunday brunch. We expected more brunch (as opposed to lunch) choices, but the omelets and crab cakes were very good. One of us had a burger, which was also good. The service was mediocre -- the server was pleasant, but seemed to be new and inadequately trained. The banquette where we were seated was large and comfortable. I've been to The Cottage before for dinner, when the food was more interesting. Note: Don't try to enter at the door facing Route 9, which looks like an entrance and has no sign saying otherwise. Each of our two groups found the door locked and were only admitted when a staff member saw our confusion.
Great little place for outside dining their nachos are top notch
The Cottage was a good restaurant but is no longer. The food was mediocre at best and the service was rough. A real disappointment.
Bad food, bad service, small portions, mediocre desserts. Inattentive waiter and kitchen.
Very poor service. Staff extremely disorganized. Had to repeat very basic requests many times. Very poor food and food presentation!
I was really disappointed by my dining experience at The Cottage Chestnut Hill. The restaurant was beautiful but the service was lacking. A waiter didn't come up to our table for almost 30 minutes after we were seated. Once a waiter finally came up it took another 40 minutes to get our food. Getting the check took another 20 minutes. The quality of the food was not worth the wait.
Nice gathering of friends, great location and good food.
The food was very good but our waiter seemed new. He never came to check on us or to refill drinks. We had to wait a long time to pay our bill. Other people seemed to be getting good service.
Homey, cozy Cape Cod cottage feel. Great little brunch spot.
We had a very nice brunch at The Cottage in Chestnut Hill. The hostess greeted us warmly, the atmosphere is bright but warm, our server was knowledgeable and friendly and the food was very tasty. I would highly recommend The Cottage, plus the location is great too - lots of good stores in the area and easy parking.
The food was good, not outstanding. The service was fair . Wine served after the salad. Food served soon after salad arrived. Felt rushed. All in all , would try again but somewhat disappointed .
This was my first time at this restaurant and I absolutely loved it! Got right in at my reservation time and the food was excellent! The service was also very good! I will definitely be back here soon!
