The Copper Beech Inn
Delightful porch seating. Waiter was very attentive and accommodating with several requests we made for adjustments to menu. And everything we had was delicious and well prepared, exactly to our specifications.
We had a pleasant evening at Copper Beech. The charcuterie appetizer was ordinary, with no garnish or mustard. We had scallops with lobster risotto as a main course. Scallops were inconsistently dne, but acceptable; risotto had plenty of lobster, but was a bit gummy. Dessert of sticky, toffee pudding was excellent and recommended. Wine selection was fine. Vodka martini was well prepared and single malt scotch was a generous pour. Atmosphere was fine and service was excellent. If you are in the area, Copper Beech, especially its bar menu and pub room, is fine. Not sure if a drive there is worth the trip.
Fine dining in quaint setting. Excellent service. Daily special Scampi ravioli with scallops and spinach was outstanding.
Lovely dinner with a friend. I had the Wiener Schnitzel and she had hangar steak. Both delicious and I felt reasonably priced. Would definitely go back and also recommend.
Picturesque old inn. We sat in the atrium, which has a lovely view of the garden. We dined on a Tuesday night and the restaurant was quiet with only two other tables occupied. Our server was very personable and engaging. He answered our many questions thoughtfully. Having a gluten-free diet he helped steer me to safe meals. Food was fresh and very good quality.
Excellent service and food. Reasonably priced. Beautiful grounds.
Always a great experience. Wonderful quaint and charming setting. Food is delicious. Service is tops. Jen the bartender is lovely to all. Had the stuffed squash blossoms appetizer special were wonderful and salmon for dinner. Never disappoints! Presentation is stunning.
My wife and I had a lovely dinner before going to the Ivoryton Playhouse for a show. Even though we arrived late, we had plenty of time to get to the show before curtain time without feeling rushed. My wife had scallops and I had swordfish; both dinners were exquisitely prepared. Our server was very attentive.
The Copper Beech Inn has so much charm and elegance, both inside and out. It is only natural to have a relaxed and satisfying meal in such a pleasant atmosphere.
Every course, even the cocktails, were excellent. The atmosphere is the perfect place to celebrate any occasion and the gardens are beautiful. My only issue was that even after telling them that we were celebrating a birthday when making the reservation and again, when getting there, and being assured they would take care of it, puff, nothing. Maybe if I don't celebrate my birthday, it didn't happen and I'm not getting any older? Oh well, still love the place.
We have been coming here for years and tonight was a perfect 10! This place is very cozy and the service is always top notch. For apps we had the squash blooms, soft shell crab, and watermelon gazpacho. Wow the chef really out did himself, we loved everything. For dinner we had the grilled swordfish and soft shell crab, they were both outstanding. You must have the salted caramel gelato, I have never had it so good. Thanks to the chef and Sam for making it a wonderful night once again.
Great ambiance, food and service at a reasonable price.
I wanted a place nearby for just the two of us to celebrate our anniversary. We normally din3 at Copper Beech several times each Summer
(We are seasonal residents), and we find it a great spot both special occasions simple dinner out with friends.
Unfortunately, there was a large party of hicks making a great deal of noise. Except for these low lives, it was very good. The food is always very good at the Copper Beach.
The bar was very crowded. As a result, the service was slow.
Great menu, delicious food, well executed!
Great live music and friendly crowd in the bar area.
You can’t miss here!
This is a physically beautiful restaurant, and I had been there before, but I do not feel it is as good as it once was.
The food has become a bit contrived...eg....guacamole with smoked salmon wrapped around it, with garnish on top and three chunks of crab meat on the place. My main course was scallops on corn risotto with bits of lobster in them. I itched during the night, so I suspect the they made the risotto with shrimp water. Anyway, no one asked me about allergies and everything had some frou-frou.
My companion had snails which they served without any toast points and when we asked for some toast points, they brought us plain, untoasted, French ified bread. Sigh. How could they ? and they didn't even blink.
Would I return ? Yes. It's a beautiful evening, but they just don't get it..
Keep going back. Excellent choice for any occasion.
Having dined here over several decades, I can honestly say this once pearl of Essex has lost its luster. Gone the way of Cavy’s and other gems of New England. Replaced by preference for no frills/lesser quality food - faster.
Weekday reservations were easy enough. The two of us were seated off the bar area at a wobbly table with no other patrons/music or ambience. The bar had plenty of fellow diners/music and candlelight.
The Lobster roll had very little lobster and the roll fell apart. The side was a tablespoon of shredded squash. It did come with drawn butter. Not worth $28.00. I would consider it an appetizer. Not a meal. My other half had a sirloin steak and mashed potatoes and gravy (au poivre). Very little of both and mediocre AT BEST. Not worth $32.00. There was no salt and pepper (had to ask). Had to ask for extra bread - which they forgot anyway.
The French Onion soup was excellent as was the Key Lime pie dessert.
Would not visit again for the price/experience. You can go to a chain restaurant for less money and same experience. Sorry Copper Beech, your time has come and gone. RIP.
Everything was wonderful from start to finish . Drinks were on spot . Service was fantastic. We had mussels , steak and salmon . Everything was cooked to perfection and generous portions. The crème brûlée and cheesecake for dessert were divine. Will definitely return .
I’m a regular at the Copper Beech. The atmosphere, food, service, location are all excellent.
We had a group of 7 family members meet for dinner here. We all had different seafood dishes and shared. Everything was great. We especially enjoyed the branzino.
We had a very nice meal last Saturday at the Copper Beach Inn. We asked for and received a quite table on the enclosed veranda overlooking the outside. Service was very attentive without being intrusive. But for slow arrival of our drinks the rest of the meal came out in a timely fashion; neither rushed or delayed. My foie gras was very good, my guest's shrimps huge and meals well presented and without problems.
The French bread was not as good as in years past when Charles Vanover was supplying: alas I would go to the restaurant for that alone.
All in all I've had wonderful nights in this establishment, the prices are reasonable and service excellent. I would recommend going for any occasion.
This was our first trip to the Copper Beech in a while, and we were very impressed. Excellent menu and wine choices, well prepared and served with a smile. We liked the laid-back atmosphere in the bar area. We’ll definitely be back!
Great burgers & excellent service!
A warm and inviting restaurant with excellent service. On this occasion however, I was VERY surprised that a restaurant of this quality did not have a proper steak knife. I ordered the most expensive entree, veal chop, and not only was it over cooked but tough. I was unable to cut it since a proper implement was not at hand. The “steak knife” I was given was a serrated edge which would have trouble cutting roast!!
Loved everything about our experience at Copper Beech Inn. It was our first time going there and it could not have been better. The service was superb and the food outstanding. Prices were comparable to other quality restaurants in the area. We went to dinner there before a show at the Ivoryton Theater and it was a perfect start to a wonderful evening.
Food and service very good. Noise level much too high. If you get seated anywhere near the bar, forget a relaxing meal. Ask for the Oak Room if you want quiet and white tablecloth service.
Downsides: management needs to clean the property inside and out. Scrape the paint off the windows, clean the siding. Get rid of cobwebs and dead insects on windows. And make sure your servers are wearing clean shirts - ours looked like he'd pulled the shirt off his bedroom floor - the shoulders and back were covered in lint.
We've been here four times: two out of the four were good experiences, one was iffy, the fourth very poor. So we're on the fence about returning.
The air conditioner was too high. You never be cold while eating in a restaurant. Sunday was a beautiful day and in the low 80s. The air could have been lower
The waitstaff was disjointed and erratic, and there were only 4 of us to serve at 5:30 before and 8 PM show. We had to ask for bread and butter (more than once) after the salads and soup had already been presented. Two of our 4 pre-dinner drinks (one each) were wrong - a sweeter substitute was used for Campari (according to the person who always drinks Campari and knows) and the bartender denied it (no substitute was brought) and we paid for the drink. A martini that was ordered on the rocks with olives came straight up with no garnish. These are rookie mistakes I might accept if the bill had not come to more than $75 per person. The food was passable but not worth anywhere near the price - softshell crabs had too much batter, pan seared sea scallops were OK (but too few, only 4 with a lot of stuff under them for $30). They came with a big pile of overly sauced polenta or was that ??. The hickema (sp??) salads were miniscule. French onion soup was good but had a beef?? ravioli square sequestered at the bottom - why? Mussels were tasty and fresh but I had to ask (again) for bread to sop up the juice - we also actually had to ask earlier for spoons for the soup. The fourth of us ordered a vegetarian dish that she said was OK - she is very kind. We had to flag down server after server, right to the end when we wanted to pay the bill that we had to "beg" for earlier. Let me change my rating of the staff to POOR and the overall experience to FAIR - the ambiance saved the day.
Too much noise from good small band. Service too friendly but good. Food of moderate quality perhaps trying too hard to be clever rather than just well prepared simply food.
Fantastic evening. We are never disappointed here. Great service, food is always cooked to our liking, the band was fun, just love it!
Fantastic food and service. Atmosphere was great. Loved the bread and entree's.
Mother’s Day Breakfast. They were preparing for a brunch that looked nice but they did not look after their morning customers. Service was poor. The menu was limited but good. Brunch started at 11:00 and would have been better.
Our waitress Arden was great!! Food was fabulous!!
Had a great meal and a great time. The staff is excellent and the live music was great!!!
Great night with friends could have been enhanced if our waitstaff had a clue!!!
The Copper Beech is our favorite place for special occassions as well as before the Ivoryton Play House performances.
Wonderful food. Beautiful spot.
Delicious apps & entrees! Fantastic service!! Wonderful anniversary evening!!!
5 star as always. We had specials tonight and they were both wonderful. Thanks for holding our favorite table Sam and giving us the best service. See you soon
We sat on the side porch area which was very nice. Enjoyed the music without it being too loud like it must have been in the pub. We tasted a lot of different items.
