The Cooperage is comfortable for families dining with children and features a large bar area with flat screen TV's, 12 beers on tap, eight wine selections on tap, and award winning cocktail list.
I had read some reviews before we went to The Cooperage and I was hesitant to go but as it turned out, we had a table on the patio, excellent service, food was delicious . We were seated immediately upon arriving, given a choice of inside or out. The patio was delightful and I wish I knew our servers name, she was perfect! The pork chop is 2 inches thick, yummy!
I have eaten at the Cooperage many times. The food had gotten much better. Our food on a Saturday evening was pretty bad. It will be a while before I try them again. However, sitting outside on a warm summer evening was lovely.
We stopped by on Friday night and were sat immediately. About a second after being seated our server came up and asked us if we wanted a drink, we had barely looked at the menu and asked for water for now, until we could make a decision. The server didn’t come back and about 20 minutes later the manager came and asked us if we needed any help and we said we wanted to order, we placed our order with him and still no word from our server. Half way through our meal our server did stop by and ask us how the food was, but that was the last time he stopped by our table, we saw him walking around, but he never once came by when the meal was over or to offer dessert or another drink. About 30 minutes after our plates had been cleared, I managed to get another employee and ask them for our check, which our server dropped off without even saying a word. I have been to the Cooperage multiple times and unfortunately will never go back. This service was horrible and if I’m going to spend 30+/plate, I’d prefer to do it somewhere where they actually value their customers.
We had a lovely dinner on the patio at the Cooperage for my girlfriend's birthday. We loved our Burrata appetizer. My friend had the wedge salad and I the the Brown Derby salad. I have been there before when the food was not so good. The chef was walking around the dining room and checking with tables to see how people liked their food. I felt like they are making an effort to improve the dining experience.
The drinks are always good. Will definitely go back soon.
Typically good and satisfying comfort food here. This time we ordered the ribeye and the ribs. Both excellent but the ribeye was not quite as juicy or well marbled as we’ve had in the past. Also, and for some odd reason, we sat indoors and in a booth adjacent to the kitchen and flies were perched and flying about our heads! The Cooperage restaurant floor opens onto an outdoor patio so I guess flies are inevitable but 5 of them decided to rest on my seat back!
Very poor service and the food was mediocre. Expensive for what you get and quality.
I enjoyed the ambiance, eating outdoors under the umbrellas with my friends. Service was very attentive without being "in my face." I had the french dip which was prepared in an unusual way, with a smokey sauce and melted cheese dripping over the bun. It was good, but I prefer the plain old standard preparation.
Great spot for dinner with friends. Outside dining is always pleasant!
Their new (to us) Pork Chop was spectacular! We'll be returning just for that.
Went here for a family dinner (4 people) to celebrate my birthday. Service was terrible. Appetizer came well before we even got our drinks. Drinks were 1 bottle of champagne and a soft drink. We were not checked on, always had to refill our champagne glasses. Asked for dessert menus and that took 15 mins. Food was ok. We have been here before and had much better service and food. We will not be back anytime soon.
Crab lunch salad had really good crab and lots of it BUT lettuce was wet and dressed too oily. Ask for only side dressing.
Always a reliable spot. My halibut was over cooked but the chef also accommodated my multiple food sensitivities graciously, so I really appreciated that. The salmon, halibut and burgers our guests had were very good, according to them. This can be a very noisy place, so if you’re in the mood for quiet conversation, sit outside or at a table far in the back behind the bar.
Terrific service, great salads, lovely to sit outside for lunch. Thanks!
Appetizers came with main. The noodles had formed a block of pasta that had to be cut. Our server was gruff and disappeared after taking our order. No refills of ice tea or lemonade offered. I had to flag down another server to obtain our bill -- I was about to walk to the maitre d to request the check. Not the level of service I expect for an upscale lunch.
Best gin and tonics around; steak and halibut entrees were good; avoid the oysters for an appetizer--they were shucked so sloppily that there were shards of shel in many of them. Outdoor seating is very pleasant.
It appears that there is a new owner and possibly new chefs. Unfortunately the food has gone downhill. The cocktails are skimpy and one wonders how much alcohol are really in them. I had the ribs and the sauce was not to my taste and the ribs were fattier than most places I've been to. The coleslaw was not all creamy and it was like eating salad without dressing. My friend had the pork chop which he did not like as it was too "hammy". It seems like they are skimping on the quality to make a bigger profit. After 2 Manhattans I had ordered on a different occasion, it felt like I had just drank Seven Up rather than an alcoholic drink. The outside patio is great, even though our heater was broken, but they need to do better on their food and drink as there are too many other restaurants with nice outdoor dining.
Come here often and always like the food and the service.
Delightful place, great menu, great atmosphere!
Great menu and consistent preparation. This place is a favorite. Busy at prime time but a little quieter and more comfortable just a little outside of 6-8 PM.
All was good except one faux pas - ordered the turkey BLT and the FORGOT the bacon. Told the waiter who was not very apologetic and just said let me get you some bacon.
He needs to be trained and the kitchen staff should be admonished for that.
Everything was great.
We've been to the Cooperage 9-10 times over the past few years. Something has changed, and not in a good way. This visit, the service was poor and the food and drink quality were well below past experiences.
We were seated for our reservation on time, but waited 10 minutes before being greeted by our server. This was the only time he came to our table without us first having to ask a staff member.
We ordered drinks, which took 20 minutes to arrive. The drinks arrived watered down and poorly made, which is a change from the artisan level cocktails we've had in the past.
At this point, we realized how slow things were going, so we skipped appetizers and ordered dinner. Dinner arrived in a timely manner and was fair. The tamales were great, the burger was overcooked and bland, other dishes were okay, and dessert was fair. Overall, the quality of the food was below past visits.
We asked for the bill and waited 10 minutes for it to arrive, then waited another 15 minutes before finding a staff member to find out waiter to take the bill. The bill was split between 3 cards and was split and receipted properly. However, the next day, one of our party members checked their bank account only to find their card had been charged the entire bill! We're still trying to resolve this issue.
We've enjoyed the Cooperage in the past, but after this experience, we will be unlikely to return. There are too many other high quality restaurants in the area with better service, drinks, food, and accounting.
I have visited the restaurant many times before and was disappointed at the decline of food quality and service. The oysters and the salad were flavorless and we had to wait for over 15 min after desert menu was given to us.
Wonderful dinner with friends! We shared several dishes and they were all outstanding.
Very good food. Seemed busy maybe short staffed.
Fathers Day brunch!
Really miss the brisket sandwich since they have changed the menu.
We have eaten at The Cooperage many times and have, in the past, been very pleased! We have recommended your restaurant to many of our friends and have enjoyed it ourselves - just the two of us or with our large extended family. We do understand that this past Sunday was Fathers' Day, but the restaurant was not super crowded while we were there. My husband's meal, a Mushroom Omelette was very small and lacked flavor, and he had to ask for butter and jam for his toast - which was sour dough bread instead of the whole wheat that he had requested. Our son's meal, a French Dip Sandwich lacked flavor. My meal, a Huevos Rancheros, was very good; thank you. My husband had to finally get up to request water; we kept looking for our waiter to refill our glasses of water and cups of coffee. No waiter was around, so he went inside to find one. We do hope that our service and food will be better next time.
Good food nice ambience. Spotty service.
sigh We keep coming to The Cooperage, and keep getting disappointed by the service. Our wait person took 15+ minutes.to.take.our drink.order, and.then another 15 before the bartender brought us our beverages. The second set of drinks, the bartender poured a new different wine into the same glass. This is basic restaurant service no no 101. Couldn't he bring a fresh glass? Waitress didn't clarify what comes with each entree, so.instead of us debating.over the side.dishes, couldnt she tell.us what was included (or better yet, put it on the menu?). When dinner finally came, it was lukewarm, as if the potatoes and meat were waiting for the veggies to be finished (they were piping hot). Food was good, but a cold.dinner.isnt my idea of a good dinner. Wait person was overwhelmed, slammed and couldn't attend to us suitably. Have waited tables and served wine for plenty of.years, and when a wait person has to keep apologising, it's a #FAIL.
Outstanding restaurant. Awesome food. Outstanding staff. Excellent Service. Me and my family will definitely return.
I am really sad to write this review because I love love love this place and whenever I am in town I always come here. The bar is fantastic and the bartenders are regulars so it's fun to see a familiar face plus they are EXTREMELY knowledgable in what they serve. The food is always well priced for what you get and they keep the staples on there but change an item or two every so often. I can always find what I love and sometimes be adventurous. Unfortunately this visit the service was horrible. I chalked it up to be understaffed which can happen but we later found out without even being informed they were training someone. Why would you train someone on a Friday night when you are packed?!?! And then not inform your guests???? It started off with us waiting 20 minutes for someone to even greet us and take our drink orders. It then got so bad she would serve a table near us and not even glance in our direction so after 30 minutes we would flag down another server (not in our section) and twice my husband and friend got up and went directly to the bar for drinks. I can be very forgiving when someone is new to their job but we were never informed she was training, the waiter shadowing her never stepped up to help us when she forgot us and to have to go to the bar yourself when seated at a table after 30 minutes of waiting is just plain unacceptable. I really hope The Cooperage reevaluates how to inform customers when training new staff and also consider training on not the busiest nights of the week. Very sad to write this review.
The joint was hopping. Just too loud for us old folks to hear. Food was decent.
Everything was great loved eating outside on a great day.
The food and service are consistently outstanding. Our waiter was exceptional.
Nice, round table for a party of 6. Very pleasant indoor/outdoor feel near the open windows. Service was a bit slow, but Sonoma was so friendly that it really didn't matter. Everyone enjoyed their choice of from the brunch/lunch menu.
The new chef is obviously improving the food here. We had lobster which wa grilled top refection and teh prime rib which was seasoned just right! Claps to the chef.
Great spot for summer outdoor dining in Lafayette. Solid food options combined with good wine choices/pricing; attentive service. Can be noisy on game nights so ask for a table away from the bar.
It was a little noisier than usual due to the NBA Finals being on, but it was what we wanted! A terrific dining experience plus the chance to cheer on the Warriors (even though we lost). I arrived earlier than my reservation and they were able to accommodate immediately.
