Outstanding dinner and service......worth a detour to this spot
Service is outstanding, polite, felt like a princess. Only thing is small portions, and 1 salmon dinner was undercooked and 2 salmon dinners overcooked. And the white chocolate mouse was too sweet like vanilla frosting. Bread and butter is homemade in restaurant.
Exceptional service and exceptional and creative culinary menu. Would highly recommend restaurant as one of Newport's finest.
The restaurant was empty for most of our meal on a Friday evening. The room was very cold. My steak was ordered as rare to med rare but it came medium to well done and dry. It was precut into slices on my plate and cold by the time I ate it. The other entree was grilled tuna and was good. Their wines were limited and we had to choose a few from their menu before they had one on hand. Dessert was boring and small. Fruit tarts were actually very hard cookies with pie-type fruit filling. Our other dessert included chocolate puff pastry which was hard as a rock and shot across the room when we cut into it. Meal was very overpriced for what was delivered. Service was good.
had a lovely meal, very relaxed, maureen was terrific
Heavenly! Overall you can't go wrong, and they have a number of gluten free options. Glorious.
My friend and I visited while touring the mansions. It was the best brunch we've ever had! She ordered Eggs Benedict and I had the Greek omelette. The hostess was SO friendly and when asked, told us the history of Vanderbilt Grace which was quite interesting. The outdoor setting was peaceful and beautiful. If I weren't 5 hours away, I'd go back several times a year.
The food was phenomenal.!! I had the best grilled lobster and the steak my husband had was so tender and flavorful. I read a negative comment about the portions. If you want huge portions then don't go. The food is worth the price. A must go to if you are a foodie and farm to table person.
Dining at night in a garden in Newport. ... perfect
100% Dissatisfied !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very small entree portions,
Service was excellent.
It was a beautiful setting with excellent and attentive service.
unfortunately nothing we ate was special, especially for $100.
The inexpensive meal we had the next night was more tasty and satisfying.
Great secluded gem for a romantic dinner or intimate group. Garden dining beautiful.
Quiet retreat dining in downtown Newport. The food is seasonal and farm fresh, an inspired menu that is simple yet elegant. Good wine list, nice garden terrace dining, nothing rushed, secret in the hustle of busy Newport.
I can not confirm some of the negative reviews. We experienced utmost courtesy and professionalism by the entire staff, from the moment we entered the hotel/restaurant. Our server, Maureen, deserves a special mention as she was particularly friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was very nice (not too busy or loud), with beautiful live piano music in the background. The food was delicious, but as other reviewers have stated, portions are on the small side, so you certainly need to add an appetizer, and perhaps even a (delicious) desert. The result, of course, is a dinner bill that is not on the cheap side. However, it is worth it, and we have no hesitation recommending this gem of a restaurant for dinner.
Excellent service and food very nice place
The lobster risotto was exceptional. Great service in such a beautiful location.
We enjoyed Sunday brunch in the garden. Was a peaceful atmosphere. Food was delicious and service was excellent!
Wonderful service as well as gourmet food. Would recommend this place to anyone who wants to get out of the loud streets of Newport in the summer but not be too far away from everything. Within a walking distance to Bowen's Wharf and all the shoppes! THE best meal I ate in Newport.
Dining there was a thoroughly delightful experience.
Though the menu is limited, this is a little gem. The food was delicious, we were not rushed at all, it was beautiful to sit outside. Our waitress was wonderful!!! Cant say enough about her and the others that served us.
Cant wait to go back
This is our go to place away from touristy spots in Newport.
A place you can actually have quiet conversation. Delicious food, great cocktails and extensive wine list.
There is a rooftop bar too, great views of Newport.
Save your money. DO NOT go to this restaurant. The service is mediocre. Most of the staff, especially our waiter, had a very strong creepy vibe. The servings are extremely tiny for the prices. Entree sizes were more like appetizer size. I suggest instead that you go to The Moorings restaurant. The ambiance is fabulous and the food is out of this world delicious and fresh. The staff is friendly, attentive and knowledgable.
This was a beautiful courtyard and a very quiet and welcomed getaway from the busyness on Thames. The menu was diverse even though it was not too long. Great drink and wine menu. The food was well-prepared and tasty. We were the first ones to arrive so service was very good in the beginning. Once it started to fill, the service was a little more spotty. The table next to us started to have problems and when we ordered dessert, we sat waiting for at least half an hour - no eye contact from the wait staff, no drink refills, no reassurance that dessert was on the way. We asked for the check because we had a timed tour and were told that the pastry chef was late so our desserts were not ready - it was too bad because if we had not t stayed for dessert, I would have rated this place higher.
We arrived for brunch after the breakfast crowd had left. It was a hidden jewel, cute garden al fresco dining. Good food, very friendly and engaging staff who gave us time/space but were attentive. A wonderful contrast to the busy, street-side cafes and bar/restaurants. Also, the staff was knowledgeable about the beautiful house that had been converted into a boutique hotel. Will come back again!
We had a wonderful meal at the Conservatory at Vanderliblt Grace. Like several other reviewers have mentioned, the restaurant was basically empty which is crazy because the food was amazing! Our server was great, he was very attentive yet let us have our space while enjoying our meal. Not overly expensive either. Eventually this spot will catch on as a hot spot!
It's a small place and the table next to us happened to be celebrating a birthday and we're way too loud. I left with a headache.
While enjoying a long-awaited getaway to Newport, we scheduled a dinner at Vanderbilt Grace with relatives in Rhode Island and had a wonderful dining experience together.
Excellent food at an affordable price. The calamari appetizer, the boar main and chocolate mousse dessert were all well worth it!
Our only experience here. Wait staff very welcoming without being overly friendly. We reserved Conservatory, but ate at Muse. So in that restaurant there was piano singer. Subdued atmosphere. Food was good without being excellent. The value for cost was correct but I wouldn't have wanted to pay more. The dishes arrived with quite an artistic flar. We will return.
Went to the Conservatory once again and this time for my son's graduation celebration. All was good except the timing of the service was a bit off. We received our dessert well before the tea and cappuccino. Also, we were asked if another bottle of wine was desired when everyone had at least 2-3 ounces in their glass. Food and atmosphere were great but service could use some improvement.
The reputation at Vanderbilt Grace exceeded their Mother's Day brunch service and food, especially for the price. Service was not particularly attentive once seated. In fact, people at next table said they too had waited for a server to notice them.
For $65 the brunch buffet was pretty limited - while it was nice to have mimosa/bloody included, dessert (not breakfast pastry) would have been nice. Tab for 2 without anything extra was $almost $150 before tip.
The food was fair at best, especially given the restaurant next door.
It was a nice experience. The food was good the service was great. An intimite dining space. It was a nice deal for restaurant week but would I go back... Maybe
Food was great server( Anna) professional. Valet service also. Will go again
Very beautiful, small setting. Perfect for a romantic date or to take grandma out. Not for large or loud groups. Everything was good but nothing special, as far as the food goes. There are plenty of better dining options in Newport.
Even on a rainy Saturday during Restaurant week The Conservatory was charming. The wicker chairs were comfortable and the ambiance elegantly homey. The four-cheese grilled cheese sandwich was elevated by the tomato bisque and the raspberry panna cotta was excellent - as was the service. Will definitely return.
My husband & I went enjoyed a Valentine's Day brunch at The Conservatory At Vanderbilt Grace. It was very cold outside so the seating with the warm sun shining in was heavenly! The service was professional and attentive yet we weren't rushed to order or pay the check - we were allowed to dine at our own leisurely pace. The food was delicious and appropriately priced. We felt the cocktails were a bit overpriced - $15 each for a mimosa seemed a bit much as it cost almost as much as our individual brunch entrees. Had they been just a little less expensive we would have had more than one each but it didn't detract for our enjoyable experience. If you're looking for a relaxing environment to enjoy a good mean then this is the place for you!
Only through Open Table did we become aware of this special place. We were seated in an elegant dining room, right next to a crackling wood fireplace. The staff is very pleasant, efficient and helpful. Menu choices were very good and were not extravagently priced. Being music buffs, our server told us about their schedule for piano music and 4 piece jazz nights. We shall definitely for dinner and music on our next trip to Newport. Go and experience it for yourselves. We had a very enjoyable Birthday dinner experience.
