I had heard a lot of great things about the Commoner and I am so glad that we finally decided to go. First the cocktails were amazing (and the names/descriptions were hilarious). Second the food was really good. We got the fondue to start and I had the scallops. Would definitely go back!
Pasta dish was great. Hamburger was overdone, but had a great char flavor. French fries were luke warm. It was a busy Saturday nite, and the server wouldn’t guarantee that we would be finished in time for our concert. But had plenty of time considering we choose easy fare. Good coffee!
Had the skirt steak which was very tough and the food was luke-warm.
Appetizers were delicious
On-line reservation worked well. Despite the crowd, the waitress responded to our request to hurry. Food ( both had dinner salads) was very good. Recommend.
Enjoyed having brunch for the first time at The Commoner. Food and drinks were great. Service was excellent and timely. We had a great holiday meal with family! Fun atmosphere and great energy.
If you are looking for a brunch place with a group of friends, this place can definitely be at the top of your list. The only thing is you need to bank in at least 15 minutes to find a parking nearby.
Everything was very good, the only problem I had was coffee grounds in both cups of coffee I received even when I requested a new cup after finishing the first and leaving the grounds at the bottom.
Despite that, food is delicious as always (I highly recommend the pierogis and eggs) and the waitress was extremely nice.
The food and service was great. Nice atmosphere, would recommend to friends and family.
We enjoyed everything about the Commoner! What a great find during our trip to Pittsburgh! Highly recommended!
Took awhile to get my bloody. 15 minutes to be exact. The eggs weren’t cooked correctly and the hollandaise wasn’t on the side as requested. The bloody was taken care of but nothing else. Overall my experience last night was better. I’d still recommend it but they need to step up their brunch game.
Food was ok, but service was TERRIBLE. Server was awkward, inattentive and not knowledgeable. The have an amazing assortment of cocktails and craft beers...but I didn’t know because I wasn’t given a cocktail menu. It was only after ordering my Bloody Mary that I realized that the tables around us had an additional menu. When I asked our server about it, she insisted that we had the only menu that there was. It was only after pressing the issue that we were given the additional menu (which was originally empty inside but then replaced by a different one) ...page after page of cocktails. But again, I already had a drink, so it was pointless.
The Bloody Mary bar was average, but a good selection of hot sauces. However, there were 2 mixes—one green and one smoked. Neither was super appealing to me. I just wanted a “normal” Bloody Mary. I went with the smoked mix, which I didn’t like at all. It was only when when I passed the bar on the way to the bathroom before leaving that I noticed that they had added a 3rd “original” Bloody Mary mix. Once again—too late to do me any good.
Asked our server for a spoon for my coffee...never got one. Had to stir with my knife.
Asked our server for a fork for my son and some napkins...never brought any. Had to take them off of another table.
Then she went AWOL until we finally flagged her down for the check.
Great service. Fabulous food. Good atmosphere. Drink was STRONG.
Didn't find the food worth the amount of money that was spent.
We were here for over 90 minutes and were late for the hockey game even with our reservations. The table to our right and left were finished with their meals and they sat after us. The scotch egg took 30 minutes to arrive. The Cobb salads were pretty quick but our main courses took another 30 plus minutes. My wife’s fries were cold and my pork chop was lukewarm. The food was good but the service left a very bad impression. Don’t think we will do this again.
We loved the great atmosphere and simple menu. Something for everyone!
Good food , good service. Enjoyed our evening.
Had roasted fall vegetables and roasted cauliflower for appetizer- both were very good. Carrot soup was very flavorful. Grilled salmon was perfectly done.
Terrific industrial atmosphere, inventive menu, attentive service and great food!
We went to The Commoner before a pens game & it was lovely. Started with cocktails & the potato dauphinoise which is definitely an app that I need to revisit. My date had the scottish salmon, which she praised & I the strip steak. The strip was excellent but the roasted brussels sprouts is the real winner.
We will definitely go back in the future.
Great food and good service. I would go back to this restaurant again. Highly recommended.
Pierogi and Eggs was delicious!
Service was fantastic!
Drinks were perfect!
I always enjoy my visit to the commoner!
There was no Gluten Free products available for breakfast/brunch. Gluten Free Waffle, Pancakes or bread would be a valuable item to have on the menu.
Serivice lacked what we would have expected from a top notch place. Appetizers were great but our burgers were too charred for the quality I expected from a fine establishment. Bar scene before dinner was fantastic.
Food was good. Drinks and service were timely. We were out with plenty of time to spare for our show.
The service was good. The dinner menu was extremely small and not many options. I found it to be overpriced for such a limited menu and the quality of food did not match the inflated price.
We waited over an hour for our dinner even though the restaurant was not packed. Poor ventilation system-smoke filled air from the kitchen permeated through the dining area. The decor itself is nice.
Perfect as always, love this place!
For the first time ever we celebrated Thanksgiving by eating at a restaurant. The food at The Commoner was delicious, and the amount was perfect. The California Pinot Grigio was moderately good. Our waiter was pleasant but quite slow. The young man who brought out meals, however, did an exceptional job considering my husband requested a few things. All in all, we will return again.
The service was outstanding! The food left a little to be desired. Some of our dishes weren’t seasoned well.
Nice interior and design, good drinks (great Manhattan) and beer selection, good flatbread. Would return.
We had brunch on Sunday and were looking forward to it after all of the great meals we’ve had there in the past. What we encountered was Poor quality of food served cold. Rude server.
Generally bad experience for the price point of this restaurant which used to be a great place to eat. It wasn’t even a very busy service once we arrived.
Maybe it was an off day but there’s really no excuse. I was enjoying a pre-holiday brunch with my family who doesn’t get together all that often so, we rollled with it and didn’t cause a fuss but we also have no desire to return. Really a disappointment.
Great bar and bartenders. Excellent lamb shank. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
Great food and service. Fun drinks. Hip spot. Giving 4 stars only because it was very smoky, even for an ‘open kitchen’ concept.
Chicken and waffles for brunch were amazing!!!!!
Nice place for breakfast. Seems to have improved its menu since the last time we ate there. Perhaps a bit loud for dinner. Certainly will go back for breakfast.
The food was fantastic and the decor awesome!
The kielbasa, pierogi and eggs with mustard hollandaise was extraordinary! I recommend for a fun outside the box brunch idea.
Great Sunday Brunch.
Was there for brunch and late night drinks. Amazing place with a great selection of food. Being vegetarian, I was happy with the selection of food that was available. The place does get packed and service can be slightly slow during busy times.
The food was awesome. Waitress seemed hurried; only reason why I rated the restaurant a 4 and not a 5. It was busy, but not crazy.
