This was such a pleasant surprise! Had dinner there 3 days ago and I am still enjoying my meal. The roasted carrot with a delicious fresh pesto has to be one of the best bites I have had in awhile. The ribeye was the special and it was perfectly cooked with a good seasoned char. I will be going back soon!
Last minute date night and WOW! This meal was anything but common. The food, the service, the ambiance was exquisite. Already planning to return for my birthday.
My first dinner trip to The Commoner. It was pretty loud and busy. No real problems, but I’ll probably be sticking to brunch trips.
Happy to be staying in the hotel, and that made it all the more enjoyable. Would not hesitate to come here for dinner, however, even if we had been staying any place else in the downtown area.
Ambiance? Sports bar-like, with a really rowdy crowd.
Service? Insanely bad. Slow, inattentive, uninformed, cold.
Food? Really quite good! I loved the Street Corn.
We went for brunch while visiting Pittsburgh for the weekend. Great Crab Benedict! We also had the Bloody Mary bar. The food was fantastic. The service was meh...but the food made it bearable
Food is good, Bloody Mary Bar is fun
Delicious meal, staff o did not mind kids one bit! Happy to introduce them to an upscale experience.
Great place to celebrate my girl's birthday. We truly enjoyed our evening. Food was amazing and drinks were perfect.
Excellent Food. Every item was good, so I'd say worth it, but still a little pricey. Portions, again reasonable but a little light for the price. Service was excellent, room a little loud, but bearable.
The food was great. A great go to breakfast place.
Great cocktails and good menu that is not overwhelming. Easy to make a choice
We ate here for breakfast and returned for dinner. Very good food and service. Unfortunately we were surrounded by cackling and loud tables. Not The Commoner’s fault, but people never let you down.
Excellent meal. Pleasantly surprised at how good it was. A hidden gem in downtown Pittsburgh.
Stopped here for lunch before Kenny Chesney concert--excellent. Service was great! Food was wonderful! Headed upstairs to rooftop Biergarten and saw raised bed planters with veggies & herbs for restaurant!!! Fun time!
Despite an odd table placement where we were staring at the people next to us, we liked The Commoner enough to eat here for breakfast and dinner.
Food came in 5 minutes luke warm, waited 10 minutes for new martini cause first was horrible
$35 for veggie dish and one bad martini?????
Great brunch before the ballgame. Casual dining with interesting cocktails, fun brunch options, and good service. Seating tight. Would definitely return for a low-key lunch/brunch with friends downtown.
Crispy Cauliflower app is a must! Had Scottish steak and NY strip, both excellent. Our waitress was a terrific resource for the menu and quite attentive.
We chose The Commoner because of the excellent reviews and the menu choices. We arrived and didn’t realize it would be a brunch menu but we weren’t disappointed. Our server Alexis was AWESOME! She was friendly, funny, knowledgeable and made our experience one of the best, if not the best, we’ve ever had since having a baby. She made the day!
Our server, Matt was the best. So much personality. Great service and he made it fun!
Everything was great; however, they notified open table that I didn’t attend my reservation, even though I was there. Other than that, everything was fantastic. Loved the peach bellinis and crab Benedict.
We shared small plates and a dessert. All of the food was very good; the one dish not to our liking was immediately taken off our bill. Very pleasant atmosphere.
Great place for drinks but not dining. But for the Scotch Egg, the food is below average—nothing that an average cook could not make at home with ingredients from Costco. After my two dining experiences at The Commoner, I recommend that you select a different restaurant.
From the creative and delicious menu items to the amazing service we had, this was one of the best Pittsburgh dining experiences in the past couple of years. Highly recommend the Commoner!
Service was excellent.
Our meals were very fresh, well prepared, great blend of flavors and beautiful presentation. Also a perfect temperature when served. I have had the sticky toffee date cake before and really enjoyed it. This one was good, but not as wonderful as my past experience.
there are many people and we wait for long time.
teste good especial beef burger.
I picked The Commoner because I have had good experiences there, in the past. Well, past performance is not a predictor of future performance! The restaurant seems to have deteriorated in several aspects. The waiter was completely disinterested in us - didn’t bring coffee refills; didn’t help us with a spill; didn’t check on us during the meal; didn’t ask us if we wanted dessert, I could go on.
And it’s not like we didn’t try to get his/their attention - it seems that waitstaff are trained to *avoid* eye contact!
The food was insipid and unimaginative as well. Did the chefs who created the excellent meals of the past all leave?? There are many breakfast options in Pittsburgh that would have made a better brunch for half the price.
In all, a lousy Mother’s Day brunch experience. With all the excellent dining options that are available in Pittsburgh, The Commoner has many fixes to make if they expect to survive.
Mom’s food was cold, my food was cold and the chicken was burnt to a crisp. I had to send it back. The manager brought my new chicken to the table and didn’t even apologize or offer to remove it from the check. The woman sitting next to us sent her food back twice because it was cold. Worst mother’s day dining experience I’ve ever had. Would not recommend....a waste of $60!
Server didn't know what the fish tasted like.
$14 for soup and very small.
The califliower had more breading than described and did not have eggplant with it.
Super friendly staff, amazing food, and lengthy interesting drinks menu.
I was at the restaurant @ 11:55 am and requested a seat seeing the restaurant was filling... I mentioned that I was awaiting a business associate and repeated my name. Although I was clear my business partner was to be seated with me upon his arrival—he unfortunately sat for almost 10-15 minutes beside the host stand without the host asking him was he waiting for someone and who might that be. My associate called my cell phone and we linked up @ 10-15 minutes after noon for our noon lunch. That made the lunch be hurried and ran longer than anticipated.
My hamburger was cooked well and was delicious. The Toffee Pudding dessert had me licking the bowl. Definitely recommend.
The Tikki Marsala was delicious. Nice location and atmosphere. Service was a bit lack luster. Brunch the next day wasn't worth the price.
Our first visit to the Commoner on the was to the theatre and we weren't sure we were in Pittsburgh. Loved the atmosphere and the service was outstanding. My friend commented that the brunch menu looked small yet she couldn't chose between three dishes she wanted to try. My Crab Benedict was delicious with significant crab and my friend's wrap was outstanding. We plan to go back soon.
I was very disappointed with the service. First time leave no tip! The waiter took very long to come and check in with us after we got seated. Getting 2 cups of coffee with cream app took us 7 min wait when he brought it no spoon was provided. Had to wait again to get a spoon then we asked random waiter to give us a spoon to stir the coffee. She brought us a SOUP spoon for my coffee! Then i realized that my mug rim was all chipped at that point I requested to see the manager he was kind and changed my coffee. Wait for food was long enough that people who cam after us received their food but we still waited for our eggs! Food is average not worth the wait.
By looking at the tables around me, I definitely went with one of the more basic items. The butter lettuce salad was fresh with a good combination of fruit, vegetables and delicious blue cheese. The lettuce pieces were way too large; you'll definitely need a knife. The dressing was a bit too bland for my taste. The tomato bisque was very good. If you are going for date night, make a reservation so that you are not having to sit right next to other diners. Overall it was a good experience, but $30 for a soup and salad is a bit much.
Food has gone down hill big time. Server was knowledgeable but food has gone far down hill in the last year.
Great food loved avocado Blt great fries
