The fries are tasty and the drinks are delicious. The mixing vodka and emotions is a must try! The watermelon ice cubes are a nice touch.
Kitchen is a little slow during lunch rush but the service is great and the atmosphere is cool.
Crab Benedict had poached eggs that were a little too under cooked. Crab smelled very strong. Flavor good overall. Potatoes were mushy.
Bloody Mary bar was delicious. $15 for Bloody Mary bar, $13 for just a Bloody Mary.
A little expensive for the quality.
Atmosphere nice, seating comfortable, staff friendly. Very loud.
Was in Pittsburgh for Steelers game and met up with a relative who recommended The Commoner. Was very satisfied.
My husband and I were very disappointed. The place was very noisy and crowded. We were seated immediately but had To wait for 15 minutes before a waitress came for our drink order. We waited another 10 minutes for her to come back with no drinks as the bar was backed up. We looked st each other and realized this was not the place to celebrate our anniversary. People were dressed in t shirts shorts and flip flops. ?????? I thought the Commoner was an upscale restaurant. We were definitely overdressed. We went to McCormick and Schmick. You need a dress code enforced. Totally unacceptable. We have no interest in returning.
Unique food and drink selections. Comfortable seating in a nice environment for double date. Great little gem within a 10-min walk from the PPG arena.
Excellent food and drinks! Get the pork belly appetizer. You won't be disappointed.
The food was great! it has a real farm to table kinda vibe, which comes through in the taste and presentation of the delicious options.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary here and the evening was brilliant. Our waiter welcomed us with a congratulations and a free glass of bubbly. His service was impeccable and I highly recommend the lamb pot pie. Excellent!
Food was Fabulous and our waitress was so friendly !
We were not impressed with the foods, overcooked and not hot.
This was the second time my wife and I ate at The Commoner. Both experiences were fine. The host and waitstaff were inviting, polite, and attentive. This time we both ordered lamb burgers and they were delish! I have no idea how my wife finished her sandwich, but she did! The baskets of fries were nicely spiced and fresh.
We began our meal with a shared Caesar salad. The preparation had a unique spin, but was one of the best I’ve enjoyed in a long time. I have to have anchovies, so thank you!
They have a nice selection of draft and bottled beers. I enjoyed Squish from a local brew house, Cinderlands. My wife chose a Justin red wine, a bit pricey but worth the couple extra bucks.
Was ok. The menu description vs what is presented =not what I had in mind
Great breakfast. Great service
I had the duck special and it was fantastic! I would definitely recommend dining here if you are in town. The service was great, and our waitress was very knowledgeable.
Great food as always!
Food and service were absolutely amazing! Great drink selection and the menu really had something for everyone. The atmosphere was perfect for a night out on the town.
8-25-19 Sunday brunch. I read a prior review but ignored on long wait for food. It is so. Don’t be in a hurry. Omelette was ordinary with plain Jane diced potatoes. Overnight Oats was not oats but Chia Or flax prepared in an unhinged disguise. Menu is all entrees no sides for toast or fruit. Ambiance is relaxed with non forced service. It’s a Kimpton, at least it will be handsomely appointed.
I loved the atmosphere, the décor was trendy but comfortable. The drinks were great, I really enjoyed the 'Sex on the Mon Wharf and my husband liked his 'Not So Old Fashioned.' I had the flat iron steak special and my husband had the lamb burger. Both were delicious and had great flavor! The only issue we had was that my steak was not cooked correctly. I am 'one of those people' who can only eat steak medium well to well. A big portion of my steak was cooked medium rare. They were able to put it back on the grill but it still wasn't quite where I like it... it was good enough though. We had chocolate chess pie for dessert (they comped it due to the steak issue which was nice but probably would have ordered it anyway) and it was to die for. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and would definitely return (but maybe I won't get any steak).
Everything was top notch. I cannot wait to go back again.
The service was perfunctory, although we did enjoy the menu selections recommended by our server. The bus boy twice tried to remove food from the table even though it should have been obvious that we were not finished with the dish. The noise level is high.
Great as always!
Lunch was great! Unique variations on favorites. Dessert was delicious! Great place to go for a workday lunch. Being able to make a reservation was a plus.
We didn't realize that they weren't serving dinner yet and found ourselves looking at a very small mid-day menu. The options were by no means bad, but we were expecting the awesome dinner menu we saw online. However, our server was fantastic, the fondue was amazing, and the desserts were absolutely to die for. We will definitely be back for the dinner menu and the awesome desserts!
A go to for business lunches. Always great service.
We had just gotten into town and chose it because it took a 10:00pm reservation but the price to value ratio was low. Jeff tartar was delicious overly dressed but delicious (I’m a blue rare kinda gal so you don’t have to do much to steak in my opinion)
Not a bad place but we won’t be back for food just drinks.
Brunch with friends from out of town. Food and service was very good. I recommend
Overall, we really like this restaurant. We ordered the crab dip, which was delicious! Huge pieces of lump crab and perfectly grilled bread.
My dinner was the angry lobster bolognese. it was great. Spicy, good texture, pasta and lobster cooked perfectly. my fiance had the lamb burger. He enjoyed it but didn't like the basil hummus. It made the bottom part of the bun soggy and he ended up just eating the burger without the bun.
Drinks and desserts are pretty expensive. I had a 15 dollar sex on the mon wharf. It was good but I wouldn't order it again based on the price.
The sticky toffee pudding is excellent. the chess pie was almost inedible.
We ordered breakfast in bed as we stayed at the hotel Monaco. Great room service. Again, pricey. 71 dollars plus tax and gratuity ended up being over 80 dollars for an egg white frittata, an order of buckwheat pancakes, 2 sides of bacon and coffee and apple juice.
Great for a special occasion but not for your typical night out or breakfast options.
Cool eclectic atmosphere...excellent service. Food reasonably priced for a downtown location. Quick walk to cultural district.
Still the best in Downtown Pittsburgh for quality cuisine! A great place for business or pleasure! Try the Tikka Masala!
Our servicer was nice. Took forever for our food, not his fault. Some of the food was cold, not worth the money
My friend and I went to brunch on Sunday. My crab Benedict was ok- nothing to brag about. Eggs were not runny, English muffin was too dense the crab cake was on par with a grocery store, and the potatoes were average at best. My friend got the salad ($12) and added the steak- the steak was an additional $14 and was the size of a coaster. Way too over priced for a mediocre meal- $65 with tip!!!!!
As usual, the chefs came up with another appealing and incredibly tasty meal with the salmon and fritters dish. Enjoyed every bite!
The Commoner has a very cool vibe. Our server was excellent! However, the food was very boring. It was not worth the $120 we paid. Sadly, I don't think we'll be back.
Excellent place alway exceptional with good service from the host the bar tenders the wait staff etc. never had a bad experience here
Have ate here about half a dozen times over the last couple years. They have been through two chefs, and the food has progressively got worse.
They change the menu every few months, which is fine, but if you find a dish you like, it disappears a few months later. Latest menu it was hard to find anything that was appealing, and the main course I got I only ate the protein. The sides were just unappetizing.
Not planning on returning. Maybe if a chef becomes established and the menu improves, I will try again.
The space itself is beautiful; very much so a gastropub vibe as it has the industrial look/atmosphere. Our server was very polite but equally unattentive. I ordered the crab benedict and my friend had their pierogies without the kielbasa. Our food was pretty cold by the time it got to our table and it was pretty slow in there. My friends pierogies were basically burnt, the crab benedict was pretty basic.
I wasnt impressed.
I brought my good friend who was visiting from Connecticut and he described the restaurant as 'trendy'. I got the wagyu burger and it was delicious! The drinks were creative and flavorful as well.
Working in the city, this a great place for lunch, something for everyone. Great quality ingredients at a good price.
Great menu and excellent service. We tried the wings and crab dip appetizer, both were delicious. My dad got the bronzino, my wife got the lobster penne, and I got the ribeye, all excellent and cooked perfectly. Sticky toffee pudding desert was amazing and our server was great! Will definitely come back!
