What a fantastic experience! Love the atmosphere and the bar was highly energetic! Thoroughly enjoyed the Commoner Chardonnay. The wings with dipping sauce are the best wings I've ever had! The burger was very good too. They were able to substitute the Brussels Skaw for fries too! Service was great and very helpful in addressing my questions!
I could not be more pleased with our brunch experience. The food was amazing, and all of it was prepared fresh on-site. The service was great, and all the staff members we encountered were very friendly and helpful. Everything was really top-notch. I can't wait to go back again!
The food was not what I would expect from a restaurant of this price point. I ordered the ribeye and was not pleased with the quality of the meat or how it was prepared. I received muffins with my meal that were bland and tasteless. I would not go back again.
Food was great but very expensive. Three halves for a deviled eggs appetizer for $9. That’s nonsense. Drinks are astronomical in price but decently strong. It’s a good place for one-and-done experience or for a special occasion.
Good after work pub. Good food, nice selection of beers and wine. A bit noisy for my taste, but overall an enjoyable meal.
Cool atmosphere and my burger was very good. Waiter wasn’t the best, but the food runner was super nice.
Expensive for small portions
Wonderful food and service. Loved the look and ambience of the restaurant.
I have to say from my past experiences here, I was expecting better service. My group entered and wished to be seated, 3 in total. There are multiple empty seats and none have the reserved plaques on them. My group was told that since we didn’t have reservations that we couldn’t be seated. We sat at the bar and I looked at OpenTable and saw that they were open for 7 PM. I booked a reservation and we were sat quickly even though the restaurant was barely full.
I understand that tables need to be held but if that is the case I would like some sort of clearer notice rather than “reservations only”
Amazing food. Excellent service. This is the 5th time I’ve dinned here, and it was amazing ever time.
Outstanding strip steak on the Black Market special. Pricey at $40 but the portions were to match, I easily made 2 meals of it. Impeccable service. I recommend the fondue as well.
The food sounded interesting but was not executed well. Was disappointed overall after restaurant received good reviews
Our food was fine, but it blows my mind that a small breakfast for two cost $50. This is Pittsburgh- not New York or San Francisco. Service was a little slow for an empty restaurant and had to remind the waitress twice about my bacon after the rest of our meal had been in front of us for awhile. I don’t think we will be back.
Server was fantastic, food was very good but the menu was incredibly small
Had to send a burger back three times. The waiter was so embarrassed, but very attentive and gracious.
Great meal and service! Good drink selection as well
Great atmosphere, service and fabulous food.
Good for larger groups, interesting cocktail menu and outstanding food choices. We enjoyed a great meal. Some of our party ordered appetizers, some light fare and some entrees. Our server Matt was perfectly attentive.
This was my second dinner at The Commoner, and we enjoyed it very much. The menu, for me, could be a little more complex, but I did like what I ordered. My daughter, a teen, had the pork chop entree, and I had the roasted half chicken. We shared a crab dip before dinner, which was very good! Service was also very good, but the pace of the floor seemed a little off, and so we had a few gaps in service as the meal progressed. But I'll definitely return.
Delicious food, great service, and a comfortable atmosphere. We enjoyed the entire experience.
My partner and I came here for lunch on our way home from West Virginia. The noise level was minimal dispite being connected to the hotel, since there were only about five other tables dining for lunch.
Our sever, Alexis, was attentive to our needs and had a very kind personality.
We got espresso (La Colombe Roastery) and herbal tea to drink and shared the Pop Style mocktail. We started with the fondu, and split the rigatoni with lobster bolognese, as well as the side of asparagus with lemon Dijon vinaigrette.
Prices were about what I expected for this type of restaurant, although we both agreed the asparagus dish should be more substantial for the $9 it cost. It seemed a bit under seasoned as well.
Alexis comped us for the Granny Smith crostata dessert when the almond torte, which we had originally ordered, was unavailable.
Service has always been a little on the slow side, but love the atmosphere and food.
Everything really good but oh my goodness the wait for food was ridiculously long
We went for father day. My family all had something different to eat and everyone was satisfied. We had a nice time and my father even commented on how he liked the feel of the place.
Would go back and try it again. Great ambiance. A few hiccups with my meal...I ordered quiche and it came out tepid. I wasn’t sure if it was supposed to be served hot or cold because there were some spots that were cool, some that were warm and some were lukewarm. But the flavor was good. Also I ordered fruit instead of salad but they brought the salad. Nevertheless it was all good and I’d definitely go back.
Always very good food, drinks and the toffee cake is amazing. One of my favorites in Pittsburgh.
Was excited for a second time at this place but sadly was very disappointed in second experience. The appetizer was not well good, undercooked pork. Drink/Cocktail menu was so so if you enjoy mainly fruity drinks. Entree themselves were just as disappointing my date couldn’t finish her pasta due too the over bearing spice they added. My burger was not cooked evenly and hardened bun. Sever was extremely nice and she kept us from hating the evening. Again, this was a return visit but sadly the last time we will go.
Have lost 2 head chefs in under a year. 1st chef was great and award winner. 2nd chef didnt last a year. Hopefully will get a good, solid chef to right the ship.
Loved the vibe and the service at the restaurant. We had many choices while visiting Pittsburgh and we were very pleased with the food, service, etc! will definitely come back when I am in town again...
Great food, reasonable prices.
Great food, service. Very cool environment but a bit loud if you're trying to have a conversation. Personable, professional hostess. Will definitely be back.
Excellent service and a very creative menu. We enjoyed our visit.
Very good brunch spot with many food and beverage options
The beef burger I ordered was not delivered -but a lamb burger was. I was with a new employee I hired and didn’t want to make a scene- the fries were not consistently cooked - although the basket presentation was cute - but the blob of black pepper on the fries was not appreciated. Price was high for a burger and fries - nothing really would make me say - I want to go there again..
Met my friend for brunch and I brought my 5 month old son with me. The waiter was so helpful with recommendations and both our cocktails and meals were incredibly delicious. Our waiter was also very helpful and didn’t make me feel the least bit uncomfortable when I had to nurse my son discreetly at the table during the meal. We had a great time and great experience all around.
Special cocktails were great, Emma the who tended the bar was really super and knows bartending and creation of cocktails. The dinner seating is nice with a good atmosphere. As you use plates and silverware they are changed professionally. The food was good and deserts limited but nice. Would definitely come back again.
This came up on Open Table with good reviews, so we decided to try it. The ambiance was good and the food was good. Our reservations were for 4:00, so we got the brunch menu. We went with the crab dip for an appetizer and we each got a burger. Everything was very good, but it took a long time. The place was relatively empty, but it took over 45 minutes for burgers. It was odd. Other than that, all was well. I think if the place got really busy, it could get pretty noisy, but I can’t say for sure since it was in the middle of the afternoon.
Great place to grab lunch with family mid-afternoon on a Saturday in Pittsburgh. Our waiter Dominick Carnervali provided excellent service, food and spirits recommendation and added to the overall experience.
We were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary and our son and daughter in laws 9th Anniversary. It was mine and my husbands first time dining at the Commoner and really enjoyed ourselves. Food was outstanding as was our server Hannah.
Service by server was impeccable. Shrimp added to ceased salad was the best I have ever had anywhere. Going to try to go home & replicate shrimp. Wanted a vodka drink with lemonade. Server suggested a cucumber vodka with lemonade & mint. So good, I had 2! Friends ended up joining & we ordered 2 desserts- sticky toffee & apple one. Couldn’t pick which I like better. Think I’d have to order both next time too. 2nd time there (last time for brunch). Great experiences both times.
