It was a lovely dinner. I thought the scallops were amazing!
The most beautiful restaurant/bar in the Twin Cities..at least that I've been to...and the food is very good. We took friends from Edina who had never been to the Commodore and our only complaint was having to abandon the dining room, where our reservation was, for the bar. The noise level in the dr is way too high for comfortable conversation; bar was much better though still plenty energetic on the rating scale. Excellent scallops for me; don't remember what others ate.
Food was very tasty but expensive. It just seems that you could serve this same quality for less. The price point makes it a place wed visit only on special occassions.
The food was good, but not excellent. What should have been hot arrived tepid on cold plates. The restaurant does not offer espresso. The Fitzgerald cocktail was very good. I would return only for cocktails; not for a meal.
Have gone to the Commodore a handful of times now and it has never disappointed. Delicious food and a fun setting.
Fabulous staff. Good food and a fun evening. I would do it again and again. There are food options from great fries to lobster deviled eggs to steak tartare.
Attentive service. Great food and cocktails. Great atmosphere. Good place to talk. A wide variety of price points.
Excellent service with affordable wine list. Our server was a real professsional. Food was wonderfull.
Our server was excellent. Attentive, competent but not overbearing. We ordered scallops, cauliflower, Bacon wrapped dates. Still raving about the food. Ambience was conducive to a nice date.
We had an amazing dinner experience with great food and wonderful service. I contacted the manager regarding an unpleasant experience with the hosts found in the hallway gossiping about our table being late, and that we could not transfer a bar tab to the table, though in his response he claimed that should have been an option. While we found the food memorable, and our server professional, I felt that the lack of management presence and training diluted the experience, and for that reason I found it lacking in value as well.
Have been wanting to try the Commodore for some time, and with a friend's birthday was the perfect occasion. Service was attentive without being intrusive - drinks and food were exceptional, and the overall atmosphere was perfect for a special occasion - plan on coming back for time at the (2) spacious, but comfortable bar areas.
Great food, and wonderful service. Easy to park and would gladly come back.
We went here on a Tuesday night to celebrate my wife's birthday. There are a number of dining "rooms" but we were seated in the main one. Even though it was only 2/3 full, it was quite loud. Conversation was not easy but we managed. Patrons were a mixed bag age-wise and dress, too, with some men in jackets and others in jeans. The other dining rooms offered more in the way of "retro/F Scott Fitzgerald" vibe, but those rooms featured lower tables (e.g. not specifically dining but more like cocktails and bar food). We did have to wait a little while (between 5 and 10 minutes) before our server came by, but once she did, service was exemplary with well-paced courses and a mixture of attentiveness and warmth. She had to wait on a very large group (looked like 15 or so) so obviously her attention went to them a lot. But, as I said, once we got the ball rolling, all went smoothly. We each ordered a before dinner drink (a Vesper and a mojito) and they were fine - my wife liked her mojito more than I did my Vesper. We started with the lobster deviled eggs which were tasty but there wasn't much lobster flavor to them (but they were still very good). My wife had the sea scallops and they were done to perfection (and I cook scallops a lot so I know a good sear when I see one). I had the curried cauliflower and no, I am neither a vegan or vegetarian. But it sounded intriguing and I am thrilled I ordered it because it was fantastic. One of the most creative and delicious meals I have had out in years. We finished with the brown butter cake which was a nice ending. In conclusion, other than the noise level, The Commodore is a solid spot for special occasion dining (I use special occasion due to the pricing; our meal and tip came to about $160 - we each had a glass of wine with dinner, too). My only reservation is the noise level in the main dining room. If you don't need to sit at a normal dining table, consider one of the other rooms.
The noise level in the main dining room is high enough to make conversation difficult. Too many hard surfaces reflecting sounds. Management needs to evaluate the cheapest way to install noise absorbing panels to lower the background noise.
Our waiter Mark crushed the evening with kindness, knowledge, great service and took great care of us!
Exceptional service and cuisine. Nostalgic and romantic atmosphere. A fun time travel experience in a historic setting. A perfect location for anniversaries and special occasions.
Great history with this place, back to my parents' wedding in the 40's, meeting our friend's wife to be in the 80's. Slow roasted salmon and tenderloin were fabulous. Love the lobster deviled eggs. Charming server, tho it seemed the kitchen got backed up around desert. Birthday desert was comped- a nice gesture. Definitely will return for cocktails, dinner when we can afford it!
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Loved the history. Great food and great service!
Enjoyed our 46th wedding anniversary at the Commodore. Wonderful ambiance, food and drink. Service was excellent. Quite pricey, but worth it for a special occasion. Only problem we could find was the noise level. It became difficult at times to carry on our conversation because we couldn't hear each other. Still, a wonderful experience.
Always love coming for any celebration
Excellent dining experience. Very unique dining experience. Not many of these left in town.
Loved the atmosphere & layout. Great Service.
Food was delicious. Drinks at bar were also very good. Could have been a better selection of tapas on bar menu such as olive, nuts, cheese to go with drinks. I especially like the avacodo toast toast that is not on menue anymore. Also the noise level was so high we almost had to shout to hear each other. All in all, my husband and I will be back!
Food was fabulous but very disPPOINTED ALL THEY GIVE YOU FOR A BIRTHDAY TREAT IS A CANDLE THAT THEY LIGHT. WHAT GIVES WITH THAT? WOULD IT BREAK THEIR BANK TO OFFER A BIRTHDAY DESSERT?
The Steak Tartar was one of the best things I have ever eaten! Outstanding!
My husband and I love the Commodore! Everything about it is perfection! The food, wait staff, cocktails and ambiance are wonderful!
Our return visit to The Commodore had it's highs and lows. We love the ambience and the 1920/30s vibe, and the location is perfect for a meal before a show at the Xcel. We were seated right away at our reserved time (though unfortunately, right next to a table of three men, one of whom had a very loud voice, especially after enjoying a few cocktails). Our server was very accommodating when we let him know we were on a timeline for a show. He suggested we opt for either an appetizer or salad course (not both) to ensure we would be on schedule.
For our appetizer, we ordered the Chet's Tartare, and the offering for the evening happened to be our favorite, beef tartare. Made from fresh beef tenderloin served with sliced toast baguette and microgreens, it was absolutely delicious! So much so that we could have ordered several more and called it a meal!. Alas, our entrees were a bit of a letdown after the incredible start. My husband's Pork Schnitzel was just "so so" piled on the plate, and my Sole with Brown Butter was an interesting combination of tastes, to say the least. The fish, which was plated on a bed of wild rice started nice and crisp, but it was topped with crab salad (?) and a smear of avocado puree to garnish the plate (??). The combination of lightly pan-fried fish with a heavy crab salad and dense avocado paste did not complement; a simple presentation with crispy filet and wild rice and steamed vegetables on the side might better highlight the light flavor of the fish. We did finish our meal with plenty of time for the show and will consider a return visit at the bar for appetizers.
We are so lucky to have this very nice restaurant in our neighborhood. Love the setting, good food and drinks and great service. Had a wonderful time, will be back.
One of our all-time favorite places to visit. LOVE the ambiance, especially the F.Scott Fitzgerald connection. Just one tweek, please, regarding menu. "sandwiches" were not up to standards. Processed meats, bad buns, too much sauce. Disappointing. Other entrees were EXCELLENT. My Filet of Sole, e.g. was superb!
Table was waiting when we arrived. Our server, Jeff, was waiting to take our drink order. He was knowledgeable and never rushed us. We had relaxing wonderful dinner. We will go back soon!
Everything was outstanding. Kudos to the chef. The cauliflower bisque was unbelievable.
The Dining Room and Bar are beautiful.
I can't wait to bring back some friends and do it all over again.
Excellent food and attentive service in an architecturally-stunning location.
The bar area has much more character than the dinning room and also has a more tolerable noise level.
Our waiter, Jeff, was great! Food & drinks were all great. Very nice evening.
Our meals were excellent, the wine list was remarkably good, the server was attentive and the setting was tasteful. Other than the noise level being a bit high we have no complaints and had a wonderful evening. We will return!
most attractive return in the twin cities. But would love to have some jazz music to fill out the scene
We just went for our anniversary. I had never even heard of this place but found it just doing some internet browsing. The food, service, history, everything was beyond expectations. Can't wait to go back!
Hands down one of the BEST Restaurants we have been to in the Twin Cities.
We will definitely be back soon.
Very impressed all around.
Very enjoyable evening out with 3 of my sisters and 2 nieces. We all loved the unique art-deco atmosphere and the food was delicious.
Excellent! We celebrated 3 birthdays!! Awesome restaurant for a celebration!!
It was fun to experience the restaurant after hearing so much about it. The food was very good and the staff was fabulous- from the person who greeted us, to the bartender to the wait staff. Great recommendations for meals.
