This is at least my sixth time at Comissary and they never disappoint. Not only is the food very innovative and delicious but the service is professional and friendly. You really feel as if everyone on the staff is glad to see you and wants you to enjoy your time there.
Wonderful place for Mother's Day Brunch, comfortable dinning area. Delicious brunch items and attentive service.
We ate in the private dining room. It was a special room, perfect fir a birthday celebration!
This was our first trip to Commissary, but we are regulars at Jardiniere for after opera dining. We will certainly be back...where else in the city is the noise level reasonable and there is gobs of parking and a fine dining menu.
The only glitch is that when we were taken to our table, it was in the open kitchen which has only stool seating. For physical reasons that is simply not possible for us. But we are very early diners, so the hostess was able to come up with a great two-top in the main dining area. Just something to be aware of if you are making reservations and have the same requirements.
Great! Grwat, great, great, great, great, great, great great, great, greatest!
The commissary is absolutely greatness the staff is professional and friendly, the food is delicious, drinks are great. Not the cheapest place I have ever been to in San Francisco but definitely in line with a good restaurant in the city. Totally worth it and will totally go back
On a busy Weekend evening kitchen was extremely slow and the wait staff were overwhelmed. Like the setting and most of the food. Would like more choices in entrees!
First time at the Commissary last Saturday night with family. We loved the atmosphere, especially in the room with the open kitchen, and the staff was so accommodating and
friendly with the two grandchildren with us. We ordered several things to share and everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned and just delicious! Since we ended up with almost everything on the menu, I can say that you can't go wrong. We were there a long time but
never felt hurried. And a big plus is the parking available around the parade ground! So all in all it is convenient, attractive, with great food and service. I highly recommend!
It was wonderful as always.
Delicious and great fun. Try to get a high table in the kitchen area if you are 6 or fewer. Otherwise sit at the kitchen counter and watch the chefs.
I've been here three times, and the food has been equally excellent every time. They're accommodating with food allergies (I'm very allergic to gluten), and they are thorough about asking the chef for substitutions. If you sit at the back bar, you can watch them cook and ask as many questions as you want. They're very gracious about it, and they'll even give small tastes sometimes. The cocktails are nice, the wine list is unique and I always enjoy it! Just know that the menu is very small so if you need a lot of choice, they don't have it. That being said, they always have a veggie option, seafood and meat option, and what they do have is always good!
This was my second visit in two years and I preferred the restaurant this time. The waiter was very helpful guiding my friend and I through the menu and the signature dishes worth trying.
The food and cocktails were amazing, and the service was spectacular! Excellent spot for a date night.
Outstanding as usual! Thank you for makiing one of my dearest friends feel special on her birthday. Can't wait to come back!
The experience we had on Saturday night was outstanding! We sat at the chefs counter so much fun the food and service were top notch. The food was so creative and delicious. I eat at some of the top restaurants in the city for business quite frequently I am already calling clients for a dinner.
The service was slow
Extremely limited brunch menu, tiny portions, ridiculous prices. Otherwise, food was great!
The pastry chef is amazing!!! However we were sat at the bar watching the kitchen and it was loud and hot. They should ask if that is where you want to sit.
Most of the food was exceptional but the short ribs were tougher than I expected.
Nice ambiance and service. We sat at the bar, where we could watch the chefs cook, and that was interesting, though hectic. Food was good, without ever quite taking off into remarkable territory. Patatas bravas were fine but uninspired. A veggie ceviche was citrusy and intriguing, with a nice crunchiness. The chicken with pistachios was a solid entree with the pistachios and sauce adding interest, and the dessert with strawberry macaron and chocolate cake was the highlight, delicate and subtle. Cocktails were good as well. Menu changes often; so not sure how much this helps.
This is my third dinner at The Commissary in 6 months. What brings me back is the incredibly creative and interesting food, wine options and crafted cocktail. The locations is also special and fun to visit.
But we found the food to be excellent, mixing many influences from Spain, Mexico and California to create unique combinations and flavors based on classic dishes. A culinary experience of first order.
Amazing food. So creative in taste and texture. Fairly expensive overall. Perfect atmosphere.
We enjoyed the counter and watching our meal being prepared. The food was delicious an the service very good although the food took a bit to get out. I just meant my friend and I had more time to catch up.
really, really expensive. the food is quite good, but overall it's not a very good value
Overrated and overpriced. Setting in the presidio is amazing and the staff are great. Unfortunately the food just doesn’t live up to the settings.
Great location, excellent food in a beautiful and understated setting
2nd time there. My wife liked the specialty cocktails so we returned.
First of all, our waiter (John?) was excellent. The rest of the staff was gracious. It seemed like we had to wait an inordinate amount of time for cocktails … and then the wine. It came as we were finishing our meal. I don’t think it was our waiter’s fault: my wife saw him return to the bar multiple times to check & our drinks weren’t ready. And it wasn’t even crowded.
I had the spare rib. Tasty but tiny. I wound up having a snack when I got home. The dessert menu seemed uninteresting. How about a piece of cake?
Don’t get me wrong. I had a good time & enjoyed the experience, but you probably could’ve sold a couple more drinks if your bartender was on the ball.
Very good food. We would have like to have eaten in front of the chef but didn’t know it was an option until it was too late to move.
Otherwise it was an excellent restaurant and the food was extraordinary. Good value cause even though on the more expensive side of restaurants the entrees were very good large size.
Always a treat to dine at the commissary. Lovely service and excellent menu. Will be back!
Delicious dinner of octopus. Even if the thought creeps you out, you should try it.
The food was not anything extra special, but when it was all said and done the four of us ladies decided that the 'Plates to Share' was a rip-off.
Perfect. Chef and Tessa have a great thing going at The Commissary. Canary Islands octopus is must order. Service is always excellent reflecting good hires and training. Cocktails are sublime.
We went to celebrate a special occasion and were treated exceptionally well by a highly professional and friendly staff. The food, wine and cocktails were excellent.
When all you talk about during dinner is how amazing the food is, from presentation to flavor, and nothing else matters at that moment , not even work or family or personal drama, you know the place is the real deal and you feel like you have reached a state of nirvana. That’s how it felt like being at The Commissary for two hours. Thank you for a fabulous and unforgettable culinary experience.
Great. The new chef if a winner
We went to the Commissary to celebrate a friends birthday. They provided menus with a special notation printed on top stating this was a celebratory birthday meal for "Fred,"-a really classy touch. The service was excellent, all four meals outstandingly prepared and presented. This was the second time we visited the Commissary-both were outstanding. And, the location in the middle of the Presidio is special.
Went here for a belated Valentine's day celebration and it was just perfect for such an occasion. The best meal we've had in long time. The things we enjoyed the most were the cocktails, the atmosphere, the cheese fritters, and the chocolate souffle. We also very much enjoyed the whole red snapper and the asparagus and cauliflower tlacoyo. Finally by sitting at the bar area near the kitchen we were able to see all the ins and outs of how the food was being prepared, and it was very interesting to watch. I am already looking forward to our next visit.
We were able to sit at the counter in the kitchen. What a wonderful experience!! My husband had the potato crusted sea bass. He said it was pretty much perfect. I had the short ribs and they were terrific. The sauce was incredible. To finish we shared the chocolate souffle. A great way to end such a delicious meal. Service is excellent.
Fish was a bit dry-touch over cooked
Bread and goat mousse: -wish bread was lighter and more got mousse
Buratta was great.
Dessert station at observation bar has chef spray Non-stick oil at diner.
Churro dessert was amazing.
Waiter mixed up our teas when we re-ordered otherwise service was top notch . Very pleasant staff and observation kitchen is really fun.
Noise level was good given we were sitting at the bar.
They called two days in advance to see what we were celebrating. When we arrived, the menu was customized for the occasion, making it really special. The birthday boy even received dessert. Thank you!
The service sucked but we really enjoyed the food. The fried cheese balls with truffle honey, the papas bravas, and the octopus were amazing. The chocolate pasta was too heavy - almost doughy and the short ribs were a bit tough - a steak would have tasted better if one wanted beef. The service was very slow. We were there almost an hour before the waiter took our order and that was only after we complained. I will return again but the service is much better at the chef’s counter where I’ve sat before.
