The Commissary is offered by James Beard award-winning chef Traci Des Jardins and the Presidio Trust. Its Spanish-influenced California cuisine is driven by sustainable, locally-sourced ingredients, true to Chef Traci’s culinary philosophy. The menu is comprised of a variety of shareable, tapas-style dishes and larger "raciones".

The restaurant pairs authentic Presidio elements – such as lighting fixtures reclaimed from a historic Army gymnasium and Douglas Fir table tops fashioned from salvaged wood – with a comfortable, contemporary design. In additional to traditional and bar seating, the Commissary features dining on the shaded front porch, and “Chef's counter” seating surrounding an open kitchen where guests can watch the chefs in action.

The Commissary is a destination unto itself or a wonderful place to enjoy a meal after a day in the park.

The perfect staycation. 1.5 to 2 hours in beautiful Presido National Park. Bi-weekly get-away and you won’t miss a real vacation. Looking forward to dinner on a really foggy night.

We enjoyed a delightful family dinner before going to Kol Nidre services. The service was good but I felt our server had too many tables to attend to, and so our third order of bread and sublime butter came at the same time as dessert. We loved the mushroom side dish and duck. The cheese fritters were a disappointment. But overall, an excellent meal.

Food and service were excellent and we had a good experience for our first visit. Only drawback is that there is a restaurant of the same name in the Financial District and all the apps want to send cars to that destination.

Food, good appetizer/small plates, fish very good, steak really not good. The steak was tough, full of gristle, and basically tasteless. Music was intrusive, all you heard was thumping bass. Noise level was not horrible except for the music.

Very relaxed place with a great vibe. Our server was excellent. This is a great place for a special occasion, as it's very expensive, but the food was very good. My halibut was delish, expect most portions to be smaller than some restaurants, but very yummy. The specialty drinks were very good too.

Exceptionally entertaining to dine at the counter in the exposition kitchen. Highly recommended. Kitchen a little backlogged that evening, but the manager said he'd make it right, and he did.

Service was prompt and friendly. Food was fantastic, especially the cured kampachi and the sautéed mushrooms with spinach and sherry(my husband talked about them for DAYS after). Would recommend, and revisit should we find ourselves in the area again!

I had forgotten how much I love The Commissary. The menu offers unique choices that are beyond delicious. Not to be missed is the homemade bread. Expect to order another after the first. The cocktails are tasty and fun and the wine menu extensive enough to please every guest. You will feel pampered and satisfied after an evening at The Commissary. It's not cheap but well worth it for the meal and drinks provided.

Great find! Quiet location in the big city, easy parking, relaxed pleasant atmosphere and staff.
Potato Croquette - we paid attention to our wait person and ordered two - we were very pleased! Excellent.
I had the roasted duck "confit" it wasn't what I think of as duck confit - it was not a thigh & leg - it was a beautifully rare roasted, served sliced duck breast - excellent served with greens and stone fruit. Loved it. Partner had the Halibit which was very fresh and beautifully served. Would go back again both for the food
and for their excellent selection of sherry wines you rarely find in the US.

Exceptional food served in a relaxed but sophisticated venue. Food was on par with some of the best restaurants in San Francisco such as Boulevard and the former Des Jardins.

Wait staff was attentive and food courses were appropriately spaced out.

I look forward to returning soon. Overall great dining experience.

Always enjoy dine at the Commissary. This time around, I had three young children with us for the dinner. The restaurant was surprisingly kids friendly. Ventilation can be enhanced at the main dining room.

We had a wonderful evening at a high table just by the kitchen, so it is a totally foody atmosphere, and the food lived up to this. Delicious! We had a knowledgable, friendly and efficient waiter and had an all round lovely dinner!

I took my very good friend to the Commissary for his birthday. He had never been. Everything was top notch; from the food to the service to the ambiance. It is pricey but well worth every penny. If you want to celebrate a special occasion, this is the restaurant to do it at. My friend loved his personalized menu in honor of his birthday.

My girlfriend and I absolutley loved The Commissary! We got the opportunity to sit at the 'Chef's Counter' and it was an amazing experience! Watching the cooks cook everyone's dinner including ours only 4 feet away and truly exciting! I highly recommend The Commissary to everyone and to also sit at the Chef's Counter!

Everything was just perfect. Starting with the seating, they graciously accommodated our seating request. They also do a small thing; they pull the empty seats from tables. So if you're a party of 3 at a 4 top, they take the fourth chair. Probably something most people don't even notice, but those small details are not lost on me! But on to the food, so delicious. We had the little gem salad, perfectly lightly dressed with flavors that really came through without having to be heavily laden in dressing. Entrees were the New York steak and the duck. They were prepared just as we had asked and were full of flavor. The melange of vegetables under the duck was incredible. A side of squash was delicious. For dessert we had the ice cream that had espresso and snickerdoodles in it. Oh wow, the best ice cream I've ever had in my life. Service was excellent. Love the decor of modern retro. We'll be back!!

Interesting menu, good food, well prepared, but somewhat clumsy service. Drink order confused (red sangria brought instead of white), salad ordered exclusively by one person delivered to center of table with extra utensils for all to share, entrees delivered sequentially, rather than simultaneously. Sparkling water offered with still, but then charged at $5 per glass.

Definitely overpriced. They served us some olives that were warm and didn't taste good. We ordered some octopus and the quality was not even that high. We also ordered some trout and it was a bit overcooked and served with bacon: a fundamental rule of any good restaurant is that fish and meat should not be served together. The wine was served in a glass that was very wide and after few minutes it was not sparkling anymore. Finally, the dessert was actually good, we ordered the hazelnut cake. We spent $108 for two people. It was definitely overpriced considering that with the same amount we can get much better food in the city. Last note: the table close to ours was very loud and we could not even hear my partner talking!

Service was a little slow, but overall very nice hostess and food was OUTSTANDING!!!! The grilled octopus was excellent!!! Not overcooked very tender. Melt in your mouth.

This was our first time eating here and it was a great experience. We drove to the city and there is plenty of parking which is rare in SF. We decided to sit at the counter so we could watch the chefs prepare the various courses. The kitchen is very well run and efficient. The food is delicious, the portions are fair, and the service was excellent. Did I mention the parking! It was nice not to have to drive around for 15 minutes, walk a couple of blocks and hope your vehicle will be in the same condition as you left it or pay for an Uber or valet.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Commissary. We chose counter seating, which meant we got to watch the chefs construct the dishes, which was quite entertaining (and I picked up a couple of cheffy tricks). We started with The braised heritage pork toast, which was a riff on pulled pork and delicious. We opted for two entrees, roasted chicken and beef short ribs. Both were excellent, but the short ribs on a white bean purée was the star. We’d saved room for dessert and treated ourselves to Creme brûlée (which was right up there with the best we’ve had) and churros with chocolate sauce..yummy. Highly recommend the counter seating to enjoy the ambience of a well-run restaurant to the fullest.

What a lovely place! The food was excellent - beautifully sophisticated without unnecessary fussiness. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, and the setting and ambiance are fantastic. Definitely would recommend it. The locals we dined with were equally impressed, and said they planned to make it their new special occasion dining destination.

The Commissary is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. It is a hidden gem in the Presidio, one of the most beautiful pieces of property on earth. You can drive there and park, no problem. But the real beauty is once you step inside. A beautiful space, creative, delicious food, unexpected specialty cocktails, and bar seating overlooking the chefs. Amazing all around. Never fails to impress. Manages to be both super romantic, and at the same time perfect for a work function too. I love it.

We booked this restaurant to celebrate our first anniversary, and couldn't have been more pleased. I had mentioned it was our anniversary when making the reservation on OpenTable and when we arrived, the hostess not only congratulated us, but provided us with personalized menus that had "Happy Anniversary" printed at the top. Throughout our evening, servers stopped by to congratulate us. The service was some of the best we'd ever had, the personalized touches were amazing, and the experience made us feel special and well cared-for. I am gluten-free, and the server made recommendations about which dishes to order (though many of the dishes were already gluten free or had a GF option, which made it easy!) The food was absolutely fantastic; my husband said it was the best steak he'd ever had. I was equally pleased with the roasted chicken. We topped it off with two desserts, both of which were amazing. Overall, the meal left us feeling full but not stuffed or heavy. The entire experience-- topped off by surprising and excellent service-- was absolutely fantastic. We will be back!

A carefully curated menu, everything was delicious. We especially enjoyed the shishito peppers and sourdough bread, hamachi collar, porchetta, and the Spanish torrejas with buttermilk ice cream. Service was perfect and the dining room is spacious. Great wine list and craft cocktails. A wonderful dining experience!
