About
The restaurant pairs authentic Presidio elements – such as lighting fixtures reclaimed from a historic Army gymnasium and Douglas Fir table tops fashioned from salvaged wood – with a comfortable, contemporary design. In additional to traditional and bar seating, the Commissary features dining on the shaded front porch, and “Chef's counter” seating surrounding an open kitchen where guests can watch the chefs in action.
The Commissary is a destination unto itself or a wonderful place to enjoy a meal after a day in the park.

Everything was excellent!
We are so grateful you enjoyed your visit. We hope to welcome you back soon.
Whenever I go to a place in California that specializes in tapas I am disappointed. For tapas I expect the simplicity I experienced in Spain many years ago - just small bites of freshly prepared, uncomplicated snacks.
Instead I am presented with a menu of overwrought, overthought and overpriced dishes, with many ingredients but no outstanding flavors. I wish I could say The Commissary is the exception, but alas, no. My potato croquette was in fact tasty, but at $12 for one very small croquette with caviar and creme fraiche, this no longer simple fare. My octopus with chorizo and olives was tough, and bland. The braised chicken was tender, but not memorable. Then there is the wine list. When wine prices start at $60 I just feel ripped off. If the price had been as modest as the wine, I might have been happier.
Delicious food, small portions, and high price tag. Not an especially great value for the price.
We ate at the counter. The dining room is VERY noisy, but you can actually carry on a conversation in the back kitchen area.
This was our first time. The food was very good. We had green salad which was unique presentation and quite good. Main course was patrole sole and chicken. Again very good. Free parking.
Amazing food .
Excellent on all accounts.
Good cocktails, but the food was remarkably bland. The sole was overcooked.
Great venue. Lots of history in the Presidio.
food and service were very good and I will go back gain
Over seasoned. Love the spot. Great service.
Maybe my tastes changed - everything is over seasoned and I can taste the freshness of the meal.
Service had a very nice vibe. Interesting delicious dishes, moderate to small portions (tapas). Tasty unusual cocktails.
Normally great but service was off . Really love the food and cocktails.
Delightful as always!
I love this restaurant. It's beautiful, parking is easy. And it's quiet! Even when its full, you can still hear your companions in conversation. The food is consistently good - though our entrees were not all exceptional. My steak was delicious - but not a stand out from good steaks at other restaurants. The vegetarian dish was actually the big hit in our party of 4.
Cocktails are definitely outstanding. And service excellent.
We will definitely be back.
Portions were extremely small--e.g. a salad had 3 -4 leafs of lettuce. Four adults had four different dishes--only one of the four felt food was superior--other 3 thought average at best.
Eat in the "kitchen" if you can! Excellent food and service!
Waiter was fabulous but, as always, food delivery was slooooooooowwwwww
Food is always amazing and I love sitting at the counter and watching the cooks prepare the plates. Been several times and it's consistently great in terms of food, service and ambiance.
I was checking this out for a rehearsal dinner venue. We loved it and have booked out the restaurant
After going to Jardiniere every year, we are spoiled.
Three of us wanted to sit in the kitchen. They very thoughtfully gave us a corner of the long bar that surrounds the kitchen. It’s fascinating to watch their team build each plate to perfection. I had Petrale. Even the pearl onions were outstanding. Duck was a different delicious presentation. I started with melt in your mouth octopus.
Great food - creative, flavorful, and well-prepared. Fun drink menu, especially if you like bourbon etc., but a nice wine list as well. Most plates are easy to share (and it's more fun that way!). The vegetarian dish wasn't quite as interesting as it sounded - could have had more of a variety of veggies, but the bomba rice was really good.
Always have a good experience here. My favorite place to sit is in the back around the kitchen.
Homey quiet feel in the Presidio. Draws locals and not tourists. Food and drinks are creative and well prepared but not over architected. Pricey for a comfortable family dinner or couples outing. But it is San Francisco pricing for quality food. Two had duck and two had fish and all were thrilled
Loved the New Year’s Eve menu. A few minor hiccups- we were served the oysters and the amuse course shortly after ordering cocktails. We asked the server to bring the food after our cocktails arrived - which they did about 30 seconds after we got our drinks. The first few courses seemed to arrive too quickly but then the pacing slowed down, thankfully. As for the food it was creative and tasty. For me the sun choke veloute clashed a bit with the pickled mushrooms but my husband liked the contrast. The diver scallop dish was tasty but we both thought the sauce was over-salted. Enjoyed the duck confit but we’re surprised the duck ( which got first billing in the ingredient listing) was a mini portion and the greens looked less like chicory and more like something else. The dessert was good but I thought the chocolate cake was a tad dry. Loved the steak course. Wish there was a bread option to sop up the various sauces. All in all a nice evening. Guess I expected perfection instead of almost perfect.
My family and I were out celebrating our parents 40th Wedding Anniversary. We spent a lovely day in the Presidio and couldn’t have asked for a better ending to it by having dinner at The Commissary.
It was our first time here and I have to say it was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. My parents are hard to please when it comes to dining out and they both left happy and impressed with the service, food, and personal attention to detail. I couldn’t have been more grateful to the staff for creating such a special experience for my parents.
The restaurant took the time out to personalize our menus for the occasion and treated us like VIP customers, which far exceeded our expectations. Our waiter was also extremely knowledgeable, warm and friendly. Service quality is at the top of my list when it comes to dining out anywhere. I will definitely return and recommend this beautiful establishment to anyone looking for a special place to escape to.
Loved everything about it... food, ambiance and service. In fact, so much that we dined there again the following night!
The food is delicious but the portions are unreasonable small. For example a friend ordered the such entree and for $33 got only duck, some sauce and some micros greens and aloe if empty space on a big plate. I ordered the vegetarian entree and over half my plate was empty! The delicious veggie Seminole and tempura mushrooms were tiny morsels in half the plate, literally the other half was empty! Really for 24 dollars a plate of veggie food they could do better! Disappointed with portion size and prices, but the taste is good.
I’ve never seen a group of cooks touch food so much. Really gross that the Chef was spearing numerous steaks with the same temperature barb... after he has been inserting the bard into his mouth to check the temperature??
Lovely weeknight dinner. Great food nice service.
Love this restaurant ! It's one of the few places in San Francisco where you can dine comfortably because this place is huge! we never felt rushed, so we got to enjoy the good food and an actual conversation without straining to hear each other. Service is really good - very attentive servers who knew the evening's menu well. Too bad they don't open for lunch - I bet this place is equally nice during the day.
Love the place. I highly recommend it. My only complaint was that our food was a little slow in coming. Other than that the room is great, the kitchen counter very fun, food outstanding. Definetly go.
Pricey and limited menu
An absolute stunner of a Restaurant! Can't say enough about the service, the atmosphere and of course the FOOD! I highly recommend you sit at the chefs table, its makes for a great experience. Thank you Commissary for the delicious Amuse buse and the great care you give.
Yes. Friendly, attentive staff, good food, pleasant atmosphere.
The only complaint is the address . it is in the old military base and there is the same address in town.they need to give you a heads up on the web site. I taxi driver had a kitten trying to get me to the correct address. Once there (late) all was fantastic.
This was our second night at the Commisary. This time just the two of us and we sat at the kitchen counter. It is great to watch the performance of the chefs and to see our dishes being prepared! And, Traci was in the kitchen and stopped ove to say hi and chat. All in all, a near perfect dining out experience.
Great service, esp since I’m disabled. They took care of me well. Drinks and food (we only did small plates so can’t speak to entrees) all excellent. Pace and vibe on a Thurs nite invited hanging out, which wait staff was happy to accommodate.
The perfect staycation. 1.5 to 2 hours in beautiful Presido National Park. Bi-weekly get-away and you won’t miss a real vacation. Looking forward to dinner on a really foggy night.
Food was unimaginative. Service was fine prices were typically high. The room and bar were lovely.
