The Colosseum Restaurant
Raphael our server was excellent. The food was delicious and arrived hot!! We never felt rushed at anytime.
Excellent food and service. The dessert....red velvet cake....was dry. Men's room was a mess. We will be back.
Food was fantastic and the service was excellent. We will definitely return for more.
The service was awful. We waited forever for the server to greet us and then we continued to wait for long periods of time for everything. The restaurant was only about 30 % full at the time of our arrival and it only became more empty as the night went on. We observed a couple arrive and be seated and they waited so long that they got up and left. Their menus that they left on their table were never picked up and the table was never rearranged. The staff was never on the floor unless they were delivering food or drinks. No one checked on the tables. We were served appetizers and salad and my husband needed a fork. We saw our waitress after 5 minutes of waiting and asked for a fork, she took off and returned 3 minutes later with my glass of wine but still did not have a fork for my husband. We asked her again and this time she took one from a clean table. I asked her why all of the service was so slow (she had apologized) and her excuse was that it was busy and it had been very busy earlier. Well, we had been there for over an hour and we had never seen it busy at all. A restaurant should never use, “busy” as an excuse. Restaurants on a Saturday nights are supposed to be busy! The staff is supposed to be able to work efficiently and perfectly when busy. The host and hostess were very nice upon our arrival however they just hung around and did not seem to notice or care when we were not getting any service. They didn’t notice that other couple, sitting and waiting to be greeted. The host left for the evening after about an hour and then the hostess sat down and had her dinner. A server stood at the front desk during this time. It seems that the staff is very unprofessional and does not care about the guests. There didn’t seem to be anyone in charge. As far as the food is concerned, it was mediocre/fair and a couple items were okay/good. The music playing was not appropriate for a restaurant. It was too upbeat for dinner.
We felt a little rushed in ordering apps and meal (waitress was new). Had to ask for lemon for my water four times before it arrived. Food was ok but wished there were more grilled (fish) offerings for people who don’t want pasta with every protein. The interior is a bit dated and the bathroom door could be cleaner. Had been a while since we were there and felt attention to details was lacking.
Excellent Italian food. Recommend it highly. Lovely waitress.
the manager let us try their homemade lemoncello it was amazing! the bartender and manager were very friendly and the food was delicious and the portions were huge. My husband loved it and coouldn't believe I had never suggested this place before!
Had not been back there in quite some time. A lot of competition in the area.
We were very pleased with food and will be back sooner in the future.
Had reservations but they were running behind so we decided to sit at the bar.
It was a good choice, service was great, bartender was really friendly and helpful.
We are very happy that we decided to go there and will be back again soon.
The restaurant was very busy and we were assigned a new waiter, and he was excellent.
Authentic and classic Italian food. Fresh ingredients means excellent flavors.
Sal is the best bartender
The meals were not as hot as hoped for, although the server and the hostess made our visit very comfortable . It seemed to be very quite for a Thursday night I thought it would be much more busy than what it was. Overall we enjoyed and most likely would go back some other time.
Our Saturday night dinner with our cousins was absolutely outstanding! The food was fresh, authentic Italian at its best, and it tasted great. The waitstaff did a wonderful job too. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves all the way around. We recommend the COLOSSEUM RESTAURANT highly to anyone looking for a great night out!
My husband and I used to be regulars when we lived in the area. Even though we haven’t been there in 20 years, the owners and staff still remembered us! The food was great, service outstanding and the occasion of my husbands 60th birthday went wonderfully. I would definitely recommend the Colosseum to anyone!
Nothing spectacular about the experience. Food was fine, portions were good. It ran through me an hour later :-(
Started off with flat diet coke in Rum and Coke cocktail. Appetizers were ok. The main course was not very good. My husband requested linguini with his chicken marsala and was brought a doughy squiggly pasta in its place which he did not request and did not like.
We have been visiting for 30 yrs, always consistently good food. Old school authentic Italian food, Not pretentious , just quality. The tableside Caesar salad is perfect, a dying art and the same prep from year to year is well taught .
Eggpjant parm was light and perfectly sauced, chicken colosseum delicate and flavorful, lasagne a great medley of flavor. A better wine list would be nice but not an issue.
Food is high end , nice simple decor, their location in Salem NH does not match the excellent food but we make the drive 45 min . even with dozens of other restaurants in Salem , it is our first choice.
Nice atmosphere, food was good with large portions and easy access from highway. Servers were good but slow.
We thought the food to be very good. The bread with the meal was of superior quality. The service was very slow however. They warn you on the menu that it takes a while to get your meal because everything is “made to order” but the same is the true for most good restaurants. But even after the meal there were long periods of time of waiting for the dessert tray, the check, etc. I do not blame the waitstaff for this. It was very busy and they seemed to be understaffed.
We had Easter Sunday dinner here and the service and food was wonderful...our server was Paul and we tried lots of appetizers and dinner items...we will return another time for sure!!
The service was good. The food was okay. The dessert was really good.
Arrived about and hour before reservation, notified host went for a before dinner drink in the lounge. Lounge service was prompt and waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Owner dropped by table to welcome us and Host alerted us when table was ready (at the scheduled time). Waitress was prompt and efficient and each course was spaced appropriately. I had the Veal Parm and my wife had the Chicken Piccata, both of which were excellent. This was my third visit here and it was probably the best yet. Will be back again.
The food is always amazing and the desserts are so worth the calories. Highly recommend!
The restaurant has been part of our family memories for years. Having another celebration in our family was the reason for our recent dinner. Our 33 year insisted we go to The Colosseum because it has marked so many of our previous celebrations in our family! Once again, are were pleased to say, we all were satisfied we chose to return!
Thank you !
Good food and good service
Very disappointing. Went for Valentine's Day weekend. Very slow service. No waiter came to our table for 20 minutes. Ultimately the host took our order and waited on our table. If you're looking for Italian food, find another spot. Maybe this passes for Italian food in Salem, NH - but the sauce was orange with a hint of Chef Boyardee. I ordered the Chicken Parm, which should have been a safe dish. I have never seen a piece of chicken pounded so thin - practically transparent. On a positive note, the bread was good, but the peel open butter pats.... wow. Never again.
Great food, excellence menu offerings all at a reasonable price
The food was great and the place was quiet. We were there for a business meal and the prices are very reasonable with huge portions. Everyone in our group had a great meal, drinks, and cake. Would recommend and definitely will be back again.
We took our daughter to celebrate her birthday and also our anniversary. It was a little chaotic during the seating process but luckily we had reservations and waited only about 30 minutes. It was very busy so of course we could understand the short delay.
The food is amazing, all 3 of us loved our meals. The dessert selection was excellent.
Quiet setting for pleasant conversation. Enjoyed a favorite dish not available a many Italian restaurants. Service was excellent.
Exciting menu poorly executed. Service was an issue as was attention the diners in my party. Thusly it was overpriced for average food.
As expected. Our favorite server, Pal, has retired.
A bit pricey. Good food. Portions fair. Excellent service. Parking easy
We had a wonderful family dinner here. We hadn’t been in over a year, I’m glad we went back! I actually think they’ve improved overall.
We love the colosseum, go there often for lunch. It's inexpensive, great food, and close by. Very authentic southern Italian food. Can be slow at times but they cook to order.
We've been dining at the Colosseum for 25 years, since my daughter was 2 years old. The owner used to carry her around the restaurant to say hi to the other diners. We have always had great food there. I highly recommend it!
Southern Italian, well done. Appetizers, house specialty drinks, veal saltimbocca, veal piccatas all very good. The only puzzling aspect was their interpretation of tiramisu: a crunchy cookie buried under a soupy pudding... it tasted ok. it just wasn’t what we expected.
Great food and service
Our waiter was wonderful,on top of everything, food was great drinks were great
Had reservations for 6:30 but never got seated to 7:00 - let several other couples in before us because they knew them and were regular - not good business practice - waitress was worse - screw up order- had to ask for bread on table- poor customer service. Won’t go back
