The Colosseum Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Southern Italian, well done. Appetizers, house specialty drinks, veal saltimbocca, veal piccatas all very good. The only puzzling aspect was their interpretation of tiramisu: a crunchy cookie buried under a soupy pudding... it tasted ok. it just wasn’t what we expected.
Had reservations for 6:30 but never got seated to 7:00 - let several other couples in before us because they knew them and were regular - not good business practice - waitress was worse - screw up order- had to ask for bread on table- poor customer service. Won’t go back
Excellent food and service. Wide ranging menu of both northern and southern Italian dishes. Extensive wine list. Owner/chef patrols the dining room occasionally. Ambiance is a negative, the place looks the same as it did ten years ago. Come here for the food.
I have never had a bad meal here. My family and I have been dining at Colosseum for 30 years. One of their strengths? The owner and his wife are visible throughout the evening, making sure everyone is happy. The Tedescos are wonderful people. Kudos to them!
I was very disappointed in the food. Furthermore, our waiter was very sweaty when he was making the caesar salad at the table and he kept making grunting noises while mixing the dressing. It was weird and gross. The pasta was mushy and had little taste. I will not be back.
Our server seemed to have too many tables and unfortunately we suffered due to it. The food is cooked to order and worth the wait but the time to get salads, drinks, refills, clear plates, dessert and coffee is all on the server 2-1/2 hours for dinner for 3 when we weren't camping is ridiculous. I was cancelling the dessert order and asking for the check when the owner offered free dessert and a round of limoncello but I expected better from the Colosseum. Kind of disappointing.
I went with friends for a Sunday lunch. There was only 1 -2 other tables occupied. The waitress rushed us to order not giving me enough time to even look at the menu. I felt pressured to order my meal. Bread was brought to the table and it was brought as requested. Upon receiving our bill, they charged us for the oil. When questioned, we were told it was the policy. I asked to speak with the Manager and the hostess came to the table. I explained to her that I frequent Italian restaurants on a regular basis and have never been charged for oil. She stated that was their policy due to the fact the olive oil was expensive? This restaurant served basic Italian food at a premium price (the menu on Open Table showed the low priced entrees) then to charge us for oil - ridiculous - you can find any number of Italian restaurants in the area that serve equally basic grade food and DO NOT charge for the dipping oil!
my family joined for dinner and was looking forward to an authentic Italian dinner and ambiance. Unfortunately the quality of the food was sub-par, especially for the price. The chicken and veal was overlooked and dry, and the sauce tasted as if it was from a can (chefboyardee like). I'm hoping this was just an off day because this restaurant has been a part of the community for years.
Hands down some of the best Italian food I have ever had. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the wine and our dining companions enjoyed his recommendations. He explained in detail the menu and our questions. The food was served in a prompt manner and it was hot. Our appetizers were delighted and could have made a meal from all the choices offered. Over it was a great night out and I enjoyed my meal twice as the portions are generous.
The Colosseum was a bit of a disappointment. I have seen the owner Annibale many time on channel 9 news cooking segments. He looks like a man who loves his craft (food). I was meeting a business colleague and Colosseum was halfway between Manchester and Boston so location was good. I was always curious about Colosseum, and the decor was nice. The service was fair but nothing special. Waiting line were very few on a Friday night. I had spaghetti and meatballs which were pretty good but nothing special, and I had an italian style salad which was pretty good, but nothing special. My business associate had a steak, and it was nothing special, he even needed steaksauce? Everything is a la carte and the meal was pricey for what you got and the service. I couldnt tell if they were short handed, but it might have been that? Dessert was good but was about 8-9 dollars for a piece of chocolate mousse cake.
I wouldnt call it a bad dining experience but neither would i callit anything above a fair dining experience. In my opinion, personally next time I could get as good a meal and service if not better at Olive Garden and pay about 20.00 a person less.
We're lucky to have the Colosseum Restaurant just a couple of miles from home. This long time Salem NH restaurant has been around for years. We often go just for a nice lunch, the food is excellent and the noon time prices are very reasonable. Service for lunch is a bit slow but not excessive. Drinks are quite good, wine excellent. Highly recommended.
Very good food, as always...we had a very disorganized and unpolished waitress...could have cared less that we were there 2 hrs and sides came out when we were almost done entrees, she was inappropriate with comments in handling delay of food...
Will go again, but, will be certain we do not get same waitress....
My husband and I played cupid and fixed up a couple for dinner. I can't think of a better restaurant for this occasion. The atmosphere was wonderful, we sat at a table by the window, the service (Chris) was terrific and of course the food was amazing.
It is a little bit of a drive for us (almost an hour) but well worth the drive.
See you again soon.
Water glasses and pitchers were not clean. Service was slow. Table side caesar salad demo was a waste of time, dressing was nothing special and the salad portion at the end was small. Food was OK but nothing great. This used to be a really good restaurant, but seems to have gone down hill.
