The Colonial Room at The Drake Oakbrook Hotel
I had a wonderful dinner with my family for my daughters college graduation. The staff was very good and took great care of us. The food was delicious. Thanks for s great experience.
we had a reservation for 12:15. It was very crowded it was Father's Day. They had it setup different to accommodate more people. There was a line for food. Delayed because of where they had the omelet station, causing a hughe back up. The food was good as always. The service was good also. It would have been better if they had it set up to have the line on both sides. Also, they could have some one take your order make the omelet order and bring it to your table.
We went for father's day and it was a mess. The lines for the food were way too long. They only had plates in one corner, so everyone was in the same line and people waiting for omelets held the whole thing up. We tried to explain to the hostess what the problem was and she did not get it. She told people "lunch is on the other side" but there were no plates for people to get food. There was a private party who basically all ate at once and caused a huge delay. We did not have one dedicated server and had to ask several times for a high chair and for the bill. We would send one person to get a lot of food for the table instead of all waiting and the "attentive staff" kept taking plates full of food that were in the center of the table to share before we could tell them to leave it. I get if it happens once, but 3 times! And then we get the bill, and this place is not cheap. I expect way more for that price.
Father's Day Brunch was fantastic! Food was delicious -worth the wait. Lupita provided excellent service (our coffee cups / water glasses were never empty). She and her other wait staff really worked hard . Very professional. Highly recommend.
Lunch was very nice. The atmosphere lent to good conversation. Nice selection of lunch entrees. They could include a few more entrees for meatless meals. Since it’s located in a hotel it was very easy to obtain a reservation on the weekend.
The chateau Brind for two as well as the ribeye and one of the seafood entrees were all...superb. Well served and delicious! I have grown up eating home fed prime angus beef and this could have been the best beef dinner I have ever had (I am in my 70’s!).
The bar area was hopping with live music...Classic music from bygone era. What a great place for excellent food very quiet and classy. I may wear a coat next time...it is a great place for a date or romantic setting. Food was superb and competes with Gibsons and The Chop House etc... There was a wedding at the same time in the banquet area so it was busy but still quiet in our area. What a great find for the western suburbs. These types of places are getting harder to find. Thank you to the people who took over and made it a classy place!
Great getaway for business lunch; quiet, not ever crowded. Food is awesome, but it takes a while for the food to be served.
Excellent service on a busy day like Mother's Day!! Servers were very attentive. Food was great as was the atmosphere. Can't wait to go back and try out a regular Sunday brunch.
Mother’s Day Brunch was our first visit to The Drake. It was absolutely the best brunch we have had in 10 years of going out for Mother’s Day. This outing is a real treat for me and my family. The food and service was beyond exceptional, the setting is beautiful. We really enjoyed everything and I thank you and your attentive staff, all welcoming too!
Service and food were very good. Wait staff made us feel very comfortable and had many good dining and drink suggestions. Very nice happy hour drink prices.
I had to go to the reception desk to find out where the restaurant was. There were signs all around for everything except the Colonial Room. We were the only guests except for a table doing tastings for some future event. The food was fine but not amazing. Several times we thought we were forgotten by the wait staff but when they did pay attention they were attentive. I was looking for something other than the normal fare at Oakbrook but this was really the normal fare at Oakbrook.
Absolutely loved the High Tea experience at the Drake Oakbrook!
The service, food and tea were outstanding. What a great hidden gem in the suburbs. I can’t wait to go back.
While a bit expensive, the food, service and atmosphere made it worth the price. We really enjoyed and plan on returning for Easter Brunch.
High tea was nice delicious food, cakes and loose teas to choose from.
When we arrived we were seated right away. I had said in the reservation we needed a highchair. It took a bit to get one. We sat down and no one came to our table to ask if we wanted beverages or anything. We watched all the other tables getting taken care of be we had to go ask. Once we got our initial beverages once again we were ignored. Watched other tables constantly being served and nothing. Also had to complain about them not removing dirty plates. Considering there were about 5-6 waitstaff and the place wasn’t very full it was disheartening. We had to go to the hostess and complain and all of a sudden we had people falling all over us. It was a let down because the family gathered for my mother’s birthday. When the hostess said something to the waitstaff they comment in Spanish that the boss was so mean. They assumed no one around them spoke anything but English. Considering the price and lack of service I don’t think we will do this again.
Went for high tea. David provided excellent service. Tea, sandwiches and scones were excellent. Dessert options were okay - needs better variety and quality of desserts. Sparkling wine is $6 but a mimosa is $13! Seems like they should both be in the $6-$8 range.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at the Drake! Our waiter was very attentive and suggested the Cream of Poblano soup as a first course. It was delicious! I had the filet and my wife ordered the sea scallops. Our main course was serve hot and beautifully plated. We will be sure to dine here again!
Lovely high tea!
My spouse and I were greeted at the entrance of this incredible Hotel. We felt welcome and cozy. David, our waiter, was a charismatic and enjoyable person. The table was decorated for our wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner.
The Rib-eye we ordered was of superb quality. Everything from the outer seasoning aroma to the tenderness of the steak was of exceptional taste. The French Onion soup was the best we’ve had. To top it all off, the Malbec was delicious.
We are travelers and have tasted delicious foods at some of the best restaurants in the world. We are very happy with the delicious food, ambiance, and service at the Drake Hotel in OakBrook. We will definitely be back there very soon.
Great food and great service! Totally enjoyed our evening.
What was supposed to be an anniversary dinner from my mother in law celebrating our 25th anniversary turned into a total failure. I made a reservation online, and I also called to check the dress code. Both failed to inform us that the dining room was closed that evening for a fundraiser and dinner was being served in the lounge. Little tables on top of each other to celebrate our 25th. Not exactly what we envisioned with my mother in law spending $150 on a gift certificate . We don’t exactly live in the area and the certificate expired in the next 2 months, so we didn’t really have a choice but to stay. The fundraiser spilled over into the lobby and it was so loud. My husband ‘s steak was over done but we just wanted to get out of there so he didn’t send it back. When we went to pay, our bill wasn’t over $150, so we figured we would get the difference in a certificate to come back and try brunch or the lounge one time, but were told they don’t give change on gift certificates. So, we had to order a dinner to go, and sit and wait for that order to be cooked. We had an appetizer we didn’t finish, so I asked for it to be wrapped to go. When we got home to put it away, they didn’t send the sauce home with it. It was a calamity of errors. What bothers me the most is this isn’t the dinner my m-i-l was thinking of when she spent $150.00 on a certificate for us. When I made the reservations, they asked if it is for a special occasion and I said it was our 25th. They did nothing to acknowledge this. They did say the 1st drink was on the house, but that was due to no one telling us about the dining room being closed. How did they allow reservations to be made if the room was closed? When all was said and done, we had to put money out in addition to the certificate to cover the difference because they don’t give credit back on the certificate. We were so disappointed in this experience considering the money the evening cost us. Our waiter was very nice and apologized.
Our birthday celebration was great despite a broken pipe (sprinkling system) in the lobby. The staff bent-over-backwards to accommodate us. Beautiful decorations and ambiance. The food was delicious and the service was great. Would highly recommend.
Very good food, quiet,
I hope that more people start going here
Great experience by attentive staff
The food was great and the service was even better. We will return.
We enjoyed the food, service, and ambience but suggest for Christmas brunch a large Christmas tree in the center of the room would add to the special feeling of the holiday. Even a good size table top tree in the room would have been nice. A small detail. We plan to come back again for cocktails and dinner or afternoon tea. This was our first time there.
We celebrated Christmas with my in-laws a couple days early (December 23). It was a very quiet night at the restaurant . Our waiters David & Francisco were FANTASTIC. The food was classic and perfect. I love a classic room & nothing can beat this. the fireplace, the mural wallpaper, the white tablecloths, Understated elegance.
One of my favorite sayings is if everything runs perfectly then no one notices. It's when the wheels fall off that reviews come raining in.
This was a perfect evening. Thank you David & Francisco, you deserve to be noticed for your perfection.
Breakfast with Santa was a wonderful experience! Food, service, ambiance was great! Kids loved the activities, and Santa.
Our reservation was for Colonial restaurant. When we got there they had it closed for a private event. Very disappointing for us. So they set up a table in the high tea room for us to have a meal. I think their main chef was sent home when the Colonial was closed because my husband's steak was sent back 2 times. It was not prepared properly. If we ever try the Drake again it will be for their brunch on Sunday to see what that is like. The waiter was great and the manager was very accommodating. But someone should have notified us that the Colonial would be closed. That was where we wanted to eat.
Good food fun pretty nice place for lunch ... took photo, fun with friends food was excellent
I took my mom here for our traditional Christmas lunch. This was the first visit for me. The hotel is nicely appointed as what the dining room. There were only a few tables occupied so I was a little worried with the lack of customers at the lunch hour. Our server was great. He was attentive and provided good service. He even snapped a couple photos of my mom and I when asked. For lunch, I ordered the seafood cobb, which was very good. It had shrimp, crab, scallops, avocado, bacon, egg on top of fresh and crisp greens. My mom ordered the bookbinder soup which was chunky and full of flavor...I snagged a taste. She also had the crab cake small plate and enjoyed them as well. I ordered a cappuccino to end the meal. I was disappointed that the cappuccino was from machine and not freshly brewed. What hotel does not have a real cappuccino machine?
The room was plan and the service was poor. The food was dry and all cold. It was very poor quality meats and shell fish and there was no condiments.
The dining room has no windows and looked like it was set up for a buffet with a table set up with buffet serving stations. The host sat us and promised us a waiter, who never arrived. Fifteen minutes later the host came for our drink order and we asked for a wine list that was not given to us at seating. After a total of 30 minutes without recieving the wine we ordered and never seeing our waiter we left. Opentable should take this place off their list of restaurant offerings
Great atmosphere in the hotel and restaurant, white tablecloths etc. Food was very good and fairly priced, the service was excellent! We had a holiday family lunch and everyone loved the location and restaurant. Would definitely would go back.
Service was poor, they couldn't get drinks right. Food was warm not hot, service was very spotty. Short on staff, short on necessities and mediocre food. No reason to go back. This was our 2nd time, we thought maybe the 1st time was an anomaly. We were celebrating my sisters B'Day and I recommended the place and was very disappointed. The music in the lounge after was very good.
No Wow factor here. It was just okay. It's Christmas and they didn't have any special decorated sandwiches, cakes, or cookies. Even the dishes the food was served on were plain white. There was nothing special about the whole experience.
Very efficient in the reservation area when I called the restaurant. I did use Open Table for the first time and it went well. Our table was set up perfectly when we arrived. I think most people were satisfied with their entrees, but I found mine to be disappointing. I had the "prime rib" sandwich which was more like shaved beef that was extremely dried out. I have had prime rib sandwiches in the past where it is thinly sliced prime rib. This meat was sooooo dry. Even the au jus didn't help. So, I should have ordered something else I guess as I would never recommend this sandwich to anyone. It should have been actual prime rib sliced a little thicker. The room is incredibly beautiful and the Christmas decorations were lovely. All in all, we had a marvelous time. The only other glitch was that the waiter never asked for a drink order and just came over to ask for our food order first. I wasn't drinking, but others were interested in a cocktail. I can't wait to return but will skip that sandwich. The murals were outstanding.
Very surprised that this was so good. Thanksgiving brunch excellent food, varied selections and reasonably priced given the quality. Service was impeccable, the wait staff was friendly and attentive. Will make this a staple!
