The Colonial Room is an inviting, warm and intimate white table cloth restaurant located just inside the Drake Oakbrook Hotel. Offering an extensive Chef driven menu including both classics,(Chateaubriand for Two) from the 1960's, popular contemporary dishes, (Citrus Crusted Chilean Sea Bass), casual fare, (flatbreads and burgers), and vegetarian/vegan offerings, (Portabella Burger). An extensive wine list, classic cocktails and local craft beer round out the selections to create memorable dining experiences. Guests are surrounded with what may seem like one large mural, it is in fact wallpaper from Zuber & Cie titled Scenes of North America. This is the same wallpaper seen in the Diplomatic Reception Room in the White House. It was installed during the Kennedy administration by Jackie Kennedy at the same time it was installed in The Drake. Originally opened in 1962, stunningly restored in 2015 after being closed for 6 years.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at the Drake! Our waiter was very attentive and suggested the Cream of Poblano soup as a first course. It was delicious! I had the filet and my wife ordered the sea scallops. Our main course was serve hot and beautifully plated. We will be sure to dine here again!

My spouse and I were greeted at the entrance of this incredible Hotel. We felt welcome and cozy. David, our waiter, was a charismatic and enjoyable person. The table was decorated for our wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner.

The Rib-eye we ordered was of superb quality. Everything from the outer seasoning aroma to the tenderness of the steak was of exceptional taste. The French Onion soup was the best we’ve had. To top it all off, the Malbec was delicious.

We are travelers and have tasted delicious foods at some of the best restaurants in the world. We are very happy with the delicious food, ambiance, and service at the Drake Hotel in OakBrook. We will definitely be back there very soon.

-Enjoy friends!

What was supposed to be an anniversary dinner from my mother in law celebrating our 25th anniversary turned into a total failure. I made a reservation online, and I also called to check the dress code. Both failed to inform us that the dining room was closed that evening for a fundraiser and dinner was being served in the lounge. Little tables on top of each other to celebrate our 25th. Not exactly what we envisioned with my mother in law spending $150 on a gift certificate . We don’t exactly live in the area and the certificate expired in the next 2 months, so we didn’t really have a choice but to stay. The fundraiser spilled over into the lobby and it was so loud. My husband ‘s steak was over done but we just wanted to get out of there so he didn’t send it back. When we went to pay, our bill wasn’t over $150, so we figured we would get the difference in a certificate to come back and try brunch or the lounge one time, but were told they don’t give change on gift certificates. So, we had to order a dinner to go, and sit and wait for that order to be cooked. We had an appetizer we didn’t finish, so I asked for it to be wrapped to go. When we got home to put it away, they didn’t send the sauce home with it. It was a calamity of errors. What bothers me the most is this isn’t the dinner my m-i-l was thinking of when she spent $150.00 on a certificate for us. When I made the reservations, they asked if it is for a special occasion and I said it was our 25th. They did nothing to acknowledge this. They did say the 1st drink was on the house, but that was due to no one telling us about the dining room being closed. How did they allow reservations to be made if the room was closed? When all was said and done, we had to put money out in addition to the certificate to cover the difference because they don’t give credit back on the certificate. We were so disappointed in this experience considering the money the evening cost us. Our waiter was very nice and apologized.

Our birthday celebration was great despite a broken pipe (sprinkling system) in the lobby. The staff bent-over-backwards to accommodate us. Beautiful decorations and ambiance. The food was delicious and the service was great. Would highly recommend.

We enjoyed the food, service, and ambience but suggest for Christmas brunch a large Christmas tree in the center of the room would add to the special feeling of the holiday. Even a good size table top tree in the room would have been nice. A small detail. We plan to come back again for cocktails and dinner or afternoon tea. This was our first time there.
