Great brunch spot!
Always enjoy The Coffee Shop, a varied menu with options for anyone, great service and location. I’ve been coming for years - dine with colleagues, family, friends. Favorite Union Square venue. Fun mix of tourists and true locals.
Although the restaurant was fairly empty our food came out too quickly between courses
Also there was a problem at first with reservation but was seated anyway ...and then reservation was found
I remember food being better but overall it was a good experience.
Clearly the chef and management has changed. The food was bland. No seafood dumplings as in the past.. The servers were just standing around. Our server can rubbed olive oil on her hands in front of us. Very weird. This used to be one of our favorite spots. No longer. They lost a loyal customer.
More of a "Scene" on Union Square than a restaurant although the food is tasty with a Latin flair.
Great diner with a Brazilian flare. I had the avocado toast and salad. Both were very delicious. I was a little surprised that the toast was only one slice of bread but the avocado was plentiful.
Would definitely come here again!
It took us forever to get the check, waitress not nice
For years ive loved Coffee shop
For the atmosphere and better than expected food
But last night was very sad, yes monday night but even the banquette seating worn with big holes
Maybe a cheese lasagna was a bad order, but truly a big plate of "Glop"
We had a poor waitress this time. But this is not usual.
don't go to the Coffee Shop if you intend to talk to others with you. The noise level is horrible. Other than that, food decent and good location.
Excellent taste of food. The pepper sauce is excellent - the Feijoada rules! the drinks never disappoint and the service is good. Love the place.
One of my favorite restaurants in NYC. Simple, down to earth and very good quality food. Always a fun place.
The flavor was good but the food was not well-executed. My plantains and my egg sandwich were cold in the middle. The décor is in major need of a refresh. The furniture is very worn and coming apart in places. The pleather covering has totally worn off of the banquette in the corner. Yes, it's a dive coffee shop/diner in New York, but maintenance is clearly an issue.
Service was rude and dismissive, and only after we had been seated for about 20 minutes were we informed that the health department had just arrived and that we would have to wait another 30 minutes minimum for our food to even begin to be cooked. It's been 15 years since I last dined here, and now i remember why!
Fantastic breakfast! Thanks!
we sat outside and it was the perfect night for it. The grilled chicken in my salad was overcooked as it is sometimes. I have to remember to tell the waiter to make sure they don't overcook the cutlet. Otherwise it's always a good meal.
Very cool concept for a restaurant. Food was good and came out quickly, service was OK. Waited a long time for the check. Overall a good place for a more casual business meal. I've been here before for happy hour and it's a great spot for that.
The Coffee Shop has been a go-to spot for well over 10 years. Food is always good. If I need a Ropa Vieja, it' there. The banana cream pie comes and goes; I wish it owuld stay, but there's al;ways a dessert or two that is worth the calories. If there is a problem, it's fixed in no time. Service is always friendly and the people-watching is top-notch. We like to sit outside in good weather and with the addition of heaters, that time is extended a month or two. Good place to meet a friend, have dinner with family, and enjoy the Union square area. Insie, it's not quiet, so be forewarned. There will be no meaningful discussion of world events while dining inside.
This iconic spot for many years continue to deliver consistent food, but non-inventive. Good for friends get together for quick meal. Good food, but not great.
Average food with very slow service if busy and not so attentive by servers, helper. Had to ask for coffee refill numerous times before I finally got one.
Good location for friends to meet and quick get together.
Food was fantastic! Good outside seating. I would recommend to friends who are looking to dine in the city at a more than reasonable cost.
Well, it was strange. I ordered a toasted bagel and cream cheese with tomato. Normally, it's a toasty warm bagel with cream cheese and tomato on the side. This was a sandwich with lettuce and a salad, which I hadn't ordered. The bagel was soggy and the tomato was mushy. It wasn't what I wanted or expected.
Talk about getting ripped off. They don't tell you that every refill of their watered down ice tea is $4.00 per glass. I had four glasses between 2 people and blew $26.00. Totally horrible feeling. Food is below average.
The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was okay, nothing special. The way the food looks on the plate needs improvement.
Coffee Shop is conveniently located and while the meal was good, it was extremely overpriced and small portions. I wouldn't return.
Great booth, great food and great service!
Because of the service at this establishment, specifically the behavior of the hostessing staff, I will never return to Coffee Shop nor recommend it to any neighborhood friends.
I have worked in the restaurant business before, and understand it can be difficult to handle a demanding crowd. Therefore, when I have heard complaints about the service at Coffee Shop from friends before, I have not taken it too seriously.
However, tonight, (6/25), my friend and I - armed with a reservation - entered a mostly empty restaurant and politely asked to sit outside. Instead, we were greeted by a rude, cold hostess, who chose to be vindictive and rude and not seat us at a fully set, clean table, in order to simply to "prove her point" that reservations don't apply to the outside tables. Instead, we watched her chit chat with the other waiters and staff at the restaurant and roll her eyes at us as we stood, waiting, next to the set, empty, clean table that she eventually "gave us permission" to sit at.
This is the behavior of a 6 year old, not the behavior of a professional. My advice to the owners and manager: hire grownups, or continue to alienate your neighborhood crowd. You have already lost two potential regulars already.
Friendly welcoming staff - pleasant ambiance - good food - good value.
Phenomenal service. Oysters were amazing. Fish is prepared perfectly and extremely fresh. Highly recommend.
Was good but Needs to update and keep up w new places. Service could be better.
Skip this place; very old decor and food was mediocre
Good time, little pricey
What can I say about this place, it's one of my favorites in Union Square. Really good options for whatever your in the mood for, great service, comfortable seating , lively patrons but it just makes being there that much more fun. They also make delicious cocktails.
Subpar food and drinks, host should realize that she is suppose to talk to people and host. She is not a bouncer in a club.
Great as always. Good food and outside on a nice day in NYC
The burgers were perfectly cooked (Rare) and delicious. Excellent service.
Ben, the maitre d', was welcoming, kind, and congenial. The food is always plentiful and tasty. My one major complaint is the noise level; it's always very high at dinner time, except in the back room. We sat in a small booth and every time the man to my back shifted his weight, the back of my booth shook. These are minor complaints.
Delicious meal wh amazing service. You must check this place out NOW
Great Brunch Spot!
I like that they offer breakfast all day and the location is super convenient.
