The Coach House at Middleton Lodge
At the heart of The Coach House is an all-day Restaurant serving up breakfast, lunch, dinner and roasts on a Sunday.
In the evening, sip one of the seasonal cocktails or craft ales at the bar, with cool sounds and a laid back atmosphere. Followed by a visit to the relaxed restaurant, with original features dating back to the 18th-century Georgian carriage house.
For those looking for an intimate party, the Private Dining Room can host up to 26 guests, and is located just off from the main Restaurant.
After dinner, take a visit to the snug, cosy up by the fire in the restored chesterfield armchairs and order your favourite night-cap.
This is a place that we always think of first when going for a meal with friends or for a special occasion
The staff are excellent and super friendly The food is varied and well cooked and the ambience takes a lot to be beaten
really delicious traditional sunday lunch, efficient staff in great surrounds
Beautiful place with a lovely ambience. Our scones were just the right temperature and my husband said that his flat white was VERY good! The staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble.Would definitely go back.
We had a really great time, the restaurant, staff and food were lovely. As we hadn’t been before we didn’t know the portion sizes were quite modest, we would order sides to go with our mains next time. However, the food was delicious and I would definitely go back.
Food was exceptional, and as always the staff were fantastic
One of our favourite venues, always superb food and friendly, attentive staff. The ambience is just right, tables are well positioned to give you the space to relax and enjoy the setting. Ideal venue whether a warm summer evening where you can sit outside on the terrace or on a cold winters day.
The amount of meat was ridiculous! It would feed an army and was all rather tough. It be much better to give smaller tastier helpings rather than great slabs of meat. Sorry to be negative
5th visit here and really does get better, my husband and son had steaks and they were delicious. Harissa chicken was so tasty and filling we all loved every aspect of this gem of a place, cant wait to return.
This is a lovely venue. Food and service up to their usual high standard. Atmosphere was good as the restaurant was busy even though it was a Wednesday evening. Staff are pleasant and helpful.
A lovely place for lunch, excellent service, freshly prepared food and great decor. Will book again, thank you
Booked the Coach House for Sunday lunch, we stay in Richmond often but have not dined here previously. Both my partner & myself agreed this was probably the best Sunday lunch we have ever had. We eat out regularly, almost every Sunday & were absolutely blown away by the quality of the food, everything cooked to perfection, amazing value, fantastic service. We enjoyed it so much we've booked again for Sunday lunch in 2 weeks when we're staying in Richmond again, we even said we'd be happy to drive there & back on a Sunday (approx 2 hours each way) just to have Sunday lunch of this standard.
A place for all occasions. Ours was just a relaxed family gathering. Staff excellent. There was lots going on but we never felt neglected.
My wife’s birthday.
I booked to go to this restaurant having looked at the menus on-line. There was an exciting tasting menu. when we arrived however we were told that you can only book the tasting menu by telephoning. No-where was that stated on-line. We had been booked into their ordinary restaurant. There were no tables free for the tasting menu. As I had come from Essex to try the tasting menu, I was not pleased. We didn't bother to stay. I also won't be bothering to attempt another booking. Its rather a long way to come for no food. Not even a glass of water was offered.
One of our favourite locations in the north-east - known in the family as the Soho Farm of the north. Great location, lovely surroundings, terrific food - the best Sunday roast beef in my opinion - and all in a relaxed atmosphere.
Service and food excellent. We are never disappointed by the quality of the food and everything done with a smile!
Excellent food with huge variety on the menu, great service, beautiful venue!
A lovely restaurant with excellent service. The staff were knowledgeable and provided excellent recommendations when choosing our wine and cheeses. A good choice of main meals at reasonable prices. We really enjoyed the seafood linguine and halibut.
And mustn’t forget to mention the interesting choice of cocktails. In all ... a fantastic evening.
Wow...what a place, beautiful location, stunning building, attentive and friendly staff, excellent food... and not expensive for a high quality restaurant.. thank you so much.... will definitely recommend and return
As ever, a lovely evening at The Coachouse. Food and service is always impeccable
Very much enjoyed our Sunday lunch. The beef was particularly delicious, positively ‘melt in the mouth’.
The staff are always very friendly and efficient. Our third visit and we shall be back.
Service was good as we were travelling through (just off the A1.
Great flavours and presentation.
Mon the expensive side but good for the quality
Great place and wonderful food for out first wedding anniversary. Staff were friendly and attentive
Hi overall very good. I was a little disappionted that nothing was done to mark or at least acknowledge my wife birthday which was informed on booking. Otherwise a nicw meal and we will return
The fine weather enabled us to sit outside in the lovely courtyard area. The food and service were up to their usual high standard and the busy courtyard was lively without being noisy. The staff are friendly and helpful and it is good value for money.
Lovely venue in a beautiful setting with high quality food (I’m a vegetarian) and excellent, non-intrusive service. We will certainly return to this restaurant.
Lovely relaxing experience on a Saturday lunchtime.
£18 for a Greek salad with less than 100grams of chicken breast seems far too steep of a price. The olives were nothing special and neither was the feta. Something that could be easily replicated at home using Sainsbury’s own should not be sold at £18. Would be interesting to see the gp% of this dish that could more realistically be priced at £12/£13. I appreciate the leaf combination within the salad and do not deny the freshness of that part of the dish. However, it was greatly let down by its counterparts.
Coffee was excellent but again very over priced.
The restaurant and staff are great. Just the big issue of how they come to set these prices?
Excellent menu choices, ample portions and very tasty food with intersting sauces to accompany the food. Service very friendly and efficient. Superb wine list with a wide range of prices and variety of all types.
Our party was for a birthday celebration and I can honestly say it was a perfect evening.
We have always enjoyed our visits to the Coach House, it is a wonderful location with excellent food and service.
The staff are attentive and the tables placed to allow privacy whilst enjoying the ambiance.
We will be back soon, thank you
Beautiful surroundings, lovely food, excellent service. Will definitely return.
We've recommended Middleton Lodge to many friends, both as a place to eat and a place to stay. On this occasion we took someone for a treat, and she was delighted. Service was excellent as was the ambience and the food was really good. I had seared beef, risotto and sticky toffee pudding - and I would class these all as excellent (with a generous jug of extra sauce for the STP!). The vegetable risotto was terrific - rice just the right texture with lots of crunchy spring vegetables and plenty of parmesan. My companions had some of the fish dishes which were presented in a way that might surprise some diners. The tiger prawns needed to be dismantled and the bream came on the bone complete with head. If this worries you make sure to ask how fish is served before you order. Both of my friends enjoyed the fish however - my wife had the prawns and coped fine - I think she would have found the bream a little off-putting, but she had the delicious lamb cutlets so that wasn't a problem. My only query is about the policy of charging for bread to start the meal. The bread was really good (as it always has been at Middleton Lodge) but to charge £4.00 for four smallish slices of sourdough, however good, seems a bit like penny pinching by a fairly prestigious place to eat. If it's important for the cash-flow, surely it's better to spread the cost of the bread over the rest of the menu and not charge.
On arrival, it took a while to find our booking.
They only had cheap tonic for our gin.
Service was OK
Afternoon tea was OK
Not good value
Not going back
Wonderful setting, staff and food. Attention to detail was high, such as complimentary petite fours as a birthday treat. Would highly recommend and already planning to return.
Fantastic service, incredible food. I’d highly recommend
We really enjoyed our dinner here at The Coach House. The food was outstanding, especially the fillet steak, chilli and garlic prawns and the chocolate dessert. The atmosphere was just right. Excellent service and, although more expensive than we are used to, excellent value for money. We would definitely go again and recommend to friends.
Lovely venue. Staff friendly and efficient. Good food. Only one problem Please light car park efficiently before there is an accident. Had to use phone torches to find our way as did other diners! Otherwise a great evening
We really enjoyed our lunch, just wished we could look around the gardens but there was a wedding, will have to come another day
everything was spot on - and we had good advice for the wine
Beautiful setting, excellent food and friendly and professional staff. A definite place for lunch for a special occasion.
