Service was slow despite an empty dining room.
I brunch time gem.
Very Very Noisy. Music is blasting from the bar downstairs. Food was average and not very creative. During a long wait for food to arrive I noticed that food being served did not stop any ongoing conversations or leave an impression. Chicken looked a lot like Applebee's. To ensure that I left with a memorable experience the waitress screwed up my bill by giving herself a $75 tip for a $140 meal. Maybe the noise was so loud that she couldn't hear herself think in this restaurant owned by chain owner Steven Starr. Met friends at Juniors later that night. No one talks when cheesecake arrives.
I was a bit disappointed by the Clock tower for multiple reasons. First the table setting was not proper to a Michelin star restaurant as it was without sheets secondly we taught the value to money paid was poor as we paid a lot and the food was kind of common (hamburger, lobster,...) and third the place is really noisy.
Whilst the food was excellent, we felt 'rushed' as diners. The waiting staff were a mixture of extremely competent and professional and the opposite, couldn't be bothered and didn't care. For a michelin star restaurant our expectations were far higher than the experience was in reality.
The Clocktower was one of the best meals of our lives. We had lunch here as a special meal on our honeymoon, and we felt swept up in such a warm and welcome experience from the moment we reached our table. The sommelier brought us two incredible glasses of champagne on the house, the staff checked in on us and were so lovely throughout our entire meal, and they gave us complimentary bon bons at the end of a truly beautiful meal. The food was decadent, the staff was lovely, and we felt totally welcomed and cared for. Our favorite dish was the Berners Tavern Mac and Cheese, and my husband fell in love with the Lancaster Chicken. Every bite of our three course meal was perfect. We will definitely come back on our anniversaries. We're so happy we dined here.
I went there for business breakfast meeting. It is perfect for that purpose. The food was very good, service excellent and while not inexpensive, it was a value.
Loved it! Very fancy but also fun for a quick casual drink.
Had eggwhite omlete that was overcooked abs rubbery. Very dissapointing
The food was excellent but the noise level was so high that it was impossible to have a conversation. That is why we might never go back there.
Food was outstanding. The service was equally as good. Loved the old work decore of the restaurant and bar. Sounds crazy but the ceiling was so ornate I was looking up at it half the night.
This is an upscale place so expect to pay a bit. However, it is well worth the cost. It is a fabulous place. The food was truly outstanding. The risotto was the best I have ever had! And my cousin said the same thing about the skate fish. The service was great. They were very attentive. We mentioned that we were celebrating our daughter and they gave us complimentary champagne and chocolates! They made us feel very special. We really enjoyed our dinner there and I definitely recommend it.
Very interesting tasty and somewhat novel food. Delightful "clubby" atmosphere. Enough interaction with other patrons to enhance the experience without being intrusive. Very fair pricing. Excellent service. Fits in well with the trendy upscale hotel in which it is located.
Appealing British Club atmosphere with walls lined with interesting photos. Just enough conversation heard at surrounding tables to add ambiance. Novel food preparations, all attractively presented. Everything extremely tasty. Very attentive service. My wife and I went both for a dinner and a lunch and enjoyed both very much, considerably more than a much more "buxxy" restaurant that we went to for our second night's dinner. Prices were very reasonable considering the Michelin star.
The atmosphere, food and staff was fantastic. My only negative is that I wish the menu was more extensive or diverse.
Overall a fantastic place, incredible decor, delicious food, wonderful presentation and attentive staff.
It was my bf b-day and everything was just spectacular! Food quality was amazing, people were very attentive to us - they wrote a handwritten note Happy birthday for him!
Thank you so much for such an amazing celebration!
Went for an anniversary dinner and it was fantastic. Great service and wonderful atmosphere with delicious food.
Great recommendations by the staff. Loved our time there.
Great location!
Didn’t enjoy the atmosphere or the plating. The food was good, but the price for the service, atmosphere, and food quantity was too high.
AMAZING FOOD !!!!!! Expensive but worth every cent!! The people working there did a great job. Very friendly and outgoing. I can’t wait to go back.
Food didn’t justify the price
I would recommend again and again! Delicious. The Mac and cheese is to die for!!!!
Starters fantastic, after the that very poor. We chose the Dover sole to share, this was a lump of rubber covered in butter. Fish should be a delicate dish, this needed a steak knife! The whipped potato was un edible, again swimming in butter. My wife tapped the fish to show the waiter how tough it was, a nice guy but he knew no different. For $120 main this was terrible, at best a $10 piece of fish cooked & then over cooked
A wonderful dinner for our special occasion. We were treated like royalty.
I don't normally leave reviews, but our meal at The Clocktower was honestly one of the worst we've had at a restaurant ever. When we first sat down, a waiter came over, handed us our menus and asked us what kind of water we would like. He didn't introduce himself or welcome us to the restaurant, etc, and he came back in a bit and said, 'Have you decided on an appetizer?' Luckily the sommelier was very helpful, and several other waiters seemed to have a better grasp on service and how to interact with their patrons. In addition, and more importantly, the food was just not that good. I have to say that I'm surprised this restaurant has a Michelin star. As an appetizer, I ordered the Hudson Valley Foie Gras And Chicken Liver Parfait. I didn't realize until I received my main course that only the Chicken Liver Parfait was served to me during the appetizer portion of the meal because when they brought out my main course - Duck, (which was so tough, I struggled to cut a couple of bites before I gave up) they also brought out my Foie Gras that was missing from my appetizer on a separate plate, all by itself! What? My husband ordered the Pork Chop and it was so salty he couldn't eat it. We ended up going downstairs to The Edition Hotel bar and ordering a burger and fries which was absolutely delicious. That, BTW, deserved a Michelin star.
Outstanding service, wine and food!! All around a great experience. My wife and I had an amazing time. Thank you for making her birthday as special as I wanted it to be.
Seevice is not a One star michelin experience
Fantastic experience, the ambience was great and the food was delicious. They even prepared complimentary Prosecco and chocolates for our anniversary.
Terribly poor service. Server didn’t speak English properly. Brought breakfast without toast and eggs came 10mins apart. Asked for milk twice and didn’t arrive. Asked another server who brought it stating away. My tip reflected the poor experience. I stay at the hotel regularly too, but will be looking for an alternative breakfast spot moving forward.
This was our first time at the Clocktower and looking forward to going again soon. It was fabulous.
Great food, service and wine. We loved it.
Classy, decorated with good taste. Menu somewhat limited but sufficient.
Decor was exquisite, service attentive, but not intrusive. The ox “mac&cheese” outstanding and the cod and the summer squash delicious!
Not Berners Tavern but did enjoyed the decor, layout and ambiance. Lively but spacing and noise level were just right for conversation. Had the skate wing which was well prepared but bland. Expressed some dissatisfaction when asked, and server said I’ll just need to come back again and try something else next time. Replied that this is NYC, plenty of other choices. Eventually comped a glass of port, but should have just offered something up front. Colleague really enjoyed his steak, and the macaroni and cheese was very unique and excellent.
I wanted to dine in the Clocktower for the Dover Sole, which is on the dinner menu.
The highlights are these food items:
1. The butter at the beginning, which was very delicious with fresh, hot bread
2. The whipped mashed potato - the most delicious I’ve ever tasted
3. The Dover Sole but can be found in other places at a lower price. Here, it is claimed that the dish is for two people, when it’s not too big of a fish - it was just right!
As for the service, I gave it three stars because it wasn’t consistent. Everyone was nice including the manager (Marta or Martha). But at one point, we were surrounded by four servers; I almost couldn’t breathe well, and at other times, especially near the end, there was no one paying attention to my waving arm.
By the time we left, we were exhausted from the long wait to get the check!
Unlikely that I will repeat this experience unless I’m in the area and I’m craving the taste of the Dover Sole and the whipped potatoes!
Our third time dining there. I really enjoy the place. I will dine there again next time I am in NYC.
It was a friend’s birthday dinner and it was a great experience. The food was amazing and the staff and service were excellent. Highly recommended.
I've dined at The Clocktower about 12 times mainly for business dinners. I've found the service on most occasions has been good. However, yesterday was horrendous. For a $550 meal, I'd expect a much higher level of service. The waiter took a while to come over for drink orders, it took another 25 minutes for the wine to come out, and then another hour after appetizers for the main course to come out. The waiter didn't come by frequently and we found ourselves refilling our own wine and sparkling water.
This was the worst meal experience I've had in a long time there. Overall, our night was over-priced and mediocre.
Also for what it's worth, it was freezing by the windows where the AC comes out.
We had a lovely Sunday brunch. It was my husband's birthday, and they snuck in a very classy dessert to cap off our brunch. We had a great time!
