The resort is still locked into the ninety's. But a big re-no is starting in a couple of weeks. They ran out of martini glasses and served it in a sniffer?!? really!?

We had a fabulous dinner, beginning with salad and shrimp cocktail, ending with wonderful, tender steaks. The service was very good, wait staff was attentive, but gave us space. The location provided incredible ocean views. Most every table would have a nice view, although we had reserved a window table which was perfect for our anniversary. Would highly recommend The Cliff House dining room.

This is the second time we ate at the Cliff House and I was not impressed with the food either time. Our baked potatoes were hard and not fully cooked and my fish was just ok. The waitress was very good and the view was nice but the food needs to improve.

Not just a bad nite. They need a new chef, mgr and staff. The staff and mgr attitudes were awful, didn't care when we expressed poor quality food and service. The mushroom risotto looked liked a lump of glue with no taste. Halibut was $32 which would have been ok IF it wasn't overcooked and dry. Clam chowder was mostly potatoes. Service was very slow and servers were confused about everything...huge disappointment for a resort restaurant with such a great view!

Scampi was average and served with rice, would have preferred pasta. Salad was adequate. Nothing out of the ordinary.

We have previously dined at the restaurant and were very pleased with every aspect of our experience. Not so this time. We opted to share a salad and the calamari for a starter. The salad was obviously pre-made and press dressed. It was soggy. The calamari was crispy but was over priced for the portion size.
The rack of lamb was very tasteful but there was very little meat. I had a fish dish that was acceptable.

I have been going to the Cliff House through out my life, and have the greatest memories from those trips. The dining service staff were wonderful and attentive. The food is still a bit out-dated and in need of some upgrades. The view, the wine, the staff and my family made this a wonderful night, but the meal was forgettable. BIG renovations planned for 2016 which I imagine will correct some of the out dates elements, but I pray they don't lose the charm, the ambiance, the warm "welcome back" feel I get when I return. I hope the renovation team remembers that the history of the place and the feel of the history there is essential - I return every year, and will continue to do so as long as the Cliff House ambiance remains a centerpiece. Please do upgrade accommodations, spa access, parking and expand dining to include a well staffed lunch. Your view is the key - perhaps more than 4 outdoor dining tables will bring diners back.

I stayed at the resort for three nights for a girls spa weekend. We had a wonderful time at the amazing spa and hotel....however, the food at the restaurant is consistently the worst food you will ever have. Frozen fish, over cooked meats and old baked potatoes sort of heated up. Some of the worst food and service over ever had. The entire restaurant needs an overhaul, food and the way they're running their dining room. Only edible thing all weekend was the fabulous omelet station! He as a skilled line cook and made them perfect every time
Nothing else all weekend was above terrible or poor

We ate dinner outside one night and inside another night. Both meals were very good. The views are outstanding. The staff was very personable and attentive. Small plates instead of entrée were very tasty! Wife had full entrees, and she really enjoyed those also.

Took my wife to the resort for her birthday. The facility is nice, but the food was a little less than what we hoped for. My wife had a decent dinner, but my lobster mac and cheese ($34) was just a huge bowl of mac. I kept stirring from the bottom hoping to find some cheese or better yet, some lobster but it never happened. I didnt make a big deal of it because we were having a good time and my wife was happy with her meal.

I also had some other issues while we were there, but that will be a separate email to management.

From the food, to the wait staff, to the host, the restaurant overall feels like it was a small town cafe that is trying to be a big city fancy restaurant. The food descriptions and prices make the restaurant appear to be a foodies dream and a unique dining experience. In reality the food is so-so, without being bad, it is also not noteworthy. The crab cakes and famous blueberry pie did not taste any different than you could get at any other restaurant and the boiled crab was simply boiled crab. Nothing special that you couldn't do at home.

The server, while nice, did not seem comfortable server and had to correct herself many times on where to properly stand to serve, how to serve drinks smoothly to avoid spills, removing plates cleanly and efficiently and describing the food without looking at cheat notes.

The hostess had to correct herself while seating us saying "you're waitress... um... server will be with you shortly". We also had to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time, even though half the tables were empty.

While some of these things are minor, it does impact the experience and the expectations for meals that average about $40 -50 per person. As a former waiter, they are also not that hard to ingrain in someone's presentation and conduct.

With the exquisite view and a rainy night, we decided to give this restaurant a chance. Although there were the overpriced menu items that often (sadly) characterize hotel restaurants, there were enough good choices around the menu that we found much to please. All that we sampled was good - fresh seafood prepared with complementing cooking styles and sides. I recommend it if you are staying at the hotel.

The view is great, and makes dining here worthwhile. The food was fine, meaning that it was enjoyable and presented well. The vegetables did not seem quite as fresh as one would expect, and the baked fish was cooked in a buttery broth that made it difficult to know how fresh the fish was.

Still worth going for the view. 3 stars only because we are tough graders with respect to the food. Most would probably give it 4 stars for the same experience. We'll probably be back.

With the exception of the incredibly breathtaking views, the restaurant at the Cliff House resort was exactly as I expected, and really nothing more. We dined there 2 nights of our 3-night stay. The lobster was outstanding and perfectly cooked, but the rib eye was thin and overcooked. Service was friendly but not exceptional, and the ambiance was sufficient for my partner and I to enjoy a quiet dinner. If you make reservations, do what you can to request a window table - the views were amazing.

Been here for dinner a number of times the past 2 years. The view is magnificent and the noise level always quiet. In 2014 the food was OK and wine list fair, considering the location and atmosphere I expected more from food quality.
In 2015 they made some kitchen changes and now the food quality is very good, matches the view. Wine list could still be improved but this is now an overall wonderful restaurant for quiet, high quality dinner.

I brought my wife here for our anniversary dinner. We found our overall experience to be very good. The food was very good and the views very spectacular. If I have any complaint at all it would be with the lobster bisque. It was very good but did not come as advertised with pieces of lobster in it; other than that we enjoyed our experience.

The food was awful. The service was slow. I ordered filet medium rare it came out very well done. They were going to do another but I did not have an hour to wait. My wife had the baked haddock and that was just floating in white wine. A choice of boiled potato or baked? You could tell the baked I received was microwaved. I don't know who the chief was but he needs to stop sending out bad food. We also tried breakfast buffet. The chief needs to learn more is not better if everything is poor. At least you could get an omelette cooked in front of yourself. I kept hearing from staff they were closing in the fall and redoing the place and will open in the summer. Maybe they already gave up on the place.

My husband and I went to The Cliff House Resort and Spa for our 30th wedding anniversary. I seriously don't understand the negative feedback that this resort and restaurant have gotten. Everything from check in to check out was AMAZING. The dinner and the service we had at the restaurant on Tuesday June 30 2015 was OUTSTANDING. Please don't let those couple of bad reviews make you go elsewhere and miss out on this awesome experience. . They were most likely written by their competition.

We found the Cliff House dining room to be superb for breakfast and dinner. We have eaten there many times but now are enthusiastic about the new dinner menu which offers more choices. We ordered the saute filet of sole for dinner and it was excellent. Breakfast options of omelet and pancakes were outstanding as well. The table service was polite and responsive. Overall, a really good experience.

We ordered lobster bisque and wwere very disappointed. It was very watery and couldn't find one piece of lobster in it. For my maine course I ordered baked haddock which was suppose to have a crumb crust but only had a scarce sprinkle of crumbs on top. There was no taste to it whatsoever. I couldn't finish it . It came with a baked potatoe, but the potatoe looked and tasted like it was microwaved. Then, because I was still hungry I ordered blueberry pie and was also a disappointment. As far as service, our waitress was very nice, but we asked for butter for our potatoes and we didn't get it for a while. I ordered coffee with my pie and never got it. She realized she never brought it until she brought the bill. She only had two tables to serve with two at each one.
It's too bad because the view is to kill for.

Had great expectations based on reviews. However, mediocre food, bland ceasar salad, had baked stuffed haddock - stuffing bland, uninteresting; service attempted to be attentive however failed on carry-through, e.g. mains served without cutlery, had to ask for cutlery, and server we talked to didn't understand the word 'cutlery'; inconsistent service used across restaurant - we had red wine, served in 6 oz glasses, others had large bowl stemware with larger portions; espresso served in a full-sized coffee cup; no special dessert served for birthday boy, however, had been promised on reservation which was acknowledged when we arrived; view over ocean was marred by dirty windows.

Firs the pluses: the window tables have breathtaking views, service was okay, clam chowder was excellent, as was the Caesar's salad. Regarding entrees, they were terrible: mine was some mixture of lobster, macaroni, a flavorless cheese and a funny sauce. As I was incredibly hungry I ate a third before I retired to my room for a much more satisfying Snickers. My wife had brie baked in a "boule." Prior to this meal we didn't know that you could a) make a boule out of Wonder Bread or b) transform brie into soup, if indeed there were any brie in it in the first place. Completely inedible. Save your wallet and your digestive tract dicomfort and find a littl clam shack on Rt. 1.

Food- average; wait staff poorly dressed, wore sneakers and ill-fitting clothing. No sign for entrance. Not welcoming, building structure is a cement block-no character. It's fine for what it is, but classifying it as fine dining is misleading and lead to disappointment. It's not the quality of the Cape Arundal Inn.

The Cliff House Dining Room has one of the most spectacular views anywhere. Unfortunately, the menu could use an update. The only item that sounded the least bit interesting on the menu was the skirt steak and it was wonderful. My husband's strip steak was also very good but none of the other items screamed-try me. When we saw that the menu was laminated we knew it did not get changed very often---hint, they don't use seasonal ingredients. Also in an area of the country where lobster is prevelant, there were only two choices-a lobster roll and lobster mac and cheese. The chef can create, like the skirt steak I had. Let him do more!

My husband and I went for the weekend to celebrate my 50th birthday. It was our first time going to the Cliff House. The views were spectacular. We ended up having a different room the first night because of booking issues. The first room was excellent. Plenty of room and a great view. We were a little disappointed in our second room. While it still had a great view, it was not as big and accommodating as the first room. Our dining experience was wonderful. The dining room has a spectacular view and the service was excellent. We had two dinners there and two breakfasts. The dinners was superb. Everything was very fresh. The atmosphere was very calm and quiet. Overall we had a very enjoyable experience at the Cliff House.

We were staying at the Cliff House and had friends meet us there for dinner. It was off season and mid week so the dining room was exceptionally quiet. The fact that it was off season may also have been responsible for the fact that the staff seemed to be somewhat inefficient. There were some mix ups with the food. We also had breakfast one day and experienced the same thing. The toast served was not what we ordered. I also heard another diner near by complaining that they had given her bacon when she ordered ham. The food was quite delicious though.

Celebrated our wedding anniversary at this out of the way restaurant and had great seats by the window in the corner. Wait-staff very attentive and thoughtful. The Lobster dinner was perfect and my wife enjoyed the baked stuffed Haddock. The lobster bisque was well seasoned and freshly made. My wife liked the balance of the bacon and clams in the chowder. A wonderful spot if you like to watch the ocean as you enjoy a delicious dinner. Situated right on the ocean, The Cliffhouse has an amazing view. Ask for a table by a window for the best view but then enjoy wonderful service, a very ice menu selection and soft background music for a completely enjoyable dinner.
