Outstanding service at a very steep price... It is suggested that patrons tip the wine steward separately, but our small party felt that with a tab of over $400, a single 20% tip was more than adequate and that the staff could divide the tip as they saw fit. The ambiance and view are second to none. Our chief complaints are that for the price, the tables should not be packed in so closely. Chairs could not be pulled back without inconveniencing patrons at the adjacent tables. There was also a kitchen exhaust vent from the adjacent restaurant that sent smoke wafting to our area and that greasy smell was nauseating. Would I go back? Perhaps, but I recommend a quieter, more Isolated table away from the outside railing. You will have more room, just as nice a view and the foul smells from the adjacent kitchen exhaust vent won't put a damper on your experience.
Food was okay, not great. Cold crab salad was a nice start but the main course was mediocre. I got the steak and it was over seasoned with pepper and then drenched in a dark sauce that was essentially light BBQ. I would use this same technique for cooking cheap steak I bought on sale. It was also cut in fourths and drained of moisture. Overall the food did not satisfy me, and we essentially paid for the view.
The restaurant setting is like none other. Beautiful views in a romantic setting. Food was well prepared and service was attentive. I highly recommend it and will look forward to visiting again.

For all the hype online about the fine dining and appropriate dress code this place was a 1980's throwback with old laura ashley curtains and throw pillows. The room decor is TIRED. I felt bad for the very professional wait staff who had to go along with the charade that this was an upscale environment. The food was good at best and not worth the price. Total tourist trap

My wife and I were in a festive mood after celebrating our son's wedding in RI and decided to treat a family member attendee to a meal along Newport's Thames Street rows of shops and restaurants. Eaters beware: during the summer weekends Newport's restaurants almost always require reservations as they fill up quickly. We were lucky to get seats for the Skybar at Clarke Cooke House on relatively short notice; however, upon arrival we were told that this particular section of the restaurant required collared shirts (and even jackets) for men. Luckily, the House also had other dining areas and there were tables available that were offered and taken. A view of the Newport bay from our seats in the "Candy Store" with a setting sun made for a nice start to the evening, followed by a friendly server who was busy but attentive. Our guest and I started with littleneck clams followed by a seafood linguine that was awesome! Even the side spinach had a taste that was savory. An excellent dining experience sure to be followed up on our next visit to Newport!
Overpriced and overcooked
Impeccable service. Pleasant atmosphere. Slightly better than average food quality. If you're a foodie, there are much better choices on the wharf and in the Newport area.

What a thoroughly disappointing dinner from start to finish. Every dish, without exception, was drastically underseasoned. The quality of the ingredients was pretty good, but everything was much more palatable once we added a bit of salt, We were told by the maitre'd that the chef likes to serve dishes with minimal seasoning and let the diner choose how to add flavor, yet diners have to ask for salt to be brought to the table. When the restaurant called to confirmed the reservation that afternoon, they were quite stern about the dress code, however, there were numerous diners in golf shirts, jeans and sneakers. The amuse bouche was dropped on the table without an explanation, and we had to flag down a server to tell us what it was. We ordered two rounds of appetizers so we could try a wider variety of dishes, and we were not yet finished with our second round when the entrees were brought to the table, and the appetizer dishes were cleared without our being able to finish them. Perhaps most disturbing was the disgustingly filthy white jackets worn by some of the servers, as well as the unprofessional bus staff, one of whom actually sat down at a table to set it. There is literally no reason in this day and age for service staff to be wearing tuxedos with white dinner jackets, especially at an open-air restaurant on a busy wharf, but if that's how you roll, at least wear clean uniforms. Needless to say, we won't be going back.

In spite of the heavy influx of seasonal guests, the restaurant maintains a level of service and quality that is on par with the best fine dining locations and is heads above the other similar establishments in Newport. The view and location adds to the energy and excitement of the place.

We were never informed that my sons needed a collared shirt and shoes. We were acknowledged by host and led upstairs where we were told we were not acceptably dressed. If that was the case why did the host let us through? We were humiliated at the Sky Bar. I would not recommend this restaurant . And
Have been 3 times prior to this visit. The service has always been stupendous however the service was terrible this visit. Not attentive at all. We were very disappointed especially since we were so looking forward to an excellent dining experience. The food was delicious as usual
This restaurant was what we were told it would be. Good location, pleasant service and exceptional food. We shared the chicken liver appetizer and loved it. Price was reasonable for the experience.

The Skybar restaurant (formerly the Porch) at Clark Cooke House inNewport, RI is an excellent spot for fine dining. Itfeatures somespectacular views.
Great location as it is in an older bed and breakfast and the location has some charm and gives you the feeling of dining in a historic inn. The food and service were fine but nothing outstanding.
Pretense without quality. Halibut was incredibly dry and covered with a creamy sauce to make up for it. The crab stuffed zucchini blossoms were also dry and the crab tasted slightly off but not enough to send it back. The scallops were mediocre at best, and the lobster ravioli appetizer was ok but lacked complexity for this price range. Overall, not what one would expect from an elegant seafood restaurant.
Ended up eating downstairs at the Candy Shop, and it was awesome!

The Clarke Cooke House came recommended to us and we were looking forward to a nice evening. We ate in the bistro, near the fireplace. Great sailing / sailor ambiance in this historic building on Bannister's Wharf. We'd eaten a late lunch so weren't super hungry but ordered two appetizers each and were looking forward to good food. The oysters were excellent but that was the only item that was delicious. And when I asked what the special house mignonette was, I got a rather flip and uninspired answer. Fluke crudo special was okay; Caesar salad was mediocre at best - bland, no flavor and obviously didn't use anchovies. Hugely disappointing and not worth eating. Left most of it on the plate but no one questioned why it wasn't eaten. It's hard to describe the service; it wasn't terrible, it was just ordinary. The waitress was polite but didn't have that je ne sais quoi that a server has to make you feel as if you are a special client even when they've never seen you before and you aren't ordering a $500 bottle of wine to go with your multiple courses. It wasn't a busy night and there were plenty of empty tables by the time we left so it wasn't as if they needed to rush us out. We won't bother returning...
Food was served barely warm. Side portions were ridiculously small. Price is expensive for what you receive.
In the summer in can be difficult to get a table. In the winter this place is fantastic, still busy but more enjoyable. They mix up the menu so you can keep going back.

Summer in Newport is never easy. We'll chalk it up to that.
