The Clam in the West Village is (you guessed it) a seafood restaurant that's a safe bet for most occassions.
Quite possibly the worst dining experience in my 25 years in NYC. So loud you cannot have a conversation. So cramped you cannot get out of your seat. It was a production to get out took two servers and two other tables getting up. Whole fish came inedible in that you couldn’t get to the meat. Over priced and uncomfortable.
The clam chowder is the best !!
We had a long, leisurely dinner to catch up after a number of years. We were not rushed at all and service was attentive and unobtrusive (a pet peeve). I had the yuzu fluke appetizer and the grilled whole fish (sea bream), both of which were beautifully presented and well flavored. My companions had the clam dip (perfectly crisped homemade potato chips) and a salad, and halibut and char. We had french fries for the table, which were delicious, I confess I couldn't stop eating them even after I couldn't fit another thing in. Drinks and wine were all great. I have to remember to go there more often, it's a terrific seafood restaurant with great service.
My husband and I are in NYC for the Tribeca film festival and thought this was a good place to kick off our stay. I had steamed clams and raw clams (love clams) and they were excellent. My husband had Grilled Bree. Which he loved. We would definitely go back.
An excellent dining experience on our last night in NYC, during a vacation. Efficient booking and confirmation, warm welcome, great ambience, pleasant, efficient and interested service by the whole team, an excellent wine list at reasonable prices. The food was outstanding in preparation, quality and presentation. It tasted superb, our highlights were dishes of scallops (starters), halibut and stuffed clams (entrees), together with a delightful sorbet - everything was well done. The NY state Reisling was much enjoyed.
Just a great experience! Thank you to the team at The Clam.
Amazing meal as usual! One of my favorite go-to spots in NYC.
Food is ordinary. 1 very medium raviolio (not joking 1) with a bit of lobster for $22 is a bit too much .
Amazing food and experience. Gingerbread and vanilla ice cream sandwich was out of this world
The staff were wonderfully patient as 2 of our party of 4 were 15 minutes late arriving which on a Friday night at 7 was tough on their table turning. But the staff were super gracious and did not make us feel uncomfortable. We’ve eaten here a few times over the last few years , the food is reliably good and just interesting enough to appeal to foodies and non fish eaters alike. It’s an intimate restaurant and quite charming. The staff are definitely a big plus, very knowledgeable about their food and seem to enjoy what they’re doing , very much creating a fun atmosphere to be in. I would highly recommend The Clam for its food, cocktails and fantastic staff.
Food was great. Everything was great.
Exquisite food, attentive and friendly service, calm oasis in the bustle of the West Village.
We love this restaurant. It never disappoints. Order any item on the menu. They’re all excellent!
It’s always delic and the staff perfection
great food and service- but gets noisy around 7:30
Vegetable sides were unexpectedly excellent. Lots of fun with clams and very good fish. No one tried the steak or chicken.
Delicious food and good decor. Always like the look of brick walls.
Always a wonderful dining experience. The host staff is welcoming, the wait staff pleasant and helpful and the food delicious. We normally share three courses, each prepared perfectly and served in a timely manner. Don't forget cocktails, especially a Greenhook martini, and wines by the glass (generous pour). No disappointments.
We had the most amazing experience. Food was outstanding as was the service. Can’t say enough good things. Will be returning for sure.
Great lobster / clam sliders and clam dip. Great for fun nibbles but also more grown up fish dishes. West Village classic.
I've now been there 3x for business lunch and food and service are quite consistent. I'm a fish person, my faves there are the clam chowder (how could you go to a place called Clam and not have the chowder) and this awesome single large lobster raviolo. Good bar and wine selection, great staff.
Excellent seafood in a pleasant cozy room
We’ve been about 5 times now and it never disappoints
I was a little disappointed. We ordered two whole fish entrees and was told the fish of the day was grill branzino but what was served was a completely different type of fish. The restaurant didn’t even attempt to tell us until we asked the question.
Snowy day treat— very quiet. Excellent food and service— when we split a few things, had fished came out split and plated, very classy. We ordered 3 courses, so pretty pricey, but definitely recommend.
Always get the lobster/clam rolls which is hard to beat and shows that once I have found a great choice don't stray much
service was great,,homemade potato chips were amazing,,,,,,,,i had the whole fish ,,,it was perfect,,,,we had the steamers also....yum
Place is a gem! Service was fantastic, food yummy and comfortable! What more could you want?
Great service! Food delicious but just a bit pricey.
Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious (spaghetti, escarole, rolls, steamers) and the service was warm and prompt, but not overbearing. The occasion was a birthday party, and the small scoop of ice cream with candle was perfect as a small treat (and thank you for not singing!)
Lovely atmosphere, delicious food. We just wish there was a little more of it! We will definitely be back.
This was the 4th time dining here.
Keeps getting better.
Great food,great choices of wine.
Can’t wait to go back
way too noisy. crowd from bar leaning on our table. a unpleasant experience but food was special
No matter what you order, the food is great. The oysters, Clam pizza and spaghetti with clams are the best!
Cozy village spot with well prepared, creative dishes and solid service. Don’t miss the fried clam and lobster salad sliders and the scallops or burrata appetizers. Definitely save room for the ginger snap vanilla ice cream sandwich, it’s worth every calorie!
Great food, incredible service - top notch!
A delightful, informal spot for those who love shellfish. The Littlenecks were perfect, and the spaghetti with clam sauce was a nice take on the classic. I have to add, however, that serving clam strips and calling them Fried Clams is a sin. If you can't find whole belly steamer clams for frying, I would rather they not be on the menu at all - or at least not at a place called The Clam.
Loved our meal...everything was absolutely delicious!!
The lobster and clam sliders have always been a fave although originally is was a big sandwich! The clam chowder is absolutely perfection. Love the leeks. But my gig surprise was the squash and apple salad with green goddess dressing. The presentation was stunning and the salad was incredibly creative and refreshing. Definitely ordering again!
If u luv clams, it’s a great spot for a seafood meal
Flavor of fish is always so unique and different and we love that also kitchen do perfect job with preparing it !!!! THATS WHY WE ARE LOYAL CUSTOMERS
Lovely evening with wonderful food and service. Enjoyed our evening very much.
