The City Grill - Windsor Ratings and Reviews
It's upsetting that we made a special trip to The City Grill based on our reservation (confirmed) for 5:45 on Friday July 21st, but when we arrived, the restaurant was closed for a private wedding reception. With an appetite and so much excitement (we were visiting family from California), we were very disappointed. It was our last night in Canada and a special occasion celebrating an 88th birthday.
We feel we should be compensated for the effort we made to be a patron at the restaurant only to be turned away once we got the front door ten minutes before our reservation.
we went for the duelling piano's... the food was not good, there was no taste/spice. what we got versus what we paid unfortunalty did not match. I had higher expectations and we were so disappointed in our food that we didnt even stay for the piano's. feel free to contact me for further information.
Great location, great customer service and great food! This is my 'go-to' restaurant when I am in Windsor (4 - 5 times per year).
I highly recommend to anyone looking for an upscale place to entertain or wind down.
The second floor is great for people watching.
We've been here for dates several times and we've had some really great experiences here.
We were there most recently for the dueling pianos night and had a brand new server, and while we tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, it was difficult.
Our food came out very shortly after our app which we had specifically asked her to wait on and she repeated back to us that we were to let her know when we'd like our entree orders placed. They brought our entree and we didn't have silverware, and if it wasn't ten minutes we waited, it was definitely 7-8. So then we ate slightly warm food. I asked for another glass of wine and my husband a beer... she brought my husband his beer refill and then asked me if I wanted more wine as though we hadn't just had the discussion.
Overall small things, but we just expect more from a place where we've had so many amazing servers and experiences.
We still love the atmosphere and food so I'm sure we'll be back and hopefully it'll be better.
We were treated like V I P's by the entire staff.
Service was both attentive and friendly.
Our waitress Areal was amazing.
We had the Chateaubriand for two accompanied by the wine pairing options.
The meal was great and the pairings were top notch.
I would not hesitate to recommend The City grill to anyone, especially for a special occasion.
Food was good but not worth $80 a plate (NYE set pricing) Reason I say this is, it took 30 between each meal corse. Our reservation was at 7. We were seated promptly, but did not get our main entree till almost 9pm. Our server said the kitchen staff was running behind...but the restaurant wasn't even full. Seems unacceptable given that all customers have a very specific menu to choose from.
The atmosphere was great until the large party next to us showed up. They were so loud and obnoxious it completely ruined our experience. Funny thing is, we found out the large party was filled with owners of the restaurant. Clearly they don't care about ruining other patron's dining experience.
Will not go back.
We both had the steak du jour. Our meals were tasty, nicely presented, and cooked to perfection. The sweet potatoes were a nice touch. The portions were just right. The server was professional and friendly. I would recommend the City Grill for any occasion.
Service was spot on for our large group, spot on appetizers. Gorgonzola and potato soup was to die for! Mains came out quickly and tasted out of this world. Truly the best place to have a genuine dining experience in Windsor. Service was impeccable. Great job City Grill.
Our dining experience was awful. First of all, we were literally the only people in the restaurant and it took 20 minutes to get bread and another 20 minutes to get our appetizers. The scallops entree was almost $20 and it came with two small scallops. The tuna tartare was the same - a tiny portion with a hefty price tag.
We all ordered the specials of the night. Two people had the steak which was requested medium rare. Both came out medium well at the rarest. I had the seafood risotto which was equivalent to eating over cooked Minute Rice with a small half lobster tail and four shrimp. A complete rip off for the $34 price tag it came with. When I complained about the dish I was thanked for my honest feedback. The waitress then came back and said "how's 10% off your meal?". Well, if you want my honest feedback, you should have comped the meal.
To top it off, the steak was served on a slate board which is more commonly used for a cheeseboard. As the waitress put the plate down, the steak juice spilt all over one person's pants. There was a half apology and an indication that the plates were heavy. Well maybe you should have only carried one then. When this guest shifted his slate board slightly on the table, the juices once again came spilling off the plate that had no rim. It certainly made for an unpleasant dining experience.
When all was said and done, the bill for four people was almost $300 and we still had to go to McDonald's to eat afterwards because we were all still hungry.
Great food but it was very loud and we felt rushed to eat by the waiter....he kept coming to our table asking us if we were done eating when it was obvious we were still eating...our conversation kept getting interrupted because he wanted to clean the table
