The Chop House - Grand Rapids Ratings and Reviews
Well, it started with the hostess who sat us at our table; she grabbed my Pear apple Martini and spilled it and didn't offer to get it toped off. We ordered the Lump crab cakes which was warm and filled with breading no lump crab was noticeable. The bread wasn't warm and the butter was hard. The entrée came out my husbands House chopped salad wasn't tasty he ate the steak and that's it! The onion soup had a after taste and wasn't enjoyable. I asked for a medium well state and they gave me rare it had to go back. Mean time the mashed potatoes were getting cold and the asparagus as well. Although, they took the salad and soup off it made the experience not so good. We spent about $137 on the remaining food that should have been superb! It was not an enjoyable birthday dinner.
We had a very nice birthday celebration for our son at The Chop House this week. Our server was delightful and helped guide me through the wine list to select a nice moderately priced wine (wines are quite pricey here).
We all had delicious, perfectly cooked steaks (again our server was helpful as I usually order medium rare and she suggested medium if I wanted a warm center) accompanied by salads, mushrooms & augratin potatoes.
The crowning touch was the the cheesecake dessert served with Happy Birthday written in chocolate.
There is a lot of restaurant competition in Grand Rapids these days. This restaurant has limited windows and may be a little dark & dated inside. Be forewarned, it is an expensive evening.
We dine at The Chop House several times a year as well as on our birthday (my wife and I share the same birthdate). The accommodations are always first class, the service is attentive and courteous, and the food is superb. The Chop House is the Go To place for a great evening out.
Its very simple. Its worth the price. We did not have a bad thing there and everyone was more than satisfied. The service from the staff is the kind of service you hope to get everywhere, however it is the only place in west Michigan that has had that level f service. My wife was highly appreciative in the fact that for the entree, everyone at the table is served at the same time. That one thing meant a lot to her and we will definitely be back.
The Chop House knows steaks...and fish...and wine...and service. Our quick dinner before the theater was most enjoyable; my usual petite filet...cooked to perfection, and my wife's "fresh catch" was a beautiful (and large) serving of sea bass..."delicious!" (her words). Our server, Kim, has come to know our palates and is known to sneak us extra cranberry bread on occasion. Kudos to the front and the back of the house!
Went there for my wife's birthday. The birthday special does make it worthwhile. We had good drinks and salad/soup. We both had filet which was very tender, but both were somewhat undercooked and lacked much seasoning/flavor. The sides were good but not remarkable. The dessert was very good. Service was very good, but for my money, I think there are a couple of steakhouses in West MI that are comparable if not somewhat better.
Chop House experienece was overall good. Obviously food was on point, and same with the way the business presents itself. Though, staffing is where I experienced issues. I get it. 4 22-24 year olds come into such a place probably to buy cheapest things and/or don't tip well etc.. But, Coat check offered to check in everyone's coats except for me. Had to just hand it to him. Hostess was very polite as she seated us as well as the random water lady. Our waitress though, was very nonchalant with her attitude during the beginning of the interaction. It was pretty clear that after our tab kept rising she realized this, and made an effort to change the tone. I loved the experience there, and I realize that it is a higher end resturant in the GR area but please help educate staff on treating people fairly and appropriately regardless of age and dress. Thank you for the wonderful birthday.
Special birthday dinner. The staff were very courteous and on the ball. The food was beyond!!! Everything was delicious and the presentation and delivery was so nice. The 50% birthday incentive was a nice introduction to Chop House. We certainly will return!
We had a fabulous birthday dinner, extended family celebration. The Chop House always stands out as the place to go for a special occasion or to feel pampered like it is a special occasion. The food is always outstanding! They easily and without question catered to two different food allergies. I had the foie gras and rack of lamb and both were outstanding!
As usual dinning at the Chop House was nothing short of an Epicurean delight!
I ordered the special which was an 8oz filet topped with goat cheese with a side of cream corn and also asparagus. Oh! I started out with an appetizer of lobster bites which where very delicious. Overall an outstanding meal which I followed with a good cigar and a festive adult beverage downstairs.
We went before seeing Wicked and had a wonderful experience. The food was fantastic as well as the service. I would recommend asking for TJ, very personable and attentive. We are coming back, matter of fact made reservations, the night we will be seeing The Nutcracker.
All was amazing except for the fact that I booked (2) weeks in advance with the idea we would have a nice table. Instead, worst table in the house. Back corner, with an old door behind me that I could hear the staff washing dishes and what not. Also the table was in the furthest corner of the facility. I did ask our waiter how this could be prevented in the future and was told to request a booth. All in all an amazing experience just disappointed in our seating.
