Only a once in a lifetime meal.....to expensive to eat there more than once
The food was fantastic and the service was the best I have ever had. Would strongly recommend to a friend.
Yes I would recommend the Chop House to a friend as it is the nicest formal restaurant left in Grand Rapids. However it is very expensive and they have reduced the size of their side dishes and their appetizers. We got the sea food platter for a part of four and normally it is just beautiful and overflowing with wonderful shell fish, however it now overflows with a lot of green salad to make it look great. Very small portions of crab, lobster claws instead of real lobster tail, four medium shrimp and four oysters for an outrageous price. Cutting corners on this signature appetizer if fool hardy! I will not be fooled again. Disappointed.
We had a wonderful evening food drinks and service were excellent. Grayson was a pleasure. We will be back
The food and the service were both excellent! Will definitely return again.
Exceptional food and service. Wonderful experience.
The food was fantastic, the service even better!
We were greeted with enthusiasm and promptly taken to our table. The server was very cheerful, efficient and prompt at accommodating our requests. The food was great and they had no problem with us splitting an item.
The lobster I got was just fair. The steak my wife got was outstanding and the service was great!
Sea bass entree was excellent again.
The service was amazing! Food was impeccable. Not cheap but worth the price. We had a wonderful time
Best birthday experience. I wish I could remember our servers name because he has been our server for the last couple years for my bday. He’s incredible and always make our experience perfect. Tall guy with shaved head and goatee
My wifes birthday and it was great. Kim our waiter was more than excellent. Great place and great staff.
I took my fiancée here for her birthday since they give 50% off food if you come in on the day, though we likely wouldn’t otherwise pay that much for a meal.
We got in a little before our reservation to enjoy a happy hour drink at the bar. Hard to beat $5 cocktails and wine of the day! The bartender was friendly and attentive - good start to the evening.
After a bit we sat for our dinner. Our server was friendly and informative, giving recommendations and educating us a bit on their food. She did a great job throughout.
We started with a wedge salad and lobster bisque then each ordered a steak and split the brussel sprouts and king crab gnocchi sides. Here’s where the lower review comes from: our steaks were very bland and fairly flavorless. Even at 50% off, I was quite disappointed to pay that much for so little flavor. The brussel sprouts were so-so, and the rest of it was good. We ended with their creme brûlée cheesecake, which I highly recommend to anyone who likes either.
All in all, a great experience but we probably won’t be back. It’s very difficult to justify paying over $100 (with a 50% discount) for a dinner out that we didn’t thoroughly enjoy. If you’re looking for great, flavorful and juicy steak, you may want to look elsewhere.
I’ve been here before and was impressed with the service and the staff there. The food was good but I still would only rate it in my top 10. Still haven’t found a steakhouse that would beat the steak in Baltimore (of all places)... would go again if we’re in Grand Rapids in the future.
The birthday deal is amazing! We made reservations in advance and they tried to seat us in the table right outside of the kitchen. I had to ask twice to be reseated. The food is good as always, although the service was not as great as it has been in the past.
GREAT birthday dinner!! Everyone was wonderful and the food was superb! Definitely recommend
We loved our dinner at The Chop House! Our waiter did an amazing job and went above and beyond what we expected for the night!
The food and service were excellent! We especially loved the Brazilian cheese popovers! Everything was perfect!!
Food was great and our waitress, Kristen was very attentive and when I left my cc she called my cell and met me outside with the card. Great customer service
We take advantage of their birthday special a few times a year and are never disappointed. The food is good, but we value customer service above all else, and they clearly do too. There was a mistake with my order and they went over and beyond to rectify it. The wait staff and manager were so kind. The lobster bites, steaks, Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes did not disappoint. We’ll definitely be back. Thank you!
excellent evening....food, service, top shelf even to the end with Desert
Great wait staff and everything was cooked perfectly tonight. Definitely recommend scallop app and lobster bisque...better than any other restaurant!
Amazing food and service
The food was delicious and the staff was excellent..
Food and service was excellent.
We love this place!
I had yet another lovely birthday dinner celebration at Chop House with my family. It's always a first choice for me!
Our food was delicious, and our server gave us great help in knowing what to order. We would recommend it highly!
Excellent service, delicious food. Made for a very special evening! Thank you for the special anniversary service!
We have been going to the Chop House for some time now,In all aspects my wife and I think it is outstanding, thank you
I wanted to take my two grand children for something special. It’s a very up scale experience. You do pay for it tho. The food was the best ever and the drinks were incredible. If I had to do it over I would probably do the same thing. $50 for a steak for an 8 year old is a little steep but he loved it. It would be nice if you could get a glimpse of the cost on the internet so it wouldn’t be such a shock once you see it. Food was really delicious.
Took my husband for his birthday. He had the filet mignon and I had the sea bass. Both were excellent! My husband said his filet was delicious, and he could have cut it with a butter knife instead of the steak Knife he was given. I had the sea bass and it was cooked to perfection! The restaurant has great ambience and it remains a very good choice to celebrate a special occasion. The wait staff was excellent as well. We will definitely go back!
I had a wonderful dining experience. The bartender saved my girlfriend from my foolish suggestion of a tomato flavored vodka (which I picked merely because it sounded fancy). Our server was knowledgeable and patient regarding the litany of dietary restrictions we presented. The food was outstanding. The only negative from the experience will be the bitter disdain with which I will view all the other steaks that I eat for the remainder of the year.
Absolutely the best meal my wife and I have had in years. The Cowboy Steak was perfectly prepared. The filet was awesome. The wait staff brought drinks and allowed us to just sit and chat for a few moments before taking our dinner order. I had forgotten what it was like to eat at a restaurant where table turn over isn't prime driver of the business. The side dishes are shareable. Seriously, we couldn't eat the full portion even when sharing. The desserts were out of this world. The entire staff was top notch and readily available but not in your face. You'll hate the price tag, but I've paid a little less money for a heck of a lot less dining experience. A wonderful couples special night out type of atmosphere. Quiet enough to have a conversation without raising your voice but not a cemetery atmosphere either.
Dress up a bit so you won't feel out of place. Men wore jeans with dress shirt/sport coat, gals wore skirts. You can wear shorts and baseball cap if you don't mind looking like a twerp. The wait staff is in bowties so you should feel a bit awkward and sophomoric if you dress like it's Appleby's.
Homeless folks around the parking lot will need to be addressed soon before the clientele find somewhere else to go. If I'm the manager of The Chop House, I'm leaning on the the Mayor of Grand Rapids to help keep the front of my fine dining establishment free from panhandlers.
Our server John was incredible. Food is always on point.
Everything was amazing out server was outstanding always coming to check in with us!
It was our second visit. The entire experience was great.
It was fine. Nothing special in my opinion. My wife and I both got steaks. The service was top notch but the food was just average.
Food and service are top notch. We go on our birthdays so the cost is easier to swallow, literally. However, you get what you pay for, the service is very knowledgable and the chef knows what he is doing. Great place for a hot date or fancy business meal. Thank you, awesome!
