The Chop House - Grand Rapids Ratings and Reviews
Chop House experienece was overall good. Obviously food was on point, and same with the way the business presents itself. Though, staffing is where I experienced issues. I get it. 4 22-24 year olds come into such a place probably to buy cheapest things and/or don't tip well etc.. But, Coat check offered to check in everyone's coats except for me. Had to just hand it to him. Hostess was very polite as she seated us as well as the random water lady. Our waitress though, was very nonchalant with her attitude during the beginning of the interaction. It was pretty clear that after our tab kept rising she realized this, and made an effort to change the tone. I loved the experience there, and I realize that it is a higher end resturant in the GR area but please help educate staff on treating people fairly and appropriately regardless of age and dress. Thank you for the wonderful birthday.
Special birthday dinner. The staff were very courteous and on the ball. The food was beyond!!! Everything was delicious and the presentation and delivery was so nice. The 50% birthday incentive was a nice introduction to Chop House. We certainly will return!
We had a fabulous birthday dinner, extended family celebration. The Chop House always stands out as the place to go for a special occasion or to feel pampered like it is a special occasion. The food is always outstanding! They easily and without question catered to two different food allergies. I had the foie gras and rack of lamb and both were outstanding!
As usual dinning at the Chop House was nothing short of an Epicurean delight!
I ordered the special which was an 8oz filet topped with goat cheese with a side of cream corn and also asparagus. Oh! I started out with an appetizer of lobster bites which where very delicious. Overall an outstanding meal which I followed with a good cigar and a festive adult beverage downstairs.
We went before seeing Wicked and had a wonderful experience. The food was fantastic as well as the service. I would recommend asking for TJ, very personable and attentive. We are coming back, matter of fact made reservations, the night we will be seeing The Nutcracker.
All was amazing except for the fact that I booked (2) weeks in advance with the idea we would have a nice table. Instead, worst table in the house. Back corner, with an old door behind me that I could hear the staff washing dishes and what not. Also the table was in the furthest corner of the facility. I did ask our waiter how this could be prevented in the future and was told to request a booth. All in all an amazing experience just disappointed in our seating.
We chose The chop house for our anniversary dinner. We have enjoyed eating here in the past. The steaks are usually exceptional. But this time not as good, my husband ordered the cowboy steak medium rare. It was cooked as ordered. However, this piece of meat had an unusual amount of fat and grissle. The side order of mushrooms was overpowered with garlic. We asked to have mushrooms without garlic and they were happy to provide a new order. The wine list offers a good selection, but prices seemed high.
The food was very good and delivered in a timely matter so delicately, it was set up so nice and happens to be the first fancy restaurant i ever been to and most definitely will be back again and the waiters was on time with everything. I enjoyed it all
My steak was the best tasting I have ever had! While all the food was very delicious, the price was a little excessive as each item ordered cost more, i.e. instead of having an all inclusive meal, the salad cost, the soup cost, the steak by itself cost, the side dishes each cost, drinks cost, and of course dessert cost more. It was interesting to try for one time, but I am not sure I will return.
The scene was great, the steak was great, however it seems they use instant mashed potatoes. The lobster I added was a joke, about 1 1/2in piece of lobster for like 14$ extra. Asparagus was not cooked. Mushrooms seemed like they were cooked in something that gave them an awful taste. 3 cheese mac was not good at all. My wife wasnt happy that they only served coctails wine and beer, shes not a drinker so spending $200 and having to drink water wasnt appealing to her. Very over priced and not very good. Even the take out box wasn't anything fancy. Mind you I spent $200 not including tip. Peanut butter chocolate mousse desert was fantastic. I would have given a lower rating had the service not been great. It was our 1 year wedding anniversary and while it was a nice night out, the food definitely disappointed.
It was a great evening. Took customers out for dinner. Both of them just raved about the delicious food that they had for dinner. In fact, the commented about how good their dinner was several times during the evening. One of the gentlemen said he was going to bring his wife back to the Chop House for their anniversary. The great evening was capped off with fine cigars and night cap which they both enjoyed and said it was a perfect way to end the evening.
Our meal was great and we were not rushed even though it was a Sunday evening during Art Prize. This was our second time eating here in the last couple of months and we would recommend it highly. The service was fantastic and they were very attentive to our needs.
We booked this venue for a get- together with old friends. We each traveled over 3 hours to meet and thought this choice of restaurant would guarantee a great experience. Chop House turns out to be obnoxiously overpriced and out of touch with what makes an enjoyable dining experience in this century.
Despite a significantly advanced reservation and a half-empty house, we were seated in a noisy front table at a 6-top. The four of us had to shout to hear one another. We each ordered a different item and all were mediocre. The nonsense about pulling the covers off the plates simultaneously ended about 4 decades ago, didn't it?
My fish was raw and, by the time the server came to inquire about our meal, the other three in our party had finished.
The manager did take the cost of my entree off of the bill and comped a glass of wine, but this was a huge overall disappointment. Would not go back. Ever.
