The Chop House - Charleston Ratings and Reviews
Great food, service, ambiance, and overall atmosphere. Best steak I've had in a while. Overpriced. I've had dinner atop the highest skyscraper in Boston on a Saturday night for about the same. This is Charleston, WV and the restaurant is located in a mall. We would have gone elsewhere if their pricing was published.
We dine here a few times a month consistently. Although the dining rooms are lovely, we prefer the cozyness of a booth in the lounge. Some of our favs are the Moroccan Shrimp, the Filet of course is always prepared to perfection, the Dover Sole is melt in your mouth delish, Au Gratin potatoes large enough to feed an army, the rack of lamb, and the wedge salad sufficient for two people! I can't leave out that they grill up a mean Happy Hour burger too! Service is personable and on point and the valet parking appeals to those of us avoiding the Mall experience. This restaurant is one of our favs!
Did not like the meeting room that we were sat it. The window looked out into mall and it was very distracting. Room was like just thrown together. One other couple in room. Did not seem like we were dining in fine restaurant, more like owners bread across the hall that we also saw out the window. I could understand if we didn’t take time to make reservations but we did, we should have had better seating. That was obviously set up for meeti g or something. Too bright for dinner and the atmosphere we thought we would be getting by going to dinner there
We went for Restaurant Week - the menu was set ahead of time and the filet was delicious. It felt a little "rushed" perhaps because we were on a special menu, not sure. Was not asked if I would like coffee with my dessert, which I always do.
On a regular menu, I normally feel it is over-priced.
Our association was in Charleston WV for a legislative event and we had the good fortune of having dinner at the Chop House. The evening was perfect, the hostess, bartender, manager and server... were all exceptional. The food was outstanding! What a culinary delight. I would highly recommend the Chop House for any special event as it is a fabulous restaurant!
Excellent food, horrible service. I believe our waitress was also the bartender, so she was constantly having to go to the bar to serve drinks whilst our level of service continued to decline. We even had a second server that tried to assist but to no avail. The food was good albeit overpriced in my opinion. I expected a much better experience for a $350 check.
The drinks were messed up, the salads and soup messed up and the dinners also messed up. One steak actually went on 4 different plates before it got to the right plate and that is after I had already cut into someone else's steak. It was so bad that it would have been comical if it had not been a special occasion. I was embarrassed that I made the reservation at this establishment.
We were visiting Charleston & wanted a fine dining experience. We used Trip Advisor to find this one and read the reviews. We had a wonderful meal, excellent steaks, the scalloped potates were awesome. Thank you, Shane for the recommendation and the excellent service. We even went to First Watch for breakfast based on your recommendation.
As usual, the food was impeccable. Never get tired of the Cowboy Ribeye. Our server was exactly the type we hope for when visiting. Renee was friendly, bubbly and make our visit extra special. We enjoy being waited on by someone who has the same type of outgoing personality as we do. We definitely would ask for her again in the future. I look forward to returning again for an excellent dining experience.
When traveling, we always like to go to local restaurants, so we chose The Chop House. We expected a nice steak dinner. The menu was varied, with nice wine suggestions to pair with the entrees. However, the prices were outrageous for mediocre food. We live in Chicago, which has some of the best steak houses in the country; this place had Chicago prices without the Chicago quality. Service was indifferent, and we did not feel welcomed. We were highly disappointed. The restaurant was also very noisy, with the small parties at several tables speaking at very loud volumes.
I got the amazing venison, because potato and vegetable were included for $40. Most of the other entrees did not include either, without spending another $20 plus more than $40 just for the steak, alone. Unlike Outback, in the same Mall, which always has great comparable quality steak entrees for less with 2 sides included.
It was my daughter;s 60th birthday and I wanted the evening to be special. We all ordered the weekend special that was $39.95. This included a special wine. We never received the wine. Finally at the end of the meal we mentioned that we had not received it and so they then offered it. and as we had paid for drinks during dinner, we no longer wanted it. They did go ahead and bring one glass. The restaurant was not crowded at all, so I was very disapointed in the evening. i would not go back.
