In reservation, said it was our anniversary...even brought flowers, prior, and asked host put them on table beforehand. Got there - nothing. They didn’t read the reservation...nothing special...even got, placed at a bar booth, rather than a nice table. Something went wrong.
Outstanding service, meal presentation was quite impressive, server extremely knowledgeable on all menu items as well as specials
Great food and wonderful service. Love this place for a nice dinner every time.
This meal was a special get together. The ambiance was great, and the food was superb! The Chop House is an upscale restaurant, so it's not a place that I could afford on a regular basis, but it's a place that is worth treating yourself every once in a while - :)
Great food, great wine list. Would highly recommend it. Thanks.
Very nice early dinner. Split entrees and salads with separate plates for the kitchen. Great bar tender. Most reliably good restaurant in Charleston.
Stopped at The Chop House based on reviews in TripAdvisor while we were on a nationwide road trip.
Food (filet mignon special) was very good. Wine was also very good. Service was excellent- our waitress was very attentive without being too omnipresent.
Our only complaint is that the prices seemed high for the location
All in all the experience was very good. Would recommend.
Phenomenal service, food is even better..was seated quickly and entertained by the staff. Best of everything.
Waiter disappeared after entree, and was unable to get dessert.
Service was above and beyond, the quality of the food was exceptional and melted in your mouth. The mix of ingredients enhanced all flavors.
Not worth the $. Steak was overcooked and not as tasty as I had hoped. Sides were ok. Bread was dry and without flavor.
This is definitely one of the nicer restaurants in the Charleston area. I would break the review out like this:
Service: Outstanding. Our server was attentive and omnipresent without being intrusive in the slightest, and knowledgeable and helpful about the menu.
Food Quality: I had the NY Strip (impeccably cooked) and a baked potato and my wife had the filet with mushrooms. We both had cheesecake for dessert. All of the food was very high quality and certainly makes this place somewhere that we'd want to return.
Price/Value: This is the biggest drawback of this location, and it's a BIG one. Dinner for two, with tip, was in the neighborhood of $180. That's with no appetizer and soft drinks / water for beverages.
Overall: This is definitely a special occasion kind of place, and the food quality and service are as good as you'll find anywhere in the area. That said, their prices are, frankly, a bit on the pricey side for the area (about in line with a Ruth's Chris). They do have a prix fixe menu that may be a better value, so may have to try that the next time we go.
I would definitely recommend this for those that want a special meal in the area. Just be prepared for the sticker shock at the end of the meal.
Superbly cooked 8 oz. filet mignon to requested specifications, between rare and medium rare. Great steamed broccoli.
My boyfriend and I went here for the first time for a date night. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. The staff was very genuine and helpful. We were seated quickly. We had a couple of issues with our waitor, he had forgotten a beer and a side that we had ordered, got the side and never got the beer. It is a long wait time once your food is ordered. I think, besides the steak, some of the food is pricey for what it is. If someone wanted a fancy date night and wanted to easily pay over a $200 bill, that’s the place for you.
One of the best meals we've enjoyed in the past several years! Our server, Terri, was delightful too!
The Chop House chain typically has wonderful food, so my experience may have been a one-off. I ordered a steak with fries (typical American choice). The steak was very tough, even though it was cooked perfectly. The fries (Frittes?) were pretty dry and tasteless and there was no malt vinegar available to spice them up. Not bad by most steak house standards, but this was the Chop House. I expected more, and better.
The service was impeccable. I had a very friendly server, Tiffany who was very attentive and took care of me.
So this is a mixed review. Food was , meh, service was great!
The bar downstairs, where we waited with a drink while our table was made ready, had a real buzz to it. There were lots of local beers available (some on tap) and a good selection of wines by the glass. After finishing our drink, we were shown to out table. The overview of the menu was comprehensive, and the sommelier most helpful. The food arrived quickly, and was outstanding - a word of warning though, the helpings are large, so if you want dessert it'd be a god idea to avoid the appetizers.
We had reservations, but the restaurant was so packed we had to wait about 15 minutes to get our table. We had to speak up and tell a couple that we had reservations, because this couple told people behind us to sneak into the booth that they were vacating. Hostess was not there to tell them no. Food was very good. Noise level was pretty high, but we think that was due to the crowd in the restaurant before the concert that was nearby.
Food was absolutely amazing. My wife and I are foodies, and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food selections. Very very good, the Chilean sea bass was the best I have ever had. Highly recommend! Excellent !
We initially had to wait so long for the server to come to our table and take drink orders that I considered leaving. This was a Thursday night and the restaurant was not crowded. Waitress came over after another employee saw me looking around for help. Steaks were cooked as ordered. A couple other small complaints about the service I won’t belabor. Point is, if I am paying these prices, I expect excellent service and we did not get it.
Great time celebrating graduation with daughter. Huge portions.
The food was very good except for lamb chops which were tough. The service was very good as well although there was a long wait to get our food ordered. The quality of the meats was very good and the side dishes were delicious. And extra bonus was that you received the discount because we were there for a birthday. We were not expecting that. Love the ambiance.
Visited for an anniversary/birthday celebration. Service was spot on! Bryant did an amazing job making sure all of our needs and wants were met.
They had a party when I was there at 7 and I guess didn’t have enough help. The food was great but a two hour dinner because of the slow service.
The food was wonderful with excellent service! Loved the atmosphere. Great dining experience!
Very good food at a reasonable price. The service is very good as well. Recommended.
The food was generally pretty good, although very expensive overall. Our service was terrible. I don't think our waitress smiled once. Too bad, we were looking forward to the evening...
Once again a wonderful meal for my birthday. The staff was excellent, the food fantastic and the restaurant was all I could hope for. I highly recommend that you consider the Chop House for your special dinner events.
Excellent meal, excellent service made for a very enjoyable evening. This restaurant is a valuable asset for Charleston WV.
Always great food and service! We have been coming here for years and Chop House always delivers high quality food!
Unbelievable experience with magnificent food and service.
Outstanding food and service Bryant the best waiter I’ve had in my life of 64 years!
The restaurant is extremely nice. Service was excellent. The food is a little pricey. The steaks are great. I tried the pork chops for the first time. Not much flavor. Wouldn't try again.
Defitnely one of the top steak houses I've been too and top for WV. Would highly reccomend and price is about what you'd expect for an upscale chop house.
Service was excellent, wine list is great. Had calamari as appetizer and they had a good spice to it. I ordered the cowboy steak and it was over cooked. They took it off the bill though. Spinach was great. Mac & cheese needed some seasoning. Will definitely go again. Quality of the meat seems very high. It was just cooked too long
The Chophouse was not particularly busy, with many empty tables. Despite the lack of diners present at the time of our meal, service was exceptionally slow and far slower than it has been in my previous visits. Also, the bread usually served with the meal was nowhere to be found only a wheat-esque seed bread (gross) was available. The flavor of the Cowboy Steak, at a cost of $53.00, was relatively bland and certainly blander than had I gone to the store and purchased and seasoned a steak myself (which of course would have been less than half of the price of the Chophouse steak). Everything was good, but no better than that and you should get much better than good when a meal for two (with only 2 glasses of wine) is almost $200.00 without tip.
Great food, great service, I'd go back in a heartbeat! Every bit as good as the high end big city steakhouses, if not better. Expensive, but given the top notch experience, I couldn't complain. The GM was very appreciative of our compliments, and our server was friendly and helpful, but not intrusive.
Went for the birthday discount meal. Fillet was melt in your mouth delicious. Split the au gratin potatoes and sautéed mushrooms. Potatoes could have been a little softer and creamier but had excellent flavor. Mushrooms were great with the steak. The bread pudding was disappointing as it was over baked and dry. The flavor was good. Will try happy hour in the lounge next time.
Great food, service, ambiance, and overall atmosphere. Best steak I've had in a while. Overpriced. I've had dinner atop the highest skyscraper in Boston on a Saturday night for about the same. This is Charleston, WV and the restaurant is located in a mall. We would have gone elsewhere if their pricing was published.
We dine here a few times a month consistently. Although the dining rooms are lovely, we prefer the cozyness of a booth in the lounge. Some of our favs are the Moroccan Shrimp, the Filet of course is always prepared to perfection, the Dover Sole is melt in your mouth delish, Au Gratin potatoes large enough to feed an army, the rack of lamb, and the wedge salad sufficient for two people! I can't leave out that they grill up a mean Happy Hour burger too! Service is personable and on point and the valet parking appeals to those of us avoiding the Mall experience. This restaurant is one of our favs!
