About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Great for outdoor dining
  • Great for brunch
Welcome to The Chesapeake Room where our mission is simple… To bring our guest an organic, sustainable & free range dining experience while bringing to life the natural & fresh taste of each season. We have a passion for all that our beautiful Mid-Atlantic waters & farms have to offer & hope you will, too. Our fish and shellfish are local and fresh. Our meat, fowl and game are local and grown humanely. Our interior is hand crafted from the same wood that Les Paul guitars are made from! We have a great patio (enclosed and heated when it's cold) great for parties and alfresco dining. Our Brunch was rated among the best by the Washington Post and is a specialty. It all happens in our open kitchen with the Chef creating all our food from scratch. A historic restaurant in the middle of Barrack's Row. Thanks for coming!

Our reservations were at 5:00 pm and we had a party of 5. However, they ran out of the entrees we were interested in ordering. Therefore, we did not get an opportunity to order any of the seafood they are known for. I would not visit this restaurant again nor would I recommend it. Mirinda Jackson

We went in for some brunch. Unfortunately the service and food were very disappointing. I had the farmers breakfasts. 2 eggs, sausage, home fries, and toast. And I ordered the bottomless mimosa. Food & Service: There's nothing special about the meal. I thought it would be a somewhat hearty plate but was disappointed to see a big plate with less than a quarter of it full. I wish I was making this up, as I got no more than 1/4 of a cup of home fries. A sausage patty that was smaller than what you would get at McDonald's, and poached eggs that weren't poached... But hard boiled. I had to order an extra side of home fries. As for the bottomless mimosa. I only saw my server three times. The first, 20 minutes after we had been seated. The second, 15 minutes later as he brought back water. And lastly, when he took our order. We never got a check in, refill on waters, or asked if we wanted more drinks. So I spent $15 on "bottomless" mimosas and only ended up getting two (I had to ask another server for a mimosa). The duration of my experience here lasted nearly two hours. Most of which was waiting to be attended and waiting for the check. I tend to be lenient when it comes to dining experiences. One, because I'm in the food industry myself, and two because no restaurant should be judged off of one experience. I will say, I made a reservation ahead of time and the restaurant itself was not full. If I had not made those observations I wouldn't have written a review.

The gentleman who was in charge of seating people was extremely rude. We made a reservation via OpenTable, but when we arrived we were told that they were still "holding a wait" and that it would take 20 minutes or so to get a table. Granted we made our online reservation shortly before arriving, so I might be able to understand them needing some time to accommodate us, but the manner in which we were informed was really unprofessional. Rather than apologizing and being kind about it, the guy seating tables just gruffly informed us that we would have to wait. Later when he came to seat us, he continued to be rude and condescending. The meal itself was fine. I thought the pear salad was too salty and the bleu cheese was just in big globs, but the breakfast sandwich I ordered was tasty. Our server was fine too. Nothing special but adequate service. Just wish that we hadn't started out on the wrong foot with the guy who "greeted" us.

The service was great and everyone enjoyed their meal. We were seated in a booth so it was very private and although the restaurant was crowded, we were able to hear each other.

The special occasion was revisiting the Marine Corps Sunset Parade with my daughter and grand kids, a precursor To my grandsons graduation! As my husband was a marine and died of agent orange induced cancer at age 63, this was a tribute to him. I believe he would've LOVED The Chesapeake Riom!!! Thx!!!

Awful. Read about this as one of the top 10 brunch spots in DC. It took 60 minutes for our food to arrive. When it did, the garnish wasn't there on two dishes. The coffee was not hot. I asked for another hot cup- second cup not not either. The food was ok, but the experience was not!

When we arrived for our reservation, we waited a couple of minutes before a server greeted us. He said he was the only server working, and when we asked if he was expecting any help he said no! Seriously--one server for the bar and two rooms of tables? This was a Saturday night! We walked out. Appreciated his honesty.
