Excellent service and great food! Love to support education and get good value.
3 of us met for dinner at the Chef's House. Every dish had something "a little bit extra" in it. We were in Toronto to check off some eating experiences from my "If I lived in Toronto, I'd like to try that" list. This was the only venue where every course for all of us was a "winner".
The food was delicious and very creative. We were there for lunch and had a few items from the main menu as well as Daniel's - the chef of the week's creations which were absolutely perfect. We felt very special and well cared for. It is a nice, relaxed, fun atmosphere and everyone was very professional.
I will stop here every time I'm in Toronto now. We made the reservation because my daughter is considering applying to George Browns Culinary School and wanted to take a look and I made a note in the reservation of this. The manager , Owen, came to our table and spoke with my daughter and actually gave her a tour of the restaurant and the areas around it. She even got to meet one of the professors. She was in awe as was I. The fact that this man would take the time to show us around and she won't even be applying for a whole year was amazing and kind.
The food was great. Both my daughter and I swapped with each other so we could try everything. The server was very attentive and answered all of our questions and the I loved the look of the restaurant itself.
A great place with great food.
We had the tasting menu. Special occasion for me - my son was the chef for the day (week). The students and chef did a good job; I brought 9 colleagues and everyone enjoyed it. Tagliatelle wit smoky bacon were superb, so was the trout. Appetizers were very nice (trio of arrancini, a cannelloni, and a spinach / cheese fondue combo) - small bites but great flavour. Nice location, nice restaurant.
We had a family birthday party. First time we have been there. Enjoyed the experience. There was lots of help, but didn't seem to be anyone person in charge of the servers. Would suggest less wait between courses. Would certainly go again
The wait staff were very attentive. The bread was very yummy although a little sweet. The appetizers were very good. The main dishes had great flavour. My daughter had the trout and she said it was seasoned very well. I had the ruben which was very good although a little greasy. The desserts were also very good.
Exceptional service and wonderful food. Great experience overall. Would happily return.
Overall nice place and we enjoy the student interaction.
A very pleasant experience. Delightful food. Fabulous service and attention. Thank You!
Excellent food and service. The ambience was really nice and quiet
Fantastic food from developing chefs at an affordable price. At first we worried that the small serving sizes would leave us hungry, but we left fully sated. I would recommend skipping the wine list and instead going for the excellent cocktails. In particular, the Mexican Mule was a gem. For mains, I had the Cornish hen, while my husband had beef. Both dishes were rich and tender without a hint of dryness. We split a delicious chocolate walnut tart for dessert. We look forward to coming here again.
The lunch meal was delicious. My friends and I ordered the trout entree which was perfectly cooked and tasty. The service was very attentive and friendly. The restaurant layout provides for a cheerful atmosphere as the kitchen team can be seen preparing our meals. Enjoyed the whole experience!
We really enjoy the Chef’s Kitchen for special occasions - we’ve been there a few times. On our latest trip, I ordered the vegetarian risotto since it was offered in entree size and as it was the only veggie main. While the risotto would have been fine as a side, it was too cheesy and too rich to be a main and what’s worse, there was no attempt to offer a healthy vegetarian protein. It’s not enough for restaurants to offer a veg option these days, restaurants must ask the question, does the vegetarian option offer protein? Vegetarian proteins include beans, lentils, quinoa, hummus, nuts, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, soy beans/edamame, eggs, greek yoghurt, peas, peanut butter, tempeh, tofu, and many more. If you are not offering at least some of these protein rich and healthy foods in your vegetarian option, you are letting us down.
Great experience, most dishes were very well presented and tasty. Service was slow and some staff were new- assumed they are students learning. Would come back
Food was definitely a 4.5. But with a Wonderful experience for a Valentine's day and at a price that's comparable to a 5 star winterlicious menu. Place was not too packed. There were plenty of servers, though some seemed a little shy (not an issue). The food was exceptional. Even the bread was pretty good. The appetizers were great. The portion sizes were good. The black pepper sardines were great - I don't ever cook it and usually they have a fishy smell, but not here. It was done right and not over cooked. The Italian trio sampler (Anthony Ho's menu - I don't know the guy if your wondering.. his name was on the menu) was amazing. 3 different fish, 3 different textures and tastes. Worth getting the 4 course meal. Would never make the effort of cooking something like that.
For the mains... The souvide beef cheeks were tender and flavorful without being too salty or over empowering. The Cornish hen was crispy and the parings were well textured and original.
The dessert was good... But less impressive as the appetizers and the mains... 4/5 for the desserts.. the walnut chocolate tart was good.. no complaints there... But the tirimisu was ok. Couldn't taste the mascopone cheese (maybe the coffee was too empowering? Or not enough cheese?) And it was garnished with a crisp bread(?) Or sugar piece... Which should probably have been a bit thinner... Biteing into it was a little hard..
Overall: 4.5 but the service was good... So here it's a 5...
Price point... Just right for the restaurant. Good value. Certainly comparable to a 5 star restaurant.
Food was delicious and healthy, well presented, and the best !
Service staff was very attentive and courteous.
Thank you, George Brown College, for a great dining experience.
It's an inspiring place
Great experience. Fabulous Food and the staff couldn't do enough to make our experience great!
We had a great time and the atmosphere did not seem like it was associated to the school it felt like a stand alone restaurant on King street not a school at all. Very knowledgeable staff as well. I would definitely go back in a heartbeat. Try the beef cheek on the menu it’s to die for it’s so good.
outstanding fish and scottish eggs dishes, the cabbage was soso and desert could be improved
Food was excellent, but due to some issues in the kitchen, the service was slow.
We had a Friday dinner early in January to celebrate our anniversary.
The staff was very polite and helpful explaining the dishes and the vine cart.
The food was great, served in a timely manner and we enjoyed it very much.
Excellent value for your money.
The only thing that we didn't enjoy (it wasn't bad, but I can't say it was good) is the fact that the ambiance was a bit loud, as we expected more of a quiet atmosphere.
Firstly, the service was impeccable. Very impressed. The ambiance of the place is cozy and not too loud. Tastefully decorated and stylish dinnerware. Clearly the staff have received excellent training. The food was delicious, myself and my two colleagues had the 3 course lunch and each dish was a delight. Highly recommend it to others, in fact I have been already.
The presentation, food and service were excellent. The pierogi appetizer were amazing, just like my grandmother used to make. Three of us ordered the salmon entree and it was cooked to perfection. My husband loved his Reuben sandwich. The portion sizes of the appetizer, entree and dessert were not overly large but they were satisfying and reasonably priced. We would definitely recommend the Chefs’ House at George Brown College.
The food was creative and flavorful. One of the best meals we've had in the city this past year. Our server Wei was attentive and answered all our questions. We went for a birthday celebration, and the quality of service and food surpassed our expectations.
The chef's house was a great time and we hope to go back in the new year.
Amazing food but small portions. Wonderful service and a menu that changes three times a year.
Food was amazing as was the service. Very good value!
Food was all very good, and service was very attentive and not intrusive.
Was as good as any highly rated restaurant, I have been to many and to michelin star restaurants around the world and this was remarkable.
When we were leaving one of the staff preparing the salads was mixing the brussel sprout salad with his hands. We were absolutely horrified. I had the brussel sprout salad and felt sick. Please review the tape for Monday Dec. 11, 2017 @ 2PM. You will see the shock on our faces.
This is a wonderful spot for lunch. A great deal for a 3 course meal and they allow flexibility in which courses you order, so I had 2 appetizers instead of a dessert. Very nice ambiance and staff are excellent. You can also watch your food being prepared on an overhead screen.
Our office group had a great meal experience at Chef's House Restaurant, with distinctive and delicious lunch options.
The service reflects a higher level of a restaurant food event, yet the price is more moderate, so makes it accessible to most folks.
We're always glad to support the initiative of the traineeship that GBC offers chef students and service staff in an actual restaurant setting.
We enjoyed the ambience, the decor and the food. The presentation was outstanding and the combinations creative and delicious.
However, I feel that it is an expensive evening for a School Learning situation..
We always really enjoy our experience at the Chef’s House. The creativity and work out into each dish is remarkable. Obviously depending on your taste in food, some bits are more exceptional than others, but overall a great place for foodies!
This restaurant is so unique and so fun. The menu is always changing and it is consistently high quality for excellent value. We love to bring out of town guests here because it lends itself to great conversation. The students are incredible and it is an easy way to support their program through George Brown and get a great experience at the same time.
It was great to support the students at George Brown college. Overall the food and service was good. We had a 6:30 reservation and got in about 6:20 and we were served promptly. The dessert was to die for. The restaurant was tastefully decorated. The restrooms were clean.
Chef school restaurants can be very hit and miss, but The Chefs' House is definitely a hit.
Students of George Brown College's culinary school prepare your food in a very open kitchen (with bar seating available) as well as a large TV on the wall that gives patrons a bird's eye view of what the cooks are up to.
The service staff are also students at GBC's hospitality program, and are very attentive and professional.
$35 for a three course meal (you can do 2 appetizers and 1 main, 1 appetizer 1 main 1 dessert, or 1 main and 2 deserts) is a great value for the quality of the dishes you get. The affordability makes this place great for dates without breaking the bank.
The menu is changed weekly, which makes The Chefs House a restaurant you can keep coming back to again and again, and its a different experience every time.
My family really enjoyed the food and atmosphere at Chef's House. It was unusually busy so service was a tad slow.
The Chef's House is a fun place to have a special lunch with friends. The food combinations are creative, beautifully presented, and delicious. The service is excellent, attentive but not excessive.
