As always the food here was fabulous. The Pork Osso Bucco is my favorite. I was able to try my daughter's Skirt Steak and it was perfect! My wife had the Duck and it was great as well. Can't wait to go back.

This was our fourth time here. Food is always very good. Service was excellent. It is small and a little noisy. Find it better in the off season. The first time we went was during the summer. There were a lot of out of town people with small children.

Another very good meal! A bit crazy given New Year's Eve but staff for still on their game despite full house. Looking forward to our next meal.

The Chef and the Gardener was a very nice dinner for my girlfriend and I. We visited because we were interested in their catering menu, as we are getting married next summer. We were not disappointed. Our server was excellent, with a very good knowledge of the dishes, and wine and cocktails....even gave my girlfriend a sample taste of a cocktail she was interested in. The chef came out of the kitchen to chat with us briefly about our wedding plans which was very nice. Very nice menu for Saco Maine....it's tucked away on North St, but not to difficult to find. They have signs outside the driveway which leads to a back parking lot. We will go again for sure.

You will be hard-pressed to find a better dining experience in the area. The locally-sourced food is phenomenally prepared and the serving staff is personable, helpful and considerate. While I am an avid carnivore, I'm looking forward to bringing a vegan dinner guest in December as they have such a wonderfully vegan-friendly menu.

The Chef and The Gardener offered much more than our expectations! We were able to make last minute reservations and were rewarded with a nice quite dining experience close to home. The food was great and the service was commendable. We will be visiting more often and I'm certain it will become our "go to" place!

What a great surprise! We wish we had found this lovely place sooner! The minute we walked in we were greeted warmly. Our waiter Mike was friendly and knowledgeable. And the meals were so delicious! We had schnitzel and pork Oslo buco. You could tell the difference with fresh, local ingredients. We can't wait to go back!

We attended one of The Chef and The Gardener's seasonal wine dinners recently. The menu was a set prix fixe with several choices for each course with wines selected for each choice. We thought that the price of the meal was very reasonable and, as usual, the food was excellent. Our waitresses were very knowledgeable about both the preparation of the food and the wines selected. This small restaurant has been our "go to" restaurant for several years and we are never disappointed.

We eat out a fair amount in the greater Portland area & try a lot of the highly hip & recommended places. The family agrees this was one of the best meals across the menu & from salad to dessert . Service was professional - attentive & timely - while appearing to be effortless. The Osso-Bocco was the consensus best dish and that saying something as it beat the perfectly cooked schnitzel & the delicious short ribs. The app was crispy pork belly with chorizo grits & cider cabbage and together they were excellent.

For a family get-together, with one couple vegan, the other (towing a four-month old) vegetarian, we thought finding a place to accommodate us would be impossible. However, finding Chef and Gardener was a perfect solution. The dining room, though small, welcomed all of us. The food, which made everyone happy, was excellent. Although some of our party was fairly late, we were made to feel welcome. I'd go there again in a second!!

This small, cozy restaurant has a wonderful, private, undiscovered feel. The menu choices are varied and absolutely delicious. The service is a perfect mix of friendly, personal and professional. Watching the salad being composed tableside -- what a fun addition! I have been here several times and always look forward to my return.

Food was fantastic, service was solid (Mike), wine was very reasonable. We had a table of 10 and Michael kept everyone serviced and happy throughout the night. Everyone at the table was raving about their food, especially the pork osso bucco. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anybody.

We have eaten here many times over the years but on this visit Chef and Gardner was very mediocre. The service not to warm or welcoming!
A strange combination of potato as the starch and turnip as the veg was blah to say the least.
We will try it once more before we cross it off our list. We hope it returns to former levels.

Quite a pleasant surprise given the location a bit out of town. Some of the best food we've had in some time, certainly for the area. Being from San Francisc, we're blessed with many restaurant choices and the quality of the food preparation was right up there with some of our favorites. My wife, who is Celiac, had a wonderful experience with the Risotto and Occo Busso dish. Quite surprised to find a respectable wine list that had most everything available by the glass. Highly recommended for the quality of the food and celiac-friendliness.

Enjoyed a good meal but service was a bit slow as there was only one person for the entire dining room - bar and food.
